@Dr Rand Yeah the interviewer asked good questions about the position that got the players thinking, and their thought process about the game. Definitely an engaging convo. Well done to the interviewer.
@@jaceks6338 I mean that's one of those things that's a big deal in the moment but nothing once it's in the past. You can tell these two get along well so I doubt something like that would put a damper on anything.

Maybe I see too much into it, but for me one thing is to say "I thought that move wasn't perfect" another is saying "after the erroneous plan of Hikaru" right in front of the guy, and of course Hikaru later did the same thing to him. I think it's a bit about getting into the opponent's head as well, but as I said, I might be imagining it. Also when Levon teased him about not accepting the first draw offer "you thought I wasn't gonna play all the best moves?", I think they were trying to subtly intimidate the opponent all the interview, but maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

If you thought this game was exciting - standby. Super-GMs don't start busting out their top-secret been-working-on-this-for-years preparation until they're neck-deep in the finals of a tournament that they NEED to win. It's like Muhammad Ali isn't going to show off the 1-2 combo he's been practicing until he's in a title-fight. Bill Belichick isn't going to call the trick-play he's been keeping in his back-pocket if he's up by 2 touchdowns against the Jets in the regular season. He's saving that until it's 4th-and-9 in the playoffs. This is the stage of the tournament in which we get to see which player has something special cooked-up and which one is already expecting what's about to happen.
That was a subtle reply to Levon saying that Hikaru's Nh2 continuation was "erroneous." Nh2 was the move that Hikaru played that was the official "novelty" (the move that had never been played ever before in that position). Despite the move never having been played before in an actual game, both players (with the obvious assistance of modern engines) were clearly aware of Nh2 as a candidate idea in the position. Levon basically said: I don't think it's very good. And Hikaru said: with the help of computers, I can promise it's fine.
Know what would be nice? A board in the middle going over what they’re saying… a little editing but it would go far for us non photographic memory folks 🍻🍻
These two will make the candidates tournament and they will both finish one and two making Magnus not want to defend his title since he said he will only defend against other Alireza. Two favorites. But I think that if Levon can play his game he can win. This might be better match to watch then the recent world championship.
They still need to perform well in the next tournament regardless of their points here but being in the final helps a lot

yeah and so is Hikaru

Lot of mental games, both openly talked about the other playing inaccurate moves, but very respectful also
good observation
aronian started that game in this interview... nakamura was inclined to later counter... haha
I think they were just calling it how they saw it. The moves they pointed out were indeed inaccurate.
I dont think its mental games, to say you think you suddenly have improved chances you have to concede that the opponent has not played perfectly

It's human vs human, there's always a chance to win the game even it might seems like a draw. It's his choice, he doesn't care literally
He was white, so he must exhaust all possibilities to win before accepting the draw.
