- My first marathon in NYC. Fantastic experience with the most enthusiastic crowds I have seen.
Fantastic supporters, volunteers, organisers, ... I could go on.
Only quiet spot was around 17 km through the Hasidic neighbourhood, but even they were out to watch. ** Please note that unfortunately my battery went flat at the very end!
I had extra batteries, but clearly not enough 🙄🤦
I know this video is a few years old, but THANK YOU for posting this! I’m in the process of half marathon training, with running the Chicago Marathon this coming fall, and had to use the treadmill today. It was so nice to pretend that I was running “with” you and see and hear all the fantastic crowd support you had in the race. Granted, I only a bit over 8 miles, but this made my run that much better. :)
Bru the max I can do is 4 in 30 minutes 💀
Great video!! I saw my wife and I, you ran past our apt right after the bridge! We were out there cheering you all on! I am getting ready for the 2018 Half. =) Keep running!
Maybe it's better YOU run Away but i like you 🧐🤨😉
Nick, not sure if you're still reading this, but this long-time runner (40+ years) and former NYC resident, really appreciates you posting this! Ran NYC Marathon 3 times and there were still parts fo the course I "blanked out" on as I struggled on race day. I'm now trying to return to running after back surgery (that may be career ending, jury is still out), and walking for over an hour on the treadmill, remembering what it was like to run this race. Wish the battery hadn't died! Would love to have see the ending. Anyway, thanks again for posting, keeping my motivation up to one day, maybe, go back there.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I was just thinking about how disappointing it was not to have end crowd etc. 😔
I have just sold the camera I used, so that part is over for me.
I had a major injury to my back just after that run, and have not really been able to do much running since 😔😔
Good luck with your recovery and keep going 💪 🏃♂️
Thanks so much for posting this. I ran NYC in 2016 (though slower than you do I didn't see myself!) so it was great to re-run it with you. My figurative batteries were running out by Central Park too! Thanks again, really appreciated it!
people running with headphones are missing out on one of the best experiences ever!!
They don't always have anything on, more to hear their stats / pace etc.
Me encanta el video . Me sentí parte de la maratón al ver la gente y los lugares tan cerca , además mostrar el mapa y el pace en la pantalla es una buena idea . Saludos desde Perú .
Perfect video for visualization. Makes me feel much more prepared for Sunday! Thank you!
Good Luck Nick Rupert
Today I ran with this video and it was amazing to remember my first NYC marathon last year!!. Thanks for this video!!. I really enjoy it!!
I have similar videos on my channel! Check them out!
Thank you so much for posting this, Nick! Also, congratulations on your 2016 race! I watched this video over and over again, in preparation for the TCS NYC marathon 2017 (often while foam rolling/stretching), and it really helped me to simulate and visualize the race, almost corner by corner. Though it was my very first NYC marathon, I felt like I've already run this race in the past, even knowing exactly where some of the local musical bands would show up! Many thanks to your effort to capture every second of the race. Cheers!
kind of spoiled the experience ay
I ran that year - totally amazing experience - the route, crowds and finish will stay with me forever -thank you
Great point of view
Very cool video! I'm 5'4" so it was nice to have your perspective! 😄 I'm not Australian, but it was great to hear all the Aussie cheers, and to hear them call your name was encouraging, even to me. I felt like I ran it with you, for sure!
Congratulations and thank you so much for posting this! I can watch it while on the treadmill on days when I can’t go outside.
Thank you for posting this. I ran NYC in 2015 and 2016. Without question, one of the best experiences of my life - all for the reasons you listed.
Thank you Nick!! Great Racing!! These quarentene period is nice with this kind of video and my treadmill...thankyou from Argentina
Thanks from Spain running in home for covid19
Wow!!! It is so cool to relive these sites and hear the crowds through your video. Thanks for posting!
Brian Gardner: Battery went flat 🙁
This is fantastic! I feel like I'm right there :) Thank you!
