Congratulations! Changing your standing rigging was a major accomplishment. Sailing long distances definitely puts people in situations where you have little choice but to be self-reliant. Staying calm and evaluating the alternative solutions usually results in finding a path forward. And, when you find a viable path and execute it successfully, it creates a wonderful sense of accomplishment and confidence going forward. I hope you are relishing this challenging and vibrant lifestyle you are experiencing. Best wishes, Jeff (10,000 ocean miles)
Getting a lady on scales is an incredible task. To actually film it and broadcast it to the world is practically a death wish for us mere mortals. Once again, a great production.
I like your perspective on everything going wrong at the same time. We've only lived aboard for 6 months FT but we notice the same things ourselves. I have a list of boat chores and things to fix right now as I sip on my coffee and contemplate if it is beer thirty yet, not knowing what day of the week it is?! Cheers from the crew of Miss Lone Star.
Also people need to remember you guys are sailing constantly so things are being used all the time. There is alot of up keep and alot of money. Its awesome you guys have been able to do alot yourselves. My friend was donating so I gave him $200.00 to put with his donation. I hope it helps you guys. I know this is an older video but the cobtabt sailing and upkeep of the vessel continues. 😁👍
I'm impressed. To take on the job of replacing the entire rigging is not to be taken lightly. A really really good example of how your guys are great at sailing maintenance. Congrats.
We'd like thank the crew of S/V Delos for taking us "behind the scenes" with their Rig Refit series. A great amount of information presented in a creative, informative, and entertaining way.
Well, I'm completely impressed with Rolly Tasker and the other marine support facilities in Phuket. I can fully understand why you chose this location for the re-rigging and other work.
Hi Brian , Kazza, and Sierra! Been watching a long time and have gone back to these oldies for fun. I've just bought my own sailboat and these vids on replacing the standing rigging yourself have been incredible. So useful guys, big thank you for showing that even the massive jobs can be tackled with a little research and a good attitude. Stay safe in the Caribbean
Love all of you guys. just became a Patreon for you. thanks Brian, for taking the time to acknowledge your followers. I just bought my first sailboat. A Catalina 22 which I bought out of Seattle. stay safe and sail on!!! Love to all of you!
+Kurt Johnson Thanks for the support Kurt, it's only because of supporters like yourself that this is possible at all. We are eternally grateful. Fair Winds and happy sailing! Brian
Congratulations to all you guys, you take me back in time when I was a kid, I expected anciously every week my favorite TV show, "Voyage to the bottom of the sea" Now I'm 58 and you guys have me waiting the same way as back then for your newest episode. Thanks for the good stuff. Hope to be doing the same as you in two more years when I retire.
Rolly Tasker is such a cool shop. What a great experience getting to manufacture your own rigging with the supervision of a professional. Seemed to take a scary stressful task and transform it into a hard, yet doable learning experience. You guys rock! I'm savin' and learnin' and I will see you out there. Thank you for all of the inspiration. Wishing you full sheets and cold drinks! Nigel
+joe voges Oh bro- thanks so much for letting us use it. It's perfect tunes! Just the other night we had some friends over in Cape Town and put on Chiba. Such a perfect vibe. BTW- Brady is gonna send you that footage soon. Peace and Love from Delos- Brian
What you are doing reminds me of Jacques Cousteau adventures. Excellent team effort on everything, working with the ship, the videos, it all brings a huge smile to my face.
You guys are amazing. There is so much to know about a boat and always something to learn. It just goes to show a big job can seem daunting but when you tackle it step by step anything is possible and of course Thailand is such a great place to get stuff like this done at the right price. Despite the fact things are fairly basic there, there's always a man who can fix it and he is never too hard to pay. It's the big guys that make the money. I go to Thailand regularly and marvel at the craftsmanship and nothing is any trouble. Well done and Happy Sailing.
Best sailing videos ever!!!! Just found y’all a few months ago - bought some swag and now watching your older journeys.. keep it up - y’all are inspirational!!!
Great video and a fantastic boat. Brian you really present what it takes to be self sufficient while cruising. The amazing thing I see in all your videos is the way everyone is ready to pull together and fill in all the needs of the group to get what needs to be done. What I think I see is everyone works to complete a goal, that makes you quite the manager, well done! I cannot wait to see more.
+dtonvista Yeah, we have a pretty awesome crew :) Everyone is super cool and really doesn't shy away from hard work which is crucial. Fair Winds! Brian
+SV Delos Sailing I have been watching your channel for quite some tine, thinking that mostly you guys were just out for some wild party's, but what I see is the start of a great book, and possibly a movie when shown to the write person, your task is to find that person!
