I think the OOK strategy is the hardest, maybe not much moreso than a lot of others listed here, but due to the fact that it requires precision, luck, and that it has never been performed on console without cheats makes it insane. I remember your video on it a couple years ago and thinking how crazy it was then, and I'd expected the community to have taken a crack at it by now, however it still stands out there, waiting to be done. Thanks for the entertainment Goose
If Boris thinks he's escaping anything by running outside then he's got another thing coming - Severnaya is no place to be dressed like that (it's -25°C (-13°F) there right now).
While highly outdated in this day and age, just yesterday I actually ran into the bradygames unauthorized guide for goldeneye i used to have when the game came out nearly 25 years ago. I still can't believe I actually found it again, had completely forgotten about it until I ran into it in the store especially considering how rare it is to find now.
I think 2 tricks that are super hard currently, mostly because as far as I know, nobody understands how they work, are the Ghost Doors in Archives, and Trev randomly dying, covered in your Unsolved Mysteries video. Really wish we knew more about how those two worked.
Being someone who doesn't speedrun and even doesn't like the concept of it (I play to relax, not infuriate myself due to dozens upon dozens of fails), things like OOK make me want to try in the hopes that sheer dumb luck will enable me to pull it off and upload it to the The Elite so that I can be immortalized in Goldeneye history.
@@GamerFolklore SQUEAL! I got a reply! :D Maybe some day when I can get the money to buy a N64, Goldeneye, capture card, and CRT TV. I'm throwing money at so many different problems right now. Can't even use an emulator to practice because none of them like my stupid cheap CPU lol If I do end up doing it, it'll probably take a few weeks just to get use to the N64's strange controller lol What were they thinking having only one analog stick? XD And I can't even imagine trying to use 2.x. When you showed off your duct taped together controllers, it looked like some kind of alien remote control lol Anyway, thanks for the videos. I wouldn't have even known about Goldeneye, let alone cared about its speedrunning community if it wasn't for me coming across one of your "Is (insert level) (insert time) possible?" videos (though Karl's the one who got me interested in listening about speedrunning with one of his DOOM videos). If I ever do somehow become the first one to pull off OOK in the future, I'll be sure to sing your praises (And I guess Karl's too lol)
Nice! How about the opposite, for a video idea? Namely, the easiest tricks in Goldeneye that almost any lay person could have theoretically pulled off, but simply sat there undiscovered for years because nobody thought to try them. I'm thinking things like the opening the train floor hatch without bothering to rescue Natalya that if I remember rightly was used to get an untied sweep, what others like that have happened?
Skipping rescuing Natalya is actually really hard though. If you want a trick that any casual player could potentially do on their first try but is still kind of mind-blowing, try the basic “suicide Trev” strat on Cradle: Stand in a certain place, Trev blows up, the game’s final boss is gone without ever having to fight him.

Speedlore or not. Thank you for posting this detailed video. I cannot put into words how much this means to me personally but thank you not then less. For the content
The true hardest trick is indeed playing the game well. The runaway grenade juggling seems quite difficult though. Val strafe is also one of those tricky things to do really well as you surely recognize.
Could argue that a perfect val strafe and timed leave on streets SA / 00 is up there because so few 1:54's but I'll trust your judgement on that! Good stuff Ryan 👍 always interesting.
i might take up goldeneye speed running i think i’ve still got my cartridge in the garage and my old grey n64 console , thing is goldeneye was optimised for NTSC as PAL was in 50hz
Running Boris is still heavily RNG-based, and a couple of these have never been done on console. So Runway 00 may be the best fully skill-based nominee here as far as tricks that have actually been done on console… any other competitors in that category?
They say man greatest of fear is of the unknown. However, the lengths of which these speed runners are willing to go for a fast time is terrifying, If I recall, I think Facility was probably the last in-game cheat for me to unlock since it also involved some rng with Dr Doak being in the right place.
I think the most important part i've taken from this video is that the Goldeneye Speedrunners, contrary to most Speedrunners, are bad into giving cool/funny name into the strats.... Like... really... The OOK one deff would be something like 'guards swicharoo' or 'frozen pudding' if it was Portal 2 lol
One thing I don't really think was considered here is that the amount of people who are able to successfully complete a trick doesn't directly correlate to the challenge of that trick. For example imagine a trick that for whatever reason required you to simply wait with the game paused for 2000 hours, then play at least reasonably well; like maybe the game being left on that long causes some type of memory leak overflow and objects don't load or become intangible or some other nonsense. The trick wouldn't be "hard" but it would be sufficiently prohibitive. Most good players wouldn't be interested and bad players would lack the basic skill to utilize the trick to score a novelty untied. Surely SOMEONE would buy an uninterruptible power supply, wait and eventually score the untied, but a trick like this would lack the prestige to make doing so even worth consideration to the majority of players.
@@Lovuschka Yea lol, not everyone is down for a 420 hour run. Alternatively like, Minecraft True Dream%, where the skill required for the run can be completely eclipsed by the amount of luck you need for a shot.
@@Lovuschka It's running Minecraft until you match Dream's "luck" across a sufficiently large sample of games, except done on a legitimate copy of the game, thus the "True." I.E. not a real category, just the concept of a run that would require a degree of luck so astronomical that the odds of it ever happening if everyone on the planet used all of their time exclusively attempting to achieve it are statistically insignificant.