Awesome footage. Great Job. I can't wait until I get to run the NY marathon! 🏃🏽👍🏽💯
Great job Nick. I am running the NY marathon in 2 1/2 weeks, just about to head off on my last long training run and needed some inspiration. I will be watching parts of this over and over again in the next 2 1/2 weeks! Thank you
Congratulations Nick, good on ya mate. I ran back in 2005 and is still my favorite marathon I've ever run. Nice time too on a tough course. I think my favorite memory of any race is still coming off that Queensboro Bridge and taking the dog leg into the noise of 1st Avenue.
I put this on the television in front of my treadmill and tried to run with it. Every time you turned your head or looked down I would almost fall or get dizzy. I had to quit. It's a great idea, but I wish you had kept your head looking straight ahead.
Thanks John, you try running 42km and keeping your head still 🙄
thank you, i saw myself in your video, it brought all the great memory back. thanks.
who were u in the video?
Watching in 2019, as I prepare to run this for the first time! Thank you for the video!
Good luck Peanut ButterJam !
what a great video! I can't miss a second!
Thanks for posting Nick, great footage. I'm lining up for the 2017 NYCM. cant wait. pretty funny the guy who threw the water cup at you looks like about 1.15 in.
Thanks for the video. I finished the race in four sessions on the treadmill. I was expecting the finish. But was disappointed that it did not come.
Yeah, I was disappointed the battery ran out also, too much use at the start🙄!
Same. Ran this in several sessions and thoroughly enjoyed the video until the end. The finish line kept me going, so it was a bit of a letdown when it wasn't there. Nick, wish you consider either noting the absence of a finish line in the description, or even putting some still photos at the end. I just wanted to see it!
love this run been practicing using this video to run and run more miles every week so maybe one day when all this pandemic gives up hopefully pray to run this marathon someday, even if it takes me more than 3.5hrs to run. great job on the run and videos.
Thanks so much for sharing this video, Nick! My son is about to run in the NYC Marathon this Sunday, 11/07/21, and this gives me a wonderful idea of what the experience is like!
I wish him luck… it’s a great experience, and even more so this year!
Thank you so much for this experience :D Even if the finish is missing it is fantastic to run the crowded streets on treadmill. However, I would never have come this far in that time, so I did it in parts and it is very realistic for me not to see the finish :DD. Your video helped me to get a lot of positive energy!
Awesome atmosphere. ... brilliant 💪 👍
Good footage. This is what I wanna do next year. I ran a half marathon this weekend. Was fun. 🌟👍
Great Videos!
Very informative, information including showing beat-per-min, elevation, course map, speed in terms of min/km, the actual route totally simultaneously. In addition to the above valuable information, we can clearly the sound of breath taking, and so we can feel the difficulty of the race.
@Run Barefoot 1:50:12 Is that you?
Great video Nick, I use on my treadmill all the time
Excellent run; loved the video great job in doing the race.
Awesome video!
Well done Nick, great run and video. Are you able to share your training routine in the months leading up to the race. Cheers M
God, I can feel the adrenaline rush in the anticipation in the beginning
My Escape!
Thank You.
Great Video., thanks !I am going next week to New York for The Marathon ! The Video is a good mental Training to get familiar with the course. Like you I will start in the 1st wave and aim to run around 3:30.
I hope i will not "hit the wall" to dramatically after 35K. The video shows this phenomenon dramatically. A sudden loss of pace with a rise of heartrate and huge muscular fatigue. I know this, the NYCM will be my 7th Marathon.
I hope you made it for the last 5K and reached the finishline in good shape.
Dan Wood Good Luck with the run, you’ll love it. I finished OK just under 3:30. I’m sure you’ll be fine
Great video, I agree with your comments, it was an incredible experience. It's just a shame your battery ran out!
Yes, the last part was the best with crowds inside Central Park. The battery pack worked for 4 hours at Great Ocean Road, but may have lost some capacity. I thought it was fully charged. I am looking for a higher mAh internal battery.
you can alawys cary an extra... loved your thoughtful sharing. Thank you.
Thanks for this...I'm on the treadmill pretending! :)
Hi Nick - could you post a photo of what you were wearing on the day ? I’m so curious how the crowd identified you as an Aussie so happily!!
what app did you use? the map and speed are video editing or running app?