+Kerry Dolan Jr. yea cool glad you enjoyed! We met Chiba in South Africa and he's a super cool dude. We just asked can we use your music and he said "Sure, of course. Get it out there" Too cool. Fair Winds! Brian
Awesome! You all are so resourceful and I enjoy how your team always aims to repair and reuse as opposed to tossing and buying new. Really enjoy the can do attitudes and problem solving skills you all demonstrate. Keep me dreaming!!
Dude! Hearing your thoughts on boats waking you while up the mast brought back BAD memories changing the anchor light on our boat. The lesson I learned, don't go up the mast in a crowded anchorage on a weekend... great video again. Delos is an amazing vessel.
Hey Brian, you might have some trouble with those pins that you had machined for the shrouds. Ideally the pin size is very near the hole size both in the shackle and the chain plate. This is important because it spreads the load over the entire face of the pin (and the sides of the plate and shackle). With an oversize hole in the shackle you are concentrating the load on the very bottom of the shackle. This can cause the metal to fatigue more rapidly. Be sure to keep a close eye on that.
This series on the rig change was so cool! I really enjoyed it! I'm always blown away by your incredible ingenuity and how amazingly resourceful the shops are at fabricating things. Love your videos, always so fun:)
We just started watching y'all, love it!we get it,we too got out of the rat race. At 48 we moved to the island off Alabama.Fort Morgan, our home has the bay for our front yard and the Gulf on our left,a small boat. As we get older the less we need. we love the example y'all have set. Fair blows the wind. Eddie and Melissa.
That is one of the best videos of all Brian, especially for technical stuff on the boat. An amazing job in such a short space of time! Looking forward to seeing you all sailing again!
Duno why but i never really got on with SV Delos, preferring the smaller youtube sailing channels. Then you panned around the beautiful boats in the Royal Phuket Marina with their crisp white starched covers and highly polished hulls, before settling on the construction site Delos with your pants hanging up along the boom and i just fell in love.
Interesting look at that strange bacterial/yeast culture. Rolly Tasker is one amazing factory for boat parts and fittings. Great work doing this huge rigging job.
Wow skipper, really educational these 3 episodes (like always, but more than ever), lotta werk with filming, you guys are fast-paced. Thank you for the fan contact, fair winds.
+Eddy Bobea Yeah, it is a bit of work but adds a whole other dimension to the trip. Really is a cool project to work on :) Fair Winds and thanks for watching! Brian
Those repairs would have been a pain in the ass for sure but, from a snowy, frozen Canada seeing you all walking around in flip-flops, t-shirts and sweating in the sun was nice to watch LOL! Thanks - best of luck to you all :)
+Erated78 Yeah, we really can't bitch and moan too much can we? Even the worst day on Delos still beats my best days at work before :) Fair Winds- Brian
"There's nothing-absolutely nothing-half so much worth doing as messing about in boats." Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows Really liking your videos (even if its planting this expensive idea to sail my boat around the world)! Keep up the excellent work!
you guys are truly an inspiration, I've been watching all of your videos from the beginning, I just have to keep saving for my boat so I can live the life. fair winds and following seas
The real question here is how did Josje gained 5 lbs...The chic's on Delo's are like a rail, I am surprised a big wind hasn't come by and blown them away..LOL..Thank you for another great video of the adventure of Delo's and crew...Keep the stick up, the rudder on and the water out!
I had a great time watching this video and the wonderful weather you are experiencing while a snow storm rages outside in Nova Scotia. Oh well, I will be alpine skiing this weekend. You are almost finished with the rig, cheers.
Great video. Liked seeing the down side of owning a boat. Basically just like owning a house and having to put on a new roof. Looking forward to seeing some sailing again.
Another freakin' awesome video guys! You seem to achieve more in each day that you were at the marina than most of us cruisers do in a week! And total respect for taking on your own rigging refit. Fair winds.
Mad respect for doing your own rigging. I must say, going up the mast and doing all maintenance in general is what scares me about living aboard a sailboat, cause I have fear of heights and zero handyman skills. But maybe that's why I should do it anyway. A new rig every ten years is more frequent replacement than I expected as well.
alfonso vega I agree 100%. This is truly food for the soul. I respect these guys and gals "can do" attitude and especially Karins attitude "failure is not an option". I thought of that one time watching her pull on some lines that required every bit of her strength. What a difference in my personality since i started watching Delos crew. I used to be hung up on politics, and so frustration and anger were my daily feelings, and now Im the poster child for serenity, thanks to bryans soothing voice. lol, love you all.
