I've just noticed this video so clearly shows my care for CT now but I absolutely agree. I dont blame these 2 lads they've done absolutely nothing wrong! You can tell the videos are restricted to what the business suited men think CT should be. It was clear even when it was still jack, ethan and edwin that it was being restricted then got even worse once they left

A fair and honest chat, that SHOULD have come long before jumping straight into new content. It is clear that Car Throttle has gone through different phases, but throughout that time, the fan base remained loyal. Jumping straight into new content with new faces, probably switched much of the older fan base off. It has been referenced by Alex Kersten how much things changed as Car Throttle was taken over by large media companies, and how they felt they had less control over the content that was being made. But that content that was being made by Alex et all, was what kept us coming back to watch. The high end of the car market is a pipe dream to the average bloke, but seeing Alex et all passionate about shit boxes and how much fun you can still have with a shit car, was a real niche in the UA-cam world that had a HUGE draw. Just because you have a title and a big pay packet, does not mean you know what you are doing with a motoring UA-cam channel that has built up such a big audience. You both seem to have a base level of knowledge of cars and an interest in them, but I do not feel that this new direction of Car Throttle is going to be for me.
Should have started a new channel and brand. Car throttle had a core fan base. We liked seeing shit cars and good mates. No hate to the staff, fuck the owners. Disappointing.

Would have made no sense starting from scratch. Media company buys Car Throttle for I assume a decent chunk of money so they have the existing channel and name, which is recognised. Why would they start from zero and the slow process to viewers/subscribers. And with new people so would be harder. Its been easier for Ethan and Jack to get subscribers as they were known.

They’ve bled a lot of brand equity because the brand was only publicly represented by a few personalities. And the company never ventured to leverage the channel to grow other media assets that could function as an MCN that could support each channel and strengthen its algo ranking over time. Worse is that it is a brand that exists only on UA-cam in all practicality. Which means that it is beholden to the algorithm which is very fickle. If viewership has fallen drastically… the algorithm is quite possibly going to turn off its discovery and recommendation rankings. Channels can evolve, but not like this. At least successfully. Despite having millions of subs, if only a small portion continue to view content, that channel is not valuable and has an uphill battle against an algorithm that has left the channel for dead. Taking their media creation in a new direction is not a bad idea, but leveraging CT at this point might not be doing them any favours. While I don’t think the name is problematic (no inherent benefit in renaming the channel), changing the on screen talent and the type of content risks a subscriber base disengaging from new and future uploads. Which is one of the fastest ways to create negative growth for a channel. As counter intuitive as starting a new channel might be, in the land of UA-cam it might be the only way to achieve digital growth/reach as they move in a new direction. I don’t want to come across as negative. These are realistic comments based on my observations. I hope those involved are able to pivot it into something successful.

You could spend a lot less money and have much more success just hiring the host and starting a new channel. Most people are not making millions, it's just like a regular job for them if they work for a company. It’s what makes it hard to have a brand such as Car Throttle, because it becomes something to viewers, but what it is is the people behind it. If those people change, then so does Car Throttle, regardless of if the viewers want it. It’s easier to just follow individuals and personalities.
A tech company can slap its brand on a shit product and still sell tons of it because marketing works. But a youtube video is both the product and the marketing, change the winning formula to something else and risk losing everything.
The comments at around 2:57 about the resto-builds being complicated and time consuming to film are just wet; for the extra effort of filming it gleaned so many more views, because that’s what people people wanted to see, not to mention the old presenters. Cost is also a rubbish excuse, because the cars were really cheap, and so would the parts have been, especially when weighed against the views they brought in. It’s such a shame for the new lads/presenters - this new content is like using a plug to stop the titanic sinking
They also got Deals to help them out VAG Technique, BC Coilovers Sponsorship Money. Some of what these two said was what they wanted some of it was Comerical shit to avoid getting the new owners angry.
What sold me on Alex, Jack, and Ethan’s CT era was how relatable the content was. Buying a shitbox for dirt cheap using the websites everyone uses to buy them? Buying on a budget for your first car? Road trip in these cheap performance cars? It was actually more refreshing than a normal review of a rare car. And the effort and lengths they went to make those simple videos really reflected how genuine it felt. If the content is refreshing and genuine, your personalities will feed off of it and the audience will grow. A car review about what it’s like to drive the M1 or Z1 spiritedly? Meh honestly. What it’s like to drive an M1 or Z1 as a daily driver getting coffee and doing a grocery haul in it? Time attack a normal ass car with no mods? Idk it’s more relatable to a general audience and I’d probably watch it before I’d watch any of those other videos.
I like you guys, but the issue you have is that you think people don't want to see the content that they've been watching for ages. Content that has been popular and is associated with this brand. You cant really expect to completely change the format and have people be onboard. That's not to say there isn't a market for the new stuff, and personally I'm still watching, but its understandable that the old fans would leave.
This channel hasn't been same since the first owner sold it. The 1 car 2 guys series etc were absolutely brilliant. The one where ethan scratches Alex's car and he 'hears ' it whilst sleeping was amazing. Brilliant cinematography and just sharp wit and sketches. So funny😂
42 year old white bloke here. I religiously follow, auto alex, junkyard digs, vice grip garage, TDC and legit street cars. I love cheap old nasty cars being brought back to life and challenges off the back of that. Car throttle used to provide that content. Its nothing personal against car throttle, i just think the content people came here for doesn't exist now.
Vice Grip Garage was really good but now kinda sucks. He's fallen off a bit. But still like the OG channels. CT isn't good anymore but I do appreciate this video

