    Synopsis | The Facebook Gangster (2021)
    For investigative reporter Nick McKenzie, this story is the result of a decade of work. It's the hunt for Australia's most wanted criminal, a rat-cunning, ruthless gangster who has made an eye-watering fortune importing massive quantities of drugs into Australia. Law enforcement authorities call the criminal network he helps to operate "The Aussie Cartel", but now, after years on the run outwitting the cops, his arrogance could be about to lead to his downfall. By linking top-secret intelligence with multiple online clues - including some of this man's remarkably careless Facebook and Instagram activity - McKenzie has discovered the location of the crook's secret hideout.

    for those who are 'international law illiterate': the reporter called him in his hotel was a mistake (basically you tipped him off). He immediately renounced his Australian citizenship AFTER the call. So now it's difficult to extradite him, and so, most likely he will sell the hotel and change his name again.

      I thought the same thing. So just for the ratings and a one-off piece, that few (in the grand scheme of things) saw I don't think it was worth it. Don't get me wrong it wasn't a bad piece, but putting aside the danger such an act put the journalist in, if half of what is alleged in this piece is true, then 60 Minutes and the journalist quite possibly tipped this man off. Hakan may never be seen again or at very least it will be the last chance for the authorities to catch this man for a long time and it will cost Australia millions of dollars to find his whereabouts now.
      Hakan may of been comfortable and at ease, possibly even starting to let his guard down, what do you think he is doing right now? It is irresponsible that for the sake of ratings, more Australians will die from the drugs that are being imported, not including outlying crime that will continue because of their trade. If the journalist thinks he will be safe when he returns to Australia, then he didn't learn anything from his investigation, he just painted a target on his back. I am in no way saying the journalist shouldn't of investigated, but calling him... that is another level of stupid that isn't often witnessed.

Especially the commercial fishing industry. They would be still doing it in NSW and S.A and other commercial sites. I found out by a girlfriend 40yrs ago. I had no idea. 😅. Everything is corrupt. Wrong!! There's evidence of cocaine use going back 1000s and 1000s of yrs. People want to not feel what they're feeling and to feel good and celebrate together. You're not going to stop the human brain from being human. The problem is the attempted prohibition of drugs. How much do you pay for aspirin or even alcohol?! It's Pretty cheap because it's legal and regulated and taxed. It's prohibition that drives the price skyhigh and brings the violence associated with drugs . Fact is if they're legal millions of street thugs, producers, corner dealers, all the way up the ranks of the Cartels are all out of business overnight. Think about it

    The main problem for law enforcement in Australia is that they are not as tough in their character and laws as the Americans . This guy is not at all smart and the question is whether there is an extradition treaty between Australia and Turkey . And even if he can't be removed from there in a clandestine way like the Mossad Intelligence Agency does . The key question is : how much do they want to get it and whether it has strong support from the Prime Minister of Australia?

    Even if they catch him the Australian Courts will say he is mentally challenged. If he gets caught he will get out the same day with his lawyer. Even murderers get away in 2 years in Aussie. All that police work will be in vain just like how these teenagers get away with car theft. One think I can say clearly is that If this man is caught in Singapore/Saudi Arabia /Qatar doing the same that will be his end. Those countries will do a better job than AFP or Australian Court.

    Looks like this man really understands capitalism. He's worked hard, he understands the market, he meets supply and demand, clearly he is good with people. I see him a successful businessman. If Australia legalized all drugs and instead, treated it like a medical issue, this man would not be making any money. The real mastermind is Australia's very outdated drug prohibitions.

      @BrettMoore66 6 місяців тому

      @@chrisdaldy-rowe4978 You conveniently leave out my entire argument. You and powders, lets forget about the real problem, real crimes, real criminals. Prohibition has never worked, and will never work. All it does is create entire industries for private prisons. Do you know how much money the "commonwealth" spends on just cannabis prosecutions a year ? Over $4 billion. Do you know how long prohibition has been running ? Over 100 years. What evidence is there that drugs are bad ? What evidence exists to show that the erosion of society, the increase in stressors, the lack of education, the destruction of the entire middle class... that is your problem. It is a social problem a health problem but it is categorically not a criminal problem. A criminal problem by wealthy and powerful people created the entire situation and sustains it.