+Babysealskiller Oh man, thanks for that! Appreciate the comment :) Thanks so much for sticking with us for so long! Man, what a ride.... Fair Winds- Brian
Awesome video -thanks for that! Its really cool that Brian and Brady are MacGyver types. You can't exactly call for service in the middle of the ocean! Knowing your boat and systems that well and staying on top of maintenance, is commendable. I've been aloft a few times myself and the deck sure does look tiny from the top of the mast. I've been sailing in the SF Bay area for years and you're the first people I know that has replaced their own rigging. For the blue water sailing that you guys are doing, planned maintenance is a must. I still think that the Discovery channel should underwrite you because its such a great adventure that you're on!
kudos big time for doing your own rigging on such a large yacht.....with 2 masts!! I'm now gonna take a magnifying glass down to my 27 footer (in Seattle) and check the standing rigging. I've been inspired! Cheers, all.
Thanks for continuing to make great vids guys, we have been following for years starting on our couch at home and are now 1 yr into our own sailing adventure! Woohoo! You guys are the pioneers in vlogging so thanks for paving the way for all us new comers.
+Trio Travels Very cool guys, glad to hear you're out on your own sailing exploits! The vlogging side of this project has really added another dimension to cruising. In some ways it's a lot and you are sort of "viewing things through the camera" but the other side of that is you take time to really look and observe things in a way you wouldn't otherwise. So it's always a bit of trade off just like anything. Fair Winds and wishing you guys the best! Brian
I really like the videos that are done on or about the boat. Beach videos are a close second, and last place is scuba video. I appreciate the scuba, but I enjoy the passage, salon, party, and repair vids.
You really busted your a$$ on getting the rigging changed out Brian, Brady, and Max. Well Done. Safety first! Even though you guys seem at times to go a little crazy I do notice that you put safety of the ship and crew as a top priority. Nicely done. Fair winds and Following seas
Awesome job!! That looks like it was a ton of work, but working on it yourself and with the folks at Rolly should give you the ultimate confidence that it was done right. Safe travels!!!
ah Breeyann, you sir are a genious lol, just create a life living on a great rig on the wonderful ocean with your best friend and a bunch of chill beautys... i have nothing but respect for you and the crew hahaha incredible incredible incredible GRATZ on all that hard work. smooth sails....
I met Rolly Tasker back in 1979 after he won the Parmelia yacht race England to Fremantle Australia, I was 11 years old at the time and he was a sailing god.
Another great episode guys! I almost said video, but these really are episodes of your life. Plus they are on par with any "professionally" made TV episode. You folks have excellent instincts on editing. It all just seems to flow. I don't have a boat yet and have not made many marine equipment purchases, but I would guess it would have cost another 10k or more if you had done those projects in the states. Huge amount of work and Brady has the scar to prove it! I used to dirt bike trail ride and when I saw his leg I had flashbacks. I'd like to check into that Kombucha. What is the correct spelling? I also wanted to say thanks for introducing me to all of the great music. I have a whole new folder on my PC now for Delos music. Onetox, Halcyon Drive, Savi Fernandez and of course my favorite Phoebe! Thanks from all of us!
+Someday Sailor Hey thanks for that, it's really nice to hear the love and passion we put into these videos shines through :) We really enjoy making them and it adds an completely other dimension to the voyage. You know what actually the prices wouldn't have been that much different because all the parts are imported from over seas anyway, we probably would have saved a bit from shipping and import fees but Yacht stuff in Thailand really isn't that cheap unless it's something very labor intensive where you can save some $$ for sure. Fair Winds and wishing you the best! Brian
I think I know who 'complained' about you guys. I have a strong feeling that it was the mega yacht on the end, seen in many shots from the top of the mast. Cheers Delos crew ! Fair winds, and big mother cakes, always ;)
A superb spirit and your adventure done the right way.! Its a shame the timings are out as I may well be in Zanzibar anywhere between October and December and would have loved to buy you all a beer for real and possibly stow away with you for a while. I'll continue to catch up with your adventures and monitor then with interest.
Getting close to your next adventure ! Can't wait ! Smooth sailing from here on out and I'm sure the new rigging gives you peace of mind knowing that it was done right. Hate that you wasted your money on that half ass inspector ! :-)
Again a great video, many thumbs up! Anybody noticed the discrepancy between the healthy kombucha and the scattered teflon pan. Maybe time for new (ceramic) pan!! Stay healthy, stay safe!