1:46 Are you kidding me? The Car Throttle community platform was brilliant. I was there, it lasted for a few years, I experienced it's uprising and downfall. It didn't work out because management quickly realised it didn't bring any profit so they decided to slowly kill it off.
I personally don't like the track stuff/strange cars things, much rather the buying cars or building cars. Cheap car challenges and all that is much more fun. If I wanted to watch reviews id watch doug demuro tbh. Will stick around to see how yee guys get on👍🏻

The old ct style content is still being made on auto alex and his friends channels and they upload so often now it's even better than when they were still at ct. Why don't they just go and watch their new channels instead if they hate the new ct so much? No one is forcing the haters to watch the new ct, they clearly just have too much time on their hands and live miserable lives. Also, juding by some of these comments its clear that a lot of these people don't have the mental capacity to understand what the presenters were explaining in this video.
Whenever I come back to Car Throttle I am annoyed at the number of hate comments. If you really hate the new direction that much, stop watching! Now Ethan, Jack, Edwin and Alex have all got their own channels where they control the direction nothing has really been lost! We've just gained more car content, and isn't that a good thing? These new faces on camera is not Car Throttle. they are just placed there by the same incompetent management that has been hurting this channel for years. The company has repeatedly made mistakes, driving away their presenters. If that's something you want to support, go ahead. but don't think for a second we will stop criticizing them. They need to know that companies cant treat their audience like this and get away with it.
Car throttle was my favorite UA-cam channel to watch. I even used the app a lot then after some time the app stopped getting support. and well Alex left so did all other hosts it’s like the same with top gear. the old presenters can’t be replaced. Maybe with some more humor in the videos. and not so serious would Help.
As others have said, this is like Top Gear all over again. It doesn't matter that they went to a new show called the Grand Tour. What mattered is we could still watch them and the chemistry they have. Not having a dig at CT here at all, its just the facts. It'll be very hard to revive this channel now.
This video really says it all in my opinion, the new people that now own Car Throttle STILL don’t seem to get that irrespective of how many channels there are out there doing the same old thing… It’s the same old thing that we all love! I’m subscribed to countless channels from all over the world that are effectively doing ‘the same old thing’ restoring and repairing old shit boxes 👌🏼 It’s what I came to CT for years ago, but now that’s all gone what’s there to stay for?

my complete guess on how this stuff works is that youtube and cheap cameras completely democratises this stuff. there's absolutely no reason why the driving force behind the content production should not own it themselves. they are what makes it happen so why should they not do it themselves. no room left for corporate owners to make their cut too. any channel like this will lose their best people.

