Westlife sit down with Kyle Meredith to discuss their first North American tour in their 25 year career. Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, & Shane Filan talk about their reaction to having the dates immediately sell out, the advice that Simon Cowell gave them early on, and how their latest album Wild Dreams finds them getting back to a pure pop music sound. The Irish group also tells us what its been like to work with the younger songwriters who grew up on their music, the massive success that covering “You Raise Me Up” afforded them, finding a Billy Joel-vibe on their song “Magic,” and what they see in K-Pop and current pop trends.

I've been a fan of Westlife since they released 'Swear It Again' here in the US way back in 2000. I've traveled to Ireland 4 times to see them live so a North American tour is definitely a dream come true for me! Loved this interview with them!
American fan here who happened upon a song with Diana Ross and Westlife randomly one day. I played it over and over again as I couldn’t believe what I thought were “supporting singers” sang much more powerful than the legend. One day, it dawn on me that they were famous, legendary themselves in Europe that have hits after hits. I laughed when Kian mentioned the stats on UA-cam, as it’s probably me. 😂😂😂

Magic and Lifeline are such great songs! Wild Dreams is actually one of my favourite albums of theirs so far.

I like how the interviewer is such a fan, he's so fit to interview them. And Westlife, along with the Backstreet Boys are my favorite groups ever, they speak to my more sentimental side with their beautiful music and I'm so glad that the Americans are finally catching up to the greatness that is Westlife, it's like they said, they're still breaking new ground and I couldn't be happier for them as a fan
Mark, Westlife charted with Swear It Again in America. Those are the fans Westlife still has in America. That was Westlife's peak.
You guys must not underestimate that success.
Now you're legend, you won't do better than your peak, but you can keep on pleasing your loyal fans.
Your team didn't even know you were popular in African countries like Nigeria, besides the country that you frequent , South Africa. You've always had fans in America. We knew. You and your team were the only ones who didn't know. Social media is now doing the job that your team should have done. You'd have long visited America , Nigeria and other countries.

As always, this was a great interview, Kyle. I discovered Westlife only recently on Spotify and now I listen to them often.

Mark made a great point about the Americans who are expats/immigrants (I am one) and grew up listening to their music elsewhere and brought it to america.. that's why their american base will always be strong.

And for me the old songs are classic. Nothing beats the classics. If Westlife could show up and don't sing the hits, I'd be very upset. That show wouldn't feel like Westlife at all. Their success was build on those hits. Those hits are what set them apart from other boybands

Mark is so diplomatic. He totally sidestepped the question about what took them so long to tour here in the US. He didn’t want to say “because the US radio stations REFUSED to play our music”, which is exactly what happened!! The US totally blacklisted Westlife and screwed us ALL over! SO glad they are finally getting their chance! 🇺🇸🎶🇮🇪

Pero la cometieron un error muy grande, nos perjudicaron a todos,nos privaron de ver a estos chicos talentosos y de hermosas voces.
Westlife hits are what set them apart from other boybands.
The honest truth they lost their identity in the new music . I am a loyal fan, but I know that we lost the classic Westlife. I miss it, to be honest. I miss everything about it.
They’ve lost their identity when Brian left the band in his own will, plus the very long hiatus is perhaps one of the causes of it as well.

11:32 Agreed with Shane. Throw them any songs they'll sing/arrange them in Westlife way. Look at their covers like Uptown Girl, I Have a Dream, Season in the Sun.. Perhaps this makes their covers so successful and some even thought they were the original singers. After listening to their covers, you'll probably forget how the original singers sang them. What u hear is just Westlife.
Mark is not a good speaker😂, he tries, but he's not a speaker. He fades away . Nicky, on the other hand, likes to dominate every conversation 😂😅😅. Shane always brings the conversation to diplomacy. Kian is always laid back but bold when he happens to speak.
Mark is a great speaker. They all are. It’s called having your own identity. 🤦♀️

I wasn’t a huge fan back in 1999. But in 2023, I’m in my Westlife era! I live in Las Vegas and think Caesar’s should host their residency here. These guys sell out stadiums in Europe and Asia. They would bring in more money than this entire F1 debacle!