+Mum Blic Yeah good point! We've been meaning to replace that stupid pan for ages. Funny how somethings we stay on top of while others just sort of sit there.... Fair Winds! Brian
And drinking out of all those Alu cans. Especially alcohol or sodas make aluminum leak into the liquids. Just something you may like to improve on, not just environmentally but for brain and joint health. Love your solar screens. Great video.
I love the background SHENANIGANS going on... good stuff! Keep it up! What an ordeal changing the stays, great job. keep the good stuff blowing! Much love
Remember you can do a secondary fermentation with fruit for your Booch! Add awesome flavours and some carbonation :). RAD video this go around guys and gals. I'm loving every video.
Lol, about the six month seven people provisioning for food ... Oh boy ... I hope you guys know about Positive boyance ... :) Or you all intent to go on a massive diet ... :) I did not even imagined Delos would be capable of carrying that much food for such an extended amount of time ! Although I've seen once the vast amount of space inside ... even like that ...looking forward to that video.
Brian, You mentioned that you thought it might be neat to have a welder on your boat. I'd suggest either Lincoln 200 or the Miller Max Star 150. Get the TIG/Stick combo and use a pony bottle for the welding gas. Also get the finger control so you can adjust the power at the handle. It saves you from adjusting on the face of the welder. I just strap the welder to my back and walk where I need the weld. You can power with 240 VAC on the boat and use an extended dock electrical line. If it's calm and you can block your weld site from the wind, I use TIG. It's much cleaner. If shaky or windy, then use stick. Just make sure you keep the sticks in an air tight bag with silica or some other dessicant or else the Sticks will absorb water from the air and be useless.
Sounds a lot like most of my projects. Start out with one simple thing, and the next thing you know, you're up to your armpits in alligators!! LOL! Gotta give you guys a A+ for improvisation and getting the job done!
Awesome to have all of that behind you! It must be great to sail, knowing all of that was sorted out and shiny new! And somehow I think it was probably cheaper in Thailand than most other places you could have found yourself.
+John Lampe Yeah no doubt it was super good to replace it given the weather we encountered in the Indian Ocean. Actually it was about the same cost as all the good quality parts had to be imported from Australia, the US, and France. So the real savings would have been in labor except the shops here charged US rate too. Oh well, at least we learned a lot! Fair winds- Brian

Hey Delos. I know this is one of your earlier episodes but I wanted to watch it to see how you tackled your rigging issues. Well done and yes, the jerk who did your initial inspection should have had his business name plastered all over your video so people won't fall for his claptrap again. Not even close to a true rigger. That said, I wanted to share a tip for helping to extend the life of your swage fittings. Because of the saltwater environment, the sea salt gets between the swage and the wire rigging, given that there's salt in the air from evaporation and from waves. When the water dries, it leaves behind the salt crystals. Some of those get washed out when it rains but not before they've done microscopic damage, like pitting. Where I live, rigging lasts longer in our salt water environment because I live in a temperate rain forest and so the fresh water from the frequent rain washes any salts out and off of the standing rigging. I mean, it can rain for days at a time in Juneau, Alaska. So, perhaps it's not a bad idea to rinse your standing rigging with fresh water when you're in port somewhere. Anyway, I thought you guys did a great job w/ the rigging replacement project and you saved a lot of money! Enough to provision Delos for 6 months for 7 people! Noice! Cheers from Southeast Alaska.
Great videos have watch them all I'm like allot of the rest of your followers hard to wait for the next one your crew are the best and glad to see how everyone gets in and helps with everything keep making the videos
This should be a TV show , better than any reality show airing.

Getting a lady on scales is an incredible task. To actually film it and broadcast it to the world is practically a death wish for us mere mortals. Once again, a great production.

So I am watching this episode for like the 5th time...It never gets old!! GO SV DELOS!!
One of my favorite things is to crack open a beer and watch the newest Delos episode while dreaming about the day I can start cruising. Cheers!
Congratulations to all you guys, you take me back in time when I was a kid, I expected anciously every week my favorite TV show, "Voyage to the bottom of the sea" Now I'm 58 and you guys have me waiting the same way as back then for your newest episode. Loved this rigging trilogy. It can never get too nerdy or detailed for me.

Looking forward to seeing you all sailing again!

What a mission getting the rigging sorted, well done team all safe and sound. Another interesting and entertaining video. Happy and safe cruising.