Written this before, ill write it again. Nothing against the new presenters, but CT is dead! CT has become Blockbusters. You had your peak and now there's no need for you. Management, well done for fucking up a good thing 👍🏽
The channel went into a little decline when Alex left, but Ethan and Jack did you proud and kept the channel going nicely, but the channel crashed when they left. Edwins departure probably made little difference, but he was wise to leave the sinking ship and seems to be doing well. This video is a last gasp effort to try and revive the channel, but the reality is that the channel is over, 3 million subscribers and only pulling 20k views for a video certainly tells the story.
No doubt that Alex and Matt love cars and want to make it a success, and I want to give them a chance. But it's such a typical tale of corporate behaviour - new investors acquire something, quickly decide that it's not sustainable or viable, force significant changes, and then harm the value of their own investment. Maybe Car Throttle will survive and thrive, but if it doesn't, it all comes down to owners buying something and then concluding it isn't a viable business model, which raises the question of why they bought it in the first place.
The views dropped off like crazy and the most clicked video on this channel for weeks is an explanation. Idk but this channel is done for me, I really tried but it just hasn‘t any chemistry really. AutoAlex, All The Gear and Top Dead Center are the new old home now.

Do unconventional fun things with the vehicles and the channel will blossom. Car journaling is so saturated with this new supercar that new supercar, let's take it around the track and that's it. All the same formula making it less fun. The video of the minivan, van and pick up was very fun and unique. Looking forward to more of that type of content

As most of you already know this. With Car Throttle having over 3M subscribers and this video so far only having 108K views. Most of us have lost interest in these videos. In my opinion the true owners of this channel needs to tell us that they messed up but they won't and its a shame since I was really interested in this channel. To say fairwell. From today I have unsubscribed from this channel and to say good luck for the future but I bet in a year time the owners will pull the plug.

the reason why alex + ethan and the original top gear trio worked well together is the vary chaotic mix of personality that shoulsnt work well togeter but does. ethan was the pug driver who wouldn't even know where the bonnet release lever is on his car he owned for 5 years. alex is the guy who would spend 8 hours every saturday working on his car. james may, mat hammond, jeremy clarkson all had very different attitudes to motoring, completely different, they were chaos together and was entertaining. you two seem to just agree with each other and on the same wavelength. this works well for a factual car show. but its not entertaining.

I think the view counters speak for themselves. Several hundred thousands on video's with Alex/Ethan/Jack, down to a couple tens of thousands after they left. Top Gear syndrome is real. The owners have no shame, honour or respect for the product they are pushing. Should be them in front of the camera for this video and not the new casters.

Car Throttle has been a huge part of my life, I’ve been watching the videos ever since 2012, was a very active member on the CT website/forum, and now I’ve even done several cheap car challenges and roadtrips with my mates inspired by you and Top Gear. Sure, it‘s a shame that the forum no longer exists, that the UA-cam channel has taken such a rough hit and that so much has been going on behind the scenes - but in the end, we’ve now got three amazing new channels with AutoAlex, Top Dead Center and All the Gear, and I‘m sure that you two can bring this legendary channel back to life as well, even if it might take some time. These comment sections have become literal battlefields - don’t let that discourage you, keep going! PS: I didn’t even realize this was Matt Robinson… A familiar name from the old forum days!
I think we all know this should have been the first video from these guys, moving past that though. It's fairly obvious that it's a little from column A and a little from column B. It's clear the budget has been slashed and I hope your intent is to do something new, if not for the fact that that just doesn't work, if Top Gear can't do it... Probably the best thing to do is get one or both of you out of your comfort zones, that usually produces the best content and has worked for a lot of people. Think about the time Ethan was made to service the Jazz, such basic content for a petrol head and it worked every time because he struggled to do it, we can empathise with that. I've tuned in and out, so what I've seen may not be the whole picture. I've not really seen much chemistry between you two, I'm not trying to be mean here... you either do or you don't. I'll keep tuning in and out for a while and I hope you manage to find your stride and keep/grow the audience. Try not to listen to the trolls too much or sniff your own farts if/when things pick up. You'll have to try things to see what people like ultimately, I hope you enjoy the ride either way. Good luck!

I started watching Car throttle in 2016 when i was 11. I am from a 3rd world country and not UK, the cheap car content made it relatable to be, because cheap cars for you guys are just regular cars here

As counter intuitive as starting a new channel might be, in the land of UA-cam it might be the only way to achieve digital growth/reach as they move in a new direction.

