If a company chooses not to listen to their customers, it’s because what the customer wants does not line up with the company’s beliefs or values. Every company wants to make money & Hourglass choosing to ignore women with deep complexions is INTENTIONAL. They know there’s a market out there & they are choosing to miss out on money because it doesn’t relate to their company’s values. This is INTENTIONAL.

I don’t understand Hourglass have foundation/concealer for deeper skin tones (showing them there is a market for ppl with deeper skin tones), but say forget it when it comes to other things in the range. You can’t make it make sense.

I wouldn’t blame the model because It was probably used on her, the pallets does seem to work when all three shades are mixed together for complexion as deep as her without looking ashy. But it’s not promoted to be used like that and this whole campaign and edited pics are stil deceiving. So either way shame on Hourglass

Look at other UA-camrs with deep skin tones. They look gorgeous using that palette. Just because this lady assumed it will not work for them, it doesn't mean so. People not knowing what they are talking about are just annoying. Dislike for the video. Please don't get me wrong - the hourglass ad is misleading from my perspective as they show the palette as it looks darker than in real life and say that the model in the ad would be able to use the darkest shade as a contouring powder which is ridiculous. But it does look beautiful on a deep skin tone too.

Hourglass has made a conscious decision to not be inclusive with some of their products. They also made a conscious decision to market some of their products in a misleading manner and this trio is not the first one. It is a pattern they have followed year in year out. I am not sure why we would expect them to do better 🤷🏾, they showed us one year after the other that they are not prepared to do that. They are exactly who they say they are.
Please feel free to talk about them if you feel it is relevant. Opening the conversation is always a great thing 😊,

Absolutely! Just this past holiday season, they launched the quad with deceptive promo photos that looked like it was deeper than it turned out to be. With all of the technology available, there's no excuse for photos to look so markedly different than the actual product which is why I'm sure they are deliberately doctored. HG was hoping to avoid an immediate backlash but it came anyway, just like this launch did. It infuriates me to no end when brands insist on treating consumers like we're stupid.

So, that model in the hourglass promo photo is jasmine tookes and that image was edited to make her look way darker. She is probably nc45. She’s got a UA-cam channel if you want to see her. I can’t imagine she would have known that the editing would be so misleading because the palette itself she could use as an nc45 person. Someone at hourglass must have taken it upon themselves to edit both her skin tone and the palette to make them look darker. This is just my theory, but yea the model is not as dark as she looks in the photo

We hit their ig page with comments, they ignored us (literally, liking EVERY comment except the ones on the subject of inclusivity) and now this farce. At this point it is mal intent. I just feel like a brand shouldn't be able to call itself cruelty free, when engaging in this type of behaviour towards fellow humans. Because good for them they love our furry friends, but just love all your fellow humans first...

This reminds me of the days when I had to use bronzers as highlighters because brands didn't feel the need to make things for deep and dark skin tones. Now hourglass is saying, "use our darkest bronzer as a finishing powder if you have dark skin!" ugh! It's incredibly frustrating and insulting. I'm glad you brought attention to this because I have seen plenty of comments on social media where people are still unaware that these are repeat shades so they were celebrating Hourglass finally listening. >.

They are owned by Unilever but HG is an American company, founded in California by Carisa Janes, an American. I read a Jan 2020 Marie Claire interview with her recently and just had to laugh at how out of touch she seems. She has personal trainers, manicurists, hairstylists and makeup artists come to her house multiple times a week to make sure she's always "done"; and she has a Miele Nespresso machine built into the wall of her bedroom so she can have coffee 5 min after waking up. She refuses to leave her house without full hair and makeup and says she spends most of her day on design and marketing, the latter of which tells me that she's not personally focusing on things like shade ranges and consumer feedback. Unfortunately, even in 2021, many luxury brands continue act like their target demographic is still older white women with disposable income, which is not only ridiculously out of touch but just plain stupid. Even though many brands have moved into the 21st century, the majority of luxury brands like Guerlain, Dior, YSL, Laura Mercier, La Mer, Chantecaille, Sisley and Chanel are still dragging their feet. We see occasional glimmers of hope from them but not fully or done well. Sorry for the long comment lol! Thank you for attending my Ted Talk!

@@Cara-39 that is true but will not hurt to let the parent company Unilever aware that the brand is lacking inclusivity especially if lots of influencers & their followers start speaking up I am sure Ms.Janes will not be happy . I am a dark skin woman & in all honestly it does not bother me if a company does not think of me there are so many brands luxury & high ends & even as they call it the drug store brands that are inclusive enough & sometimes they exaggerate in their inclusivity to the point it gets so confusing . I think of it as Hourglass is the loser not me I’ll spend my money somewhere else .

@@maryabdel-malik656 I fully agree that Unilever should be on the receiving end of complaints abt this issue. As someone that's vampire pale, I know how difficult is it to find products, especially base products, that work; I spent most of the 90s looking like an oompa loompa whenever I needed to wear makeup because no brand had anything close to a shade match for me, it's probably why I became a connoisseur of mascara 😄 I've stopped supporting brands that refuse to be inclusive because, just as you said, there are plenty now that are...including some that cater to those of us with skintone like the undead 😉

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! So many creators don’t mention this problem or recognize it’s a problem but still rave about some of their products. It’s really not okay. As a consumer I don’t buy anything from this brand, but if content creators are going to decide to purchase and review these products they need to do it in this way, clearly stating the problems. Thank you so much.

Charlotte I am so thankful that you did this video. As a dark skin girl who happened to always look for a release from hourglass I quite frankly have stopped looking to them to have something for me. I have their primer and that’s it. I know they don’t care and they are not interested in me. If hourglass can release two palettes in one year and none for a dark skin person then the messaging is obvious. How long have dark skin ppl existed? We are not new to the universe so the idea of inclusivity baffles me. I live on a Caribbean island where “every creed and race find an equal place.” It’s our motto. We are a mix of different races, so I cannot with this ineptness.

Wow Hourglass - so very disappointed. I just can’t fathom why on earth such a large & successful company is SO very clearly reluctant to increase/expand their shade range to be more inclusive. Really I would seriously like them to answer that question.....
And they 100% purposefully mislead people with that ad campaign as if they believe we are not very bright - it was also incredibly insulting to people with deeper skin tones - it was/is disgusting.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention 🙏❤️💕

I am 100% in favor of us as consumers stop giving them our money ... that is the only way companies understand they have to change ... when money stop coming in. Always speak out! Sad part....? Even if Hourglass, after a significant loss of revenue, decided to improve, I would find their motives suspect. It would be about money, not a desire to improve. As far as I'm concerned, they have shown us their 'real' face and I can't unsee it.
