Synopsis | The Facebook Gangster (2021)
For investigative reporter Nick McKenzie, this story is the result of a decade of work. It's the hunt for Australia's most wanted criminal, a rat-cunning, ruthless gangster who has made an eye-watering fortune importing massive quantities of drugs into Australia. Law enforcement authorities call the criminal network he helps to operate "The Aussie Cartel", but now, after years on the run outwitting the cops, his arrogance could be about to lead to his downfall. By linking top-secret intelligence with multiple online clues - including some of this man's remarkably careless Facebook and Instagram activity - McKenzie has discovered the location of the crook's secret hideout.

ABOUT 60 Minutes Australia
For over forty years, 60 Minutes Australia have been telling Australians the world’s greatest stories. Tales that changed history, our nation and our lives. Reporters Liz Hayes, Tom Steinfort, Tara Brown, Nick McKenzie and Amelia Adams look past the headlines because there is always a bigger picture. Sundays are for 60 Minutes Australia.

These guys aren't that different to politicians.
Probably a better moral compass
I honestly can't say which is Oilier than the other..
Both people slippery and Slimey..
Don't forget the judicial system and law enforcement. There are no large success stories in the underworld without the participation of those entities.
These guys and politicians aren't nothing compared to Johnson and Johnson, Pfizer, Bayer... Providers for Oxytocin and more... These are the real Narcos!
Yep both maggots
Brilliant 60 minutes... do all that work to find him then leave a voicemail at the hotel basically just giving him a heads up that you found him. You should have told the cops and let them arrest him
Lol 60 mins didn't do shit to find him.. the blokes been posting photos on Facebook of him at that hotel for an eternity now
for those who are 'international law illiterate': the reporter called him in his hotel was a mistake (basically you tipped him off). He immediately renounced his Australian citizenship AFTER the call. So now it's difficult to extradite him, and so, most likely he will sell the hotel and change his name again.
I thought the same thing. So just for the ratings and a one-off piece, that few (in the grand scheme of things) saw I don't think it was worth it. Don't get me wrong it wasn't a bad piece, but putting aside the danger such an act put the journalist in, if half of what is alleged in this piece is true, then 60 Minutes and the journalist quite possibly tipped this man off. Hakan may never be seen again or at very least it will be the last chance for the authorities to catch this man for a long time and it will cost Australia millions of dollars to find his whereabouts now.
Hakan may of been comfortable and at ease, possibly even starting to let his guard down, what do you think he is doing right now? It is irresponsible that for the sake of ratings, more Australians will die from the drugs that are being imported, not including outlying crime that will continue because of their trade. If the journalist thinks he will be safe when he returns to Australia, then he didn't learn anything from his investigation, he just painted a target on his back. I am in no way saying the journalist shouldn't of investigated, but calling him... that is another level of stupid that isn't often witnessed.
@@Sir_Furry_Quokkalot ... lol ... nice profile name
That's absolutely hilarious
This reporter hindered a massive police investigation
I'm lmfao
How stupid is 60 minutes
Well done you absolutel tool of an investigative journalists