Was awesome seeing their machine shop and awesome to learn they make all the injection molded parts for Ronstan too! Great episode!
I was in a terrible mood today.....then i saw you guys posted. Smiling again :)

This reminds me of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Brian has a soothing voice narrating a factory tour.

alfonso vega I agree 100%.
The End, is the worst part of your episodes. Thanks for sharing your life with us! I have been following "Delos" since 2011. 5 years!
+Babysealskiller Oh man, thanks for that! Appreciate the comment :) Thanks so much for sticking with us for so long! Man, what a ride.... Fair Winds- Brian
Great video, very detailed. Surprised they let you stay as long as they did at the marina ;) Can't wait to see Delos on her way again.
What a hell of a project! Gives me the confidence to re-rig my boat.
kudos big time for doing your own rigging on such a large yacht.....with 2 masts!! I'm now gonna take a magnifying glass down to my 27 footer (in Seattle) and check the standing rigging. I've been inspired! Cheers, all.
+Brad L. Cool Brad, glad to hear you're gonna take a look at your rigging. There's nothing quite like tackling it yourself. Fair Winds- Brian
Brian
Rolly Tasker was a legend! Brilliant Aussie sailer.
Thought this might be a bit boring but I was captivated.
Awesome job!! That looks like it was a ton of work, but working on it yourself and with the folks at Rolly should give you the ultimate confidence that it was done right. Safe travels!!!
+B Mac Yep, there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of doing it yourself and knowing it's done right! Fair Winds- Brian
@Sailing SV Delos LOVE ME SOME KOBUCHA! and making your own is so rewarding! Cute little Scobes!
You guys are amazing! It seems like you have great cooperation among yourselves to get a multitude of tasks done simultaneously. Great videos!
thank you so much for sharing the world and your adventures with us.
My favorite series so far I know you don't film just for me but I felt like this 3of3 was exactly what I wanted to see. Keep it up.
open your hole.... lol. You guys are the best when things get cheeky and not bleeped out!!!!
Nice to see everything turn out well. This was a great three part video. It really showed some of the other side to all the fun you all have.
ah Breeyann, you sir are a genious lol, just create a life living on a great rig on the wonderful ocean with your best friend and a bunch of chill beautys... i have nothing but respect for you and the crew hahaha incredible incredible incredible GRATZ on all that hard work. smooth sails....
Brian
Really enjoyed all these rigging vids and looking forward to the provisioning one. Great job guys!
I think I know who 'complained' about you guys.
I have a strong feeling that it was the mega yacht on the end, seen in many shots from the top of the mast.
Cheers Delos crew !
Fair winds, and big mother cakes, always ;)
I love these vids, so educational and entertaining. Thank you so very much Delos crew.
I've caught all your video's and wish you all the best during your 6 month tour.
guys from Rolly Tasker seem super cool, helpful, and talented. cool video
I think i was just as stoked about seeing the new pin as you guys. Nerding out on fittings! :)
Hi All !
Uh Oh ,We thought you were in deep trouble for getting grease on the dock from one of the cables ! LOL Great videos !
Lol, about the six month seven people provisioning for food ... Oh boy ... I hope you guys know about Positive boyance ... :)
Or you all intent to go on a massive diet ... :)
I did not even imagined Delos would be capable of carrying that much food for such an extended amount of time !
+Jason Masters Cool man, really appreciate the advice! Brian
Sounds a lot like most of my projects. Start out with one simple thing, and the next thing you know, you're up to your armpits in alligators!! LOL! Gotta give you guys a A+ for improvisation and getting the job done!
That's basically the definition of a boat project :)
Great job on doing the rigging yourselves, was fun to watch!

Oh, interesting. Good to know.
Love watching your adventure! Good wind to you all.
I'd rather watch y'all change rigging and hang around a welding shop than just about anything else! :) Cheers all!
@5:25 Oh Damn.......Brady wasn't getting any that day. Bummer
Idk if i'd drink that Kombucha swill, you are brave Brady. To each his own :)
I for one say we all pitch in and get David some safety glasses. I cringed watching him with the grinder. Amazing job Delos crew!
I RAISE MY HAT TO YOU ALL ON THE RIDDING PROJECT GREAT JOB
Love the black Bart hat Brian! Another great video and very informative! Cheers!
I watch all your videos and look forward to what's to come. Keep it up and be safe ☺️
+Gerald Rundall Thanks so much Gerald, really appreciate that. New one next Friday so stay tuned :) Brian
