I’m Mexican and got introduced to smashing pumpkins thru a friend. What an era to be alive with music.❤ If you are reading this, I wish you the best in your next life adventure. Don’t give up. You can do this. ❤
I remember drinking half a bottle of Jim Beam to myself. (Probably only the 2nd or 3rd time i’d got drunk), while my mates were having sex with the girls whose house we were in. ....I listens to ‘Disarm’ about 20 times in a row.
I found a smashing pumpkins disc thingy in my grandparents barn a month or so ago. Im glad i did, because i think sp is my favourite band now. (Im 14 so i really havent ever heard of sp before.)
As someone who is nearing 21, I just want smashing pumpkins to know that there are still people listening and loving their music ❤️ they inspire me so much
I’m turning 21 next month my dad used to listen to smashing pumpkins. Although we’ve never really had a strong relationship I always think of him when I listen to them.
I was already almost 40 when Siamese Dream was released. It's still one of my favorite rock albums ever, and the other albums were very good too. Great band.
I know most won't agree with me, but I got to hear the Pumpkins when I was 11 back in 1989 cause I live in Racine, Wi right between Milwaukee and Chicago. The local college alternative station were playing them as early as 89-90 on the radio, and my all time favorite song by them still after all these years is "Rhinoceros". The video, the music, the camera work between the band mates faces as the great Jimmy Chamberlain bangs on those drums those distinctive four times. Billy's voice when the song picks up oh man just pure audio perfection. Thank the maker we had our Midwest band to hold that alternative flag for us, well them Ministry and Urge Overkill (who are madly underrated!!!). Thank you for posting this. SP for life!!!
Rhinoceros was my favorite SP song for years (now second only to Glynis). A non-pumpkin-fan friend of mine back then would downplay the song all the time... She would say (about the refrain): "Corgan obsessively repeats 'and she knows', how can you like it so much? How can you have goosebumps? That's ridiculous!" To which I replied: "Yeah, but it's so powerful in many ways, so emotionally powerful!" 30 years have passed and the refrain still haunts me in a positive way...
@@RetroGamingLoft I Always imagine the "she knows" refrain from the view of a boyfriend who cheated just looking at his girlfriend, no words needed just looks like yep you're fried. I'm sure the song isn't about that, but that's the beauty about music. So many bands including Nirvana and SP have said a lot of their songs and lyrics are up to how the fans want to interpret them. Which is why I always thought that "and she knows" repeat is the scenario I picked either way there's no right or wrong answers
I was 19 and though as a musician I can't do much of the pumpkins, it was a truly special time and their music conjures up all sorts of great nostalgia. Peace
Almost all of these songs I still listen to till this day. We used to get blazed and jam out to SP. Most people found out about them around the siamese dream album in the 90s. I quickly found all of their pre popular albums. It never gets old and sounds as good as the day each cd came out of the wrappers. The style that went along with the music. Walking in to school the only Kid with Zero shirt and leather white pants 90s brought so much change to music and culture. So fun back then.
mellon collie was by far one of the best albums EVER made. period. i was totally obsessed w SP in the mid to late 90s, and i still adore old SP music. 1979 was on heavy rotation among so many other classics
Saw them for their 'gish' tour at the Whiskey here in Hollywood. Hole opened for them. Courtney Love came out drunk and said "Hi, we're Pearl Jam!" and ragged on Pearl Jam for a minute before starting the show with 'Doll Parts'...the Pumpkins opened with 'Siva;'...I crowd surfed their whole set LOL...good show!

You know one of my college buddies turned me on to Smashing Pumpkins and he said listen to that which was Gish and I was blown away because to me they didn’t sound like anyone else. Billy’s vocals were very unique, his and James guitar 🎸 playing very original and inspirational, Darcy with her own ice Queen vibe, and Jimmy’s very unique approach to playing aggressively and then quietly and then amazing dexterity with ghost notes on the snare and toms with jazz flavoring! So to sum up they didn’t sound like any group at their time not grunge, soft rock, not alternative, not Progressive rock just their own unique sound which was unheard before ala Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix where right of the Shute as a listener you were going what’s this? I don’t know but I like this! Saw the Gish tour and then Siamese Dream tour as part of LOLLAPOLOOZA! Love the guys! I do miss Darcy though! Just sayin 💔

And Billy is Corgan. A survivor.
