Legatus - Grass Valley - Spatially and Temporally Displaced Soundscapes #4
Legatus major soundscape augmentation artefact installed in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Grass Valley, California on May 5th, 2021. This unedited video shows the artefact reacting to environmental conditions including ambient light levels, temperature, and humidity. Furthermore, the artefact's vocalisations are triggered by events in the in-situ sonic environment.
For this test pop-up exhibit, the artefact was installed for several hours and closely observed. Several locations were tested for the artefact this day using the "Spatially and Temporally Displaced" approach to creating hyper-soundscapes. This method involves the playback of field recordings collected from a broad range of distant locations and times which are played by the artefact to draw attention to its presence in the environment and the in-situ sonic environment. The artefact provides periods of silence so visitors have time and space to listen to the sounds present.
