Great video! I listen to worship music a lot, and one of my pet peeves is when people _leave_ the chord while following the lead. You used the word "contour", which fits perfectly. They follow the contour of the lead and forget (or ignore) the chord. In example of "Take it Easy" two part (the first time, when you're harmonizing with the higher part) is a great example. When you sang "Lighten up while you still can", the lead part goes up one note (from G to A) on the word "up". Many harmonizers will follow that and also go up one note (from C to D) instead of staying on C, which is within the chord. What I've found is that not everyone has the ear to sing harmony. 😉
Having done an extensive online course a few years ago, I gotta say you teach SUPERBLY. Excellent job! And great singing too! Up there with the stars:)
is it really true that a harmony must stick within the chord? I don't think so.. So long as it is within the same key, the harmony options are much greater than that I think.
The best tuition on vocal harmony
