This is perfect for me! I set my gear mesh wrong, and stripped my spur gear in 2 uses. 😅
    Already waiting for tomorrow’s post!

I also do the paper trick, but i use big enough of a piece of paper and run it all the way through. If it goes through without ripping the paper and leaves perfect teeth prints 👍🏾💯

glad you covered the fact that you need to check in more than one position, caught a few out of round myself. May also have a slightly bent rotor shaft as well, definitely a good combination.

Ive used the paper method ever since getting my 1st rc. A Tamiya Blackfoot back in 1986. I believe it was in their build manual. Even my early on Traxxas TMaxx's instruction manual had a number of pre labeled templets in the back that you could cut and use. I dont think I have seen this in any manual in quite some time. Perfect size is @ 5/16" x 1-1/4". This stays put even if you accidently roll the gears a little while tightening. I have owned @ 2dozen RC's over the years in Electric, Nitro and Gas and have always done the paper trick. I dont recall the last time I had a gear mesh failure. Good Luck.

Good info for the novice. Another note is to make sure the grub screw for the pinion gear is not going to hit the spur gear also.

    Great information Mark 👍
Just make sure if you are using paper method to use general note paper and if it tears when you spin the spur gear by hand inspect closely something is not correct. Gears are not generally expensive to replace but setup incorrectly it will lead to a host of issues.

XL 5 brushed motors will benefit chucking the factory installed phillips head motor screws & replace with Traxxas part # 3931 3x8mm flat head hex drive screws. Better feel & no stripping of inferior phillips screw head .

That's a pretty cool technique. I have a question about how you upload your videos 5 days a week and have alot of content. I've fallen off of UA-cam and want to start posting again. Recently watching your videos and seeing you grow inspired me. My current goal is to get to 1k so I can do live videos subs I'm currently at 529. Love the videos keep up the good work!👍

Traxxas or Traxxas Support made a video about it, I think for electric Traxxas models they suggest using lined notebook paper, pretty sure it's normal paper for Traxxas nitro, and I think that is for 48 pitch, but you can watch their video. They also sell fixed gear adapters which are good but I don't know what spur and pinion combinations they work with and for what models.
