Are you taking Biden’s promises seriously? Politicians only try to fulfill their promises when they have a re-election coming up. Biden is too old for re-election so he’s basically free to do whatever he likes.

Yes. Live other languages and cultures alone. They are not yours, mister Erdoğan, and you don't get to decide how things are called in them. I find the whole idea somewhat childish. It's like the Germans would demand that their country should be called Deutschland in English - or perhaps Doitchland or something. I don't think there's anything wrong with "Turkey" anyway. It's a nice name, and I have never heard any adult person connecting the country and the bird to each other. Actually, in my language the name of Turkey is spelled "Turkki", which also means fur or a fur coat, but here too nobody connects those two meanings.

Other languages are spoken as closely as possible to the correct one. English is a universal language and must be used correctly. Turkiye means the place where Turks live and the correct one should be used. Just do it, why do you feel the need to argue so much?

      - "English is a universal language..."
No, it's not. It's a widely used language.
      - "...and must be used correctly."
As an authoritarian Recep Erdoğan gets to dictate many things in his own country, but he doesn’t have the authority to dictate how English is used in other countries. He just has to accept the fact that people in other countries use a different name of his country than he does.

Not today, but in the future, they will say that you are ignorant who does not know the correct name of a country in a universal language;) If English is not universal, tell your troubles in your own language or in Spanish. As a linguist, I really hate this trend for countries to attempt to change the name that they are known by in English for international communications.
The latest round of this started with Ivory Coast, and we've seen it with Swaziland, the Czech Republic and others, these becoming officially Côte d'Ivoire, Eswatini, Czechia respectively. In most cases, this is trying to impose the endonym in place of an exonym, ignoring that the existence and use of exonyms is a completely normal part of every language, including English. So, if they want me to call Turkey 'Türkiye', should I also be going on holiday to Hrvatska with my friend from Suomi? Do I also have to use 'Türkiye' when speaking in French or Spanish? Are Turks going to have to refer to my country as 'Scotland' instead of 'Iscoçya', even when speaking in their own language? Of course not, because place names are part of language and are different in different languages and you don't get to dictate how others refer to you.
To be clear, I am completely in favour of decolonisation of language including place names and would never advocate referring to, for example, Zimbabwe as 'Rhodesia' or DRC as 'Zaire'. These are fundamentally different names with separate etymologies, and not just the same names in different languages.

Gollrur) needed a distraction from the disaster his policies are visiting on the country he rules with an iron fist: The most important issue of all issues is the fact that the modern name for Türkiye in English is Turkey - which happens to be the English name for the large chicken species Meleagris that e.g. Nordic nations call "Kalkun".
To my knowledge, the people of Turkey/Türkiye/Tyrkland or whatever people call this particular nation do not really care - the only Turk that seems the have his knickers in a twist is Dictator Erdogan - but, then again, he is in dire need of something, ANYTHING that will distract his countrymen from the fact that his economic and religious policies are ruining Turkey/Türkiye/Tyrkland.
Erdogan is becoming openly ridiculous! In my country (Iceland), Turkey/Türkiye has always been called "Tyrkland", and the old Norse name for Istanbul has always been "Mikligarður" (lit. Great Garden). Is juvenile Erdogan about to throw a tantrum over local naming conventions for his ancient country, one of the cradles of civilization? Methinks you Turks (NOT Turkeys!) need to start thinking about electing a more rational leader...
The funny thing: Turkey (Türkiye) as a nation has been doing fine - it is mostly on the ridiculous Erdogan political and economic front that the country has been floundering.

Nope, other countries have no right to tell the English world how to pronounce stuff in English. They decide how to pronounce stuff in their own language. When you are speaking in English, you use English pronunciation.
Many languages have sounds which don't even exist in English and native English speakers can't pronounce.

@@giorgismaximos8662 LOL it's so obvious that you don't know anything about history. I can give many examples that a state is a continuation of the previous state. When the Ottoman Empire collapsed, the states that declared their independence paid ottomans debts. This includes Bulgaria and Greece. In a way, Greece is considered the continuation of the Ottoman state. In addition, when the republic was established, the Ottoman sultanate and caliphate were abolished, which shows that the state was not a continuation.

      - "It’s good to know that Turks can speak their mind freely on camera."
Yes, but how long can they do that? It seems to be typical for aspiring authoritarians to tighten their grip little by little. The Turkish media is already tightly controlled, and demonstrations against the government are in practice criminalized. It won't probably take long before private citizens will be punished for speaking their mind. Surprisingly the election system in Turkey still seems to work somewhat reliably (unless I'm mistaken).