Thanks for sharing this video! I was practically at my limit running on the treadmill when a runner appears without wearing a tennis shoe! (1:50:48) I thought "are you still going to quit?" Dude this was awesome! Made me continue to the goal! Thank you very much!
Elton Rodrigo I never noticed that! Great effort by him. Good luck to you!
My first thoughts were how tall you are. I've never been able to see all the tops of those peoples heads like you can, congrats.
Top of the heads that’s funny AF!
Thanks for posting! I ran NYC in 2019, much slower than you 🤣 Now training (on the treadmill, ugh) for Chicago 2020 (call me an optimist...). This was very motivational!
GREAT JOB.......man
New York City have the best Marathon in the world
Thanks Nick for this great video. Congratulations on your first NYC Marathon. What type of camera did you use that gives this information on the screen? I want to buy exactly what you have, I like the interface.
Awesome video
One day (hope very soon) I will see all this things _"in loco"_
Great video! How was the final time and how did you get the ad for pace and the other data into the video? Thanks Tibor
Cool upload!
Great video
Great job THANKS for sharing! Hoping to land a spot in the 2017 NYC Marathon via the lottery
Love the video! It felt like I was running myself :) NYC marathon is on my bucket list.
Question, how did u manage to add the pace, km data realtime on the video?
I used the Garmin editing tool to match the watch output and video, described a little further down in comments
Hey man, great job!
I've been watching a few videos on the course etc, I am running it this year.
Too bad you can't see the finish, did the camera just die after those 3 hours?
Also, tell me about those hills...
I can see how the first bridge can be quite tricky, almost a mile / 1.5k uphill f2f from the start, but how did you tell on the Queensboro bridge and then right towards the end, on Fifth Avenue?
I've done NYC twice. My advice for Queenboro would be to just maintain your effort. Hopefully you'll still feel "good" at that poitn. You're going to slow down up the bridge, but no need to push at that point as you have 10+ miles to go. Use the downhill, but no need to press. The rush you'll get coming off the bridge onto 1st Ave with the crowds yelling like crazy is like nothing you'll ever experience. (Pump your arms and watch how they react!) Embrace it, but don't push too hard despite being pumped! :D The bridge into the Bronx is the hardest one, in my opinion. It's steep and fairly long...but you're only 10k from the finish at that point. Best of luck in 13 days. See you out there on the course!
hey there what gear and mount did you use for it?
Great video. U ran fast. I wished the battery lasted until the finish line.
Amazing video, I've enjoyed It, i wanna make something like that in the 2018 CDMX Maraton, is It a Garmin?
Interesting how he managed to put speedmeter/elevation?
This helped a lot. Cant wait for Sunday! Thank You. What was your final time/pace?
Good luck on Sunday, it’s a great experience. My battery went flat for the last 20 minutes (which missed me taking a short break once I got to Central Park 🙄)… I was pretty happy with 3:29 given a major calf strain 3 weeks out, and I was the second Australian 50-59
Nick McCaffrey ....big video, did you have a gimbal ??
also curious to know. sure looks like it. but then, that'd be heavy...?
Hey great glasses. What kind of one is it and where can you buy it?
Camera mounted on cap with extra battery
Boss what total km covered by you?
Hello..what is your camera ?
I am going to do London marathon next year and after that I love to do New York marathon
DAAAANGG - what happened to the ending? I loved this video but was so looking forward to getting to the finish line - how close were we to the very end? The little arrow was almost there
See comments and answers below, but I spent too much time videoing the starting area and the battery went flat for the last 20 minutes.
Everyone is disappointed, including me!!
@@nickmccaffrey4168 It figures, right? And I still absolutely loved the run and your video of it - and, congratulations to you for that run! Excellent job!
Hi Nick, how did you get those stats up on the video while recording? I would like speed, bpm, miles ran etc at all times like you do if that makes sense. Cheers!
That's cool! May I know how many GB of storage you used for the whole clip in the camera?
It was about 9 Gb. The camera automatically breaks it up into 4Gb files that I can just stitch together. A 3:40 marathon (45km GOR) was 10 Gb for the whole thing.
