    Great video! Thank you for showing multiple modes and what they actually do rather then just saying, 'This is the threshold, this is the ratio, you see.'

    Man, you have really come a long way in the last few years. I've watched your videos from the beginning, because you were one of the only channels that talked about analog routing. I bought a Tascam M3500 and didn't know where to start, but you really helped me out. Thanks for your videos, and I also dig the accent.

    The only thing to watch out with the 160a or 560a etc is that you can very easily increase peak level with it despite getting a nice sound, which obviously isn't ideal for containing dynamics. It's because it has a reasonably slow attack time which explains the nice punch but will often increase peaks rather than decreasing them. Some saturation or clipping to follow it is often necessary.

    i hate the sound of the alesis you have the top of your rack, but i heard that you can replace something or mod them in some way and make them awesome. curious if anyone here has done that.

    I noticed Guitar Center has tons of DBX units fairly cheap, which one would be good for general recording especially for recording DJ mixes? Don't want to squash the mix just even out the peaks when overlapping multiple songs.

      I'd look into an FMR RNLA or RNC

    Nice video (as always) Marty.
    Would you know the difference between the DBX 160A, 160X and 160XT. They all look similar. I am having a problem finding out. Thanks as always.

      Thank you! Not really, as far as I know they changed the internal signal paths and connectors slightly from version to version. XT for example has XLR inputs.
      The original version was the 160, then 165, 160X and 160XT. The 160 and the XT are probably the most famous ones, you pretty much see them in all bigger studios.
      The 160A was the newest rendition, but meanwhile also discontinued.

      @@ZedMartyProduction Thanks for that info Marty. I'd like to get a least two of these units, I'll just have to decide which to buy. I do know that I am very happy with the two vintage DBX 166 compressors and I have since the early 1990s...(30 years basically)....Be well.

    • @ZedMartyProduction

    how does it compare to FMR comps?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  6 років тому +4

      The FMR comps are more neutral sounding especially when doing more compression. The dbx has quite a signature sound and you can really hear the compression. Great for Bass or Vocals.