You could spend a lot less money and have much more success just hiring the host and starting a new channel. Most people are not making millions, it's just like a regular job for them if they work for a company. Starting a fresh channel on your own could mean $0 or close to $0 of income for months or years, so many UA-camrs would gladly work for a company if they're guaranteed a stable income.

A tech company can slap its brand on a shit product and still sell tons of it because marketing works. But a youtube video is both the product and the marketing, change the winning formula to something else and risk losing everything.
The comments at around 2:57 about the resto-builds being complicated and time consuming to film are just wet; for the extra effort of filming it gleaned so many more views, because that’s what people people wanted to see, not to mention the old presenters.
Cost is also a rubbish excuse, because the cars were really cheap, and so would the parts have been, especially when weighed against the views they brought in.
It’s such a shame for the new lads/presenters - this new content is like using a plug to stop the titanic sinking

They also got Deals to help them out VAG Technique, BC Coilovers Sponsorship Money. Some of what these two said was what they wanted some of it was Comerical shit to avoid getting the new owners angry.
What sold me on Alex, Jack, and Ethan’s CT era was how relatable the content was. Buying a shitbox for dirt cheap using the websites everyone uses to buy them? Buying on a budget for your first car? Road trip in these cheap performance cars? It was actually more refreshing than a normal review of a rare car. And the effort and lengths they went to make those simple videos really reflected how genuine it felt. If the content is refreshing and genuine, your personalities will feed off of it and the audience will grow.
A car review about what it’s like to drive the M1 or Z1 spiritedly? Meh honestly. What it’s like to drive an M1 or Z1 as a daily driver getting coffee and doing a grocery haul in it? Time attack a normal ass car with no mods? Idk it’s more relatable to a general audience and I’d probably watch it before I’d watch any of those other videos.
All these channels have to do is look at one of the OGs like Mighty Car Mods
I like you guys, but the issue you have is that you think people don't want to see the content that they've been watching for ages. Content that has been popular and is associated with this brand. You cant really expect to completely change the format and have people be onboard. That's not to say there isn't a market for the new stuff, and personally I'm still watching, but its understandable that the old fans would leave.

This channel hasn't been same since the first owner sold it. The 1 car 2 guys series etc were absolutely brilliant. The one where ethan scratches Alex's car and he 'hears ' it whilst sleeping was amazing. Brilliant cinematography and just sharp wit and sketches. So funny😂
42 year old white bloke here. I religiously follow, auto alex, junkyard digs, vice grip garage, TDC and legit street cars. I love cheap old nasty cars being brought back to life and challenges off the back of that. Car throttle used to provide that content. Its nothing personal against car throttle, i just think the content people came here for doesn't exist now.
Vice Grip Garage was really good but now kinda sucks. He's fallen off a bit. But still like the OG channels. CT isn't good anymore but I do appreciate this video

1:46 Are you kidding me? The Car Throttle community platform was brilliant. I was there, it lasted for a few years, I experienced it's uprising and downfall. It didn't work out because management quickly realised it didn't bring any profit so they decided to slowly kill it off.
I personally don't like the track stuff/strange cars things, much rather the buying cars or building cars. Cheap car challenges and all that is much more fun. If I wanted to watch reviews id watch doug demuro tbh. Will stick around to see how yee guys get on👍🏻

The old ct style content is still being made on auto alex and his friends channels and they upload so often now it's even better than when they were still at ct. Why don't they just go and watch their new channels instead if they hate the new ct so much? No one is forcing the haters to watch the new ct, they clearly just have too much time on their hands and live miserable lives. Also, juding by some of these comments its clear that a lot of these people don't have the mental capacity to understand what the presenters were explaining in this video.

These new faces on camera is not Car Throttle. they are just placed there by the same incompetent management that has been hurting this channel for years. The company has repeatedly made mistakes, driving away their presenters. If that's something you want to support, go ahead. but don't think for a second we will stop criticizing them. What mattered is we could still watch them and the chemistry they have. Not having a dig at CT here at all, its just the facts. It'll be very hard to revive this channel now.
This video really says it all in my opinion, the new people that now own Car Throttle STILL don’t seem to get that irrespective of how many channels there are out there doing the same old thing… It’s the same old thing that we all love! my complete guess on how this stuff works is that youtube and cheap cameras completely democratises this stuff. there's absolutely no reason why the driving force behind the content production should not own it themselves. they are what makes it happen so why should they not do it themselves. no room left for corporate owners to make their cut too. any channel like this will lose their best people.