Ei Nick, why are you not uploading marathon pov videos anymore? Your videos are my go to vids when jogging indoors.
NeverStop LookingUP Sorry Mate, I broke my back in a nasty fall 2 years ago and couldn’t run for more than 12 months.
Taking it really slowly now, so no videos for a little while yet! 😔
@@nickmccaffrey4168 God bless you and hoping for a fast recovery. Your videos were part of how I started to enjoy running 😊
Where's the finish line?
How the hell did that big guy in black (around halfway) run barefoot!!
Nice sad though for me as this was day my mother died Sunday November 6th 2016.
Thanks for video! How u placed the HR and pace monitor in video? What You used for it?
I synced the Sony video with Garmin data using the Garmin VIRB app
I hope the world gets back to the place where runners can run together coronavirus 2020
What were you using to get the analytics?
Doing this in 30-minute laps. I feel like I'm in Quantum Leap :)
How did you overlay the performance data in the video? what did you use to capture that data?
Graham Goetz the data is from my Garmin Fenix 3. I use the desktop version of Garmin Virb to merge the watch data metrics with the Sony video.
Very cool. Thanks and congrats!
Nick......were you wearing a HRM strap or was it watch based...HR seemed very erratic?? Great vid! 👍 can't believe the speed of the guy race walking!!
Used the Tri Strap, but my HR is naturally high, and usually 160-170 for marathons.
It can slip a bit with sweat etc, which can make it jumpy.
The wrist based monitor on the Fenix 3 is no good for marathons.
@@nickmccaffrey4168 I did notice it only seemed to jump when good looking female runners passed!! :) I noticed you used a pacing band around your wrist, Great idea...I was worried about using GPS and accuracy....I only have a Forerunner 45S so not sure how it would perform. Those bridges at the start and at mile 15 :(
In NY you can’t rely on GPS as the buildings really stuff up accuracy.
I used my average pace, 30 second average, and Mile Markers to understand pace and keep myself in control.
Just take it easy at your comfortable pace and see how you feel after 30 kms 🤞
haha that guy in the red top at 49:49 is race-walking as fast as people running.
What type of glasses are these and where did you get them????
danny rainwater This is shot with a Sony HDR-AZ1 mounted to my cap with a 2700mAh mophie external battery.
D+....tks 🇧🇷
Hi friend, what equipment do you use to maintain image stability? The machine is gopro?
Camera is Sony and has in built stabilisation, even though it was on my cap!!
Are you ready?
1:51:50 is a guy running in his bare feet!!!
That's crazy
Who needs shoes when your calluses are hard as rocks.
There he is again 2:22:26
you ever think that when we see a heard of ducks or a flock of birds running/flying together they are having a marathon?
And i'm comfy sitting in my bed :)
See the runners going pass 4412😊
very wel done
Nice little nugget at 1:41.... BAREFOOT bald guy in black lol. Thanks for this! I`m doing this race in several sessions at 35 mins each. I will eventually get to the finish line lol
Jepkosgei upset the four-time New York City Marathon champion to win the women's race, a historic debut that left her seven seconds off the course record. Geoffrey Kamworor of Kenya won the men's event for the second time in three years.
www.dianjinwa.cn/video/53473.html
Oh no... we didn`t see you cross the finish line :(
hi i did you shoot it?
giuseppe ferro. The profile pic shows the Sony HDR-AZ1 mounted on my cap. I used an external 2700mAh mophie battery mounted with velcro.
Hi...nice! and did you stabilize in post?
camera has stabilization, no changes needed! great camera. only problem is the size means the battery is small, so only has about 30 minutes video with WiFi off.
I can't even run the mile hardly
Damn
Not enough Energy? Okay not Finish put down that Whepon 🙄 😎👋
I finished... but the battery went flat 🙄🤷♂️🤦
Meanwhile I’m here eating potato chips
SBRC at 1:17:00 of video
Forgive me for being a tad slow, but what does SBRC stand for?
The man did not wear a pair of shoes. Time in 1:41:29