The age old problem of new owners coming in and trying to fix something that wasn't broken and ruining it.
The channel went into a little decline when Alex left, but Ethan and Jack did you proud and kept the channel going nicely, but the channel crashed when they left. Edwins departure probably made little difference, but he was wise to leave the sinking ship and seems to be doing well.
This video is a last gasp effort to try and revive the channel, but the reality is that the channel is over, 3 million subscribers and only pulling 20k views for a video certainly tells the story.

No doubt that Alex and Matt love cars and want to make it a success, and I want to give them a chance. But it's such a typical tale of corporate behaviour - new investors acquire something, quickly decide that it's not sustainable or viable, force significant changes, and then harm the value of their own investment.
Maybe Car Throttle will survive and thrive, but if it doesn't, it all comes down to owners buying something and then concluding it isn't a viable business model, which raises the question of why they bought it in the first place.

Do unconventional fun things with the vehicles and the channel will blossom. Car journaling is so saturated with this new supercar that new supercar, let's take it around the track and that's it. All the same formula making it less fun. The video of the minivan, van and pick up was very fun and unique. Looking forward to more of that type of content

As most of you already know this. With Car Throttle having over 3M subscribers and this video so far only having 108K views. Most of us have lost interest in these videos. In my opinion the true owners of this channel needs to tell us that they messed up but they won't and its a shame since I was really interested in this channel. To say fairwell. From today I have unsubscribed from this channel and to say good luck for the future but I bet in a year time the owners will pull the plug.
Credit where it’s due, they both won’t be the original trio but grabbing the reins and having a go in the face of almost certain failure is great. It’s almost like football, a new manager and team will always change the play of the game, just gotta ride it out and see what works. Head up boys

the reason why alex + ethan and the original top gear trio worked well together is the vary chaotic mix of personality that shoulsnt work well togeter but does.
ethan was the pug driver who wouldn't even know where the bonnet release lever is on his car he owned for 5 years. alex is the guy who would spend 8 hours every saturday working on his car. james may, mat hammond, jeremy clarkson all had very different attitudes to motoring, completely different, they were chaos together and was entertaining.
you two seem to just agree with each other and on the same wavelength. this works well for a factual car show. but its not entertaining.
If only people could stop crying about what they "don't like" and actually gave you a chance... I guess is to much to ask... But keep it going, you 2 make some great presenters

Top Gear syndrome is real. The owners have no shame, honour or respect for the product they are pushing. Should be them in front of the camera for this video and not the new casters.

Car Throttle has been a huge part of my life, I’ve been watching the videos ever since 2012, was a very active member on the CT website/forum, and now I’ve even done several cheap car challenges and roadtrips with my mates inspired by you and Top Gear. Sure, it‘s a shame that the forum no longer exists, that the UA-cam channel has taken such a rough hit and that so much has been going on behind the scenes - but in the end, we’ve now got three amazing new channels with AutoAlex, Top Dead Center and All the Gear, and I‘m sure that you two can bring this legendary channel back to life as well, even if it might take some time. These comment sections have become literal battlefields - don’t let that discourage you, keep going!

I think we all know this should have been the first video from these guys, moving past that though. It's fairly obvious that it's a little from column A and a little from column B. It's clear the budget has been slashed and I hope your intent is to do something new, if not for the fact that that just doesn't work, if Top Gear can't do it...
Probably the best thing to do is get one or both of you out of your comfort zones, that usually produces the best content and has worked for a lot of people. Think about the time Ethan was made to service the Jazz, such basic content for a petrol head and it worked every time because he struggled to do it, we can empathise with that.
I've tuned in and out, so what I've seen may not be the whole picture. I've not really seen much chemistry between you two, I'm not trying to be mean here... you either do or you don't. I'll keep tuning in and out for a while and I hope you manage to find your stride and keep/grow the audience. Try not to listen to the trolls too much or sniff your own farts if/when things pick up. You'll have to try things to see what people like ultimately, I hope you enjoy the ride either way. Good luck!

I started watching Car throttle in 2016 when i was 11. I am from a 3rd world country and not UK, the cheap car content made it relatable to be, because cheap cars for you guys are just regular cars here