It was really stupid.
Damn ... now Hakan will watch this documentary and plan his next move 😂😂 ... silly
He got arrested a month ago
The way he’s pronouncing “Australia” is doing my head in.
Yes!!!!! It’s doing my head in 🤦🏽♀️🙄
Me too! It’s weird
It was drilling me! "Austrellia"
I personally think we should do what these cartels don't want and legalize all drugs and require them to be made safely.
First common sense comment I've seen yet👏
I'm 70 and have been saying this for 40yrs. The system is too corrupt all over the world. Not just Australia. Boats, small submarines and so forth are being used. Especially the commercial fishing industry. They would be still doing it in NSW and S.A and other commercial sites. I found out by a girlfriend 40yrs ago. I had no idea. 😅. Everything is corrupt. Everything. 😊
Legalise and tax.
Ahh good old OZs open immigration policy a few years ago is really paying dividends nowdays🤦🏼♂️
We built sydney what are you going to do about it
Bring Hanson back, please xplain !
@@EddyG-wl8ezyour people built a stereotype based around creating problems then running not liking women, not such high achievers considering it’s only available to your people because of pre-established white people allowing you here..
You’re saying that if the immigration policy were more strict or fully closed that the drug problem would not exist?
@@_HMCB_ no I’m saying everyone on this channel is named hamed or Taraq🤔
What is sad about people like him or any drug cartel around the world if there were no demand for these drugs, they would not be in business. That is the problem I believe,
I’ve heard this argument for decades. My question to you is: Why is there the demand?
Wrong!! There's evidence of cocaine use going back 1000s and 1000s of yrs. People want to not feel what they're feeling and to feel good and celebrate together. You're not going to stop the human brain from being human. The problem is the attempted prohibition of drugs. How much do you pay for aspirin or even alcohol?! It's Pretty cheap because it's legal and regulated and taxed. It's prohibition that drives the price skyhigh and brings the violence associated with drugs . Fact is if they're legal millions of street thugs, producers, corner dealers, all the way up the ranks of the Cartels are all out of business overnight. Think about it
u are just a junkie
@@_HMCB_because drugs are fun it's a majority of drug users that ruin it for everyone else because they abuse them and skitz out or die
And yeah nahh there will always be demand for drugs whether legal or not there will always be a black market demand
What does the Australian Government expect when they open the immigration floodgates and continue to Ignore the housing crises.
Hello watching from Philippines.Thank you for another new video😊.Godbless🙏
Some said, Hakans Passport foto was also half naked 😆
Hard work and commitment to getting crooks does pay off
Government buildings big banks that's where the biggest crooks are lol.
So Nick makes the guy he's interviewing seem like an incompetent official. Haha.
I don’t like drugs and love the work the government does with this side of things but also what about all the criminals in power screwing up our lovely country
AND, they thought, "Chopper" Read was bad..lol
Neville fakking bartos broo
The main problem for law enforcement in Australia is that they are not as tough in their character and laws as the Americans . This guy is not at all smart and the question is whether there is an extradition treaty between Australia and Turkey . And even if he can't be removed from there in a clandestine way like the Mossad Intelligence Agency does . The key question is : how much do they want to get it and whether it has strong support from the Prime Minister of Australia?
I think he isn’t an Aussie anymore so therefore extradition isn’t an option *legally.
This is pure entertainment. If the powers that be wanted to stop this, they could do it in a day. But they don’t.
@johnperic3765 he means governments that are complicit.
Why would they mind the restless occupied getting high? You want them sober, miserable and protesting how bad life sucks?
The reason they're after him in the first place is because he's stealing their market. The police and government are running the drugs into Australia
They’re just concerned about their ‘envelopes’ being light.
It’s not as easy as there they are, lock them up. 🙄
@obtuseangler768 do you think being high on meth is the solution 😂. Maybe you are supportive of people getting high on meth who does tons of crimes. The biggest bust was meth dude. Meth is the worst drug anyone can take and won't do anything good to anyone other than ruin people's lives
'celebrity gangster' is an oxymoron
Indeed. I believe "Notorious Gangster" is the traditional phrase.
@@Rachel_M_ I'm sure it's carefully considered wording. They're trying to put him down by using the word 'celebrity' - he would consider the word 'notorious' to be a compliment.
so no gangster has ever been famous? idiot
fantastic ending,….I know who you are….couldn’t expect any better
When are these people going to learn that if you lead that kind of life you stay off social media and you never use a cell phone.
I hope that you nail this case. Too many taking them in the world imo
Why would a television show ring and alert these people Why not hand it over to the man in the interview and let him do his job? Seriously you had him warned him and let him get away That is stupid don't you think?
yeah it seemed completely idiotic to me to leave a voicemail at the hotel basically just giving him a heads up that they found him
Money would have been the reason for this. All these people would be getting a cut
Wow and for 13 years he was doing this on Facebook and only after 13 years. Our police intercepted sounds a bit funny. Don’t you think we’re pretty is getting away with it when the cops help out he was protected by who?
I don’t know. I’ll come from Facebook they reckon.
lol
Hehehe.they got to tell everyone how good they are..
Let’s be honest, if he supplies drugs then he’s a friend of Australia, because Aussies love recreational drugs, it’s time to decriminalise this farce already.
Isn't it a little strange with advancement in surveillance systems that, the cops, the federal police, can't catch the mafias in Australia, many with multi million dollar properties.
Corruption must be rife😢
I prefer this kind of crook to say crooked politicians or crooked cops who seem to be everywhere. These people have never done any harm to me. Politicians and cops - they've done plenty
they havent harmed you personally so its all good?
@@Jackson-pu7gd at least they are what they say they are and for that I respect them
How do you think they’re able too make that much money .. why because the government work alongside them lmaoo 😂
Easy solution; revoke dual citizenship.
You're either Aussie or you're not.
What's that phone called at about 8 minutes in? I just can't seem to make it out? (Im a bit hard of hearing)...
CIPHER PHONE
Why can’t they work with Turkey law enforcement and bring this drug lord in?
Turkey works with no one, they wont even condemn nor stop russia passing through istanbul to invade ukraine.
Because everyone is paid off, nothing new really.
Corrupt cops are always in on it
Why can't the average person have the right to buy an untraceable encrypted phones?
Tip of the ICEberg Trade
They need to do something about the illegal tobacco trade. So many shops selling illegal tobacco $25 for 100grams legal tobacco from Woolworths 25grams I pay is $58
sounds like the problem is with the legal tobacco, and i dont smoke anymore but from memory the black market tabbacco always tasted like it had less chemicals in it
The price to smoke there is insane! I'd get it from the black market too
Yeah I've started smoking the illegal stuff the tobacconist in my local area sells Marlboro reds for 15 dollars each or a carton of 10 for 120 coz yeah it's absolutely disgusting how much we have to pay for smokes here
They lov the juice too these crims😂😂
How about an apology to peter shiff for defaming him?

What a World you’re building … Enjoy. 👍
Wondering if these drug lords are watching this video and smiling as they say, " catch me if u can".
As I see it if there wasnt a demand for these drugs, the trade would dry up and if these crims dont supply it, others will fill the gap.
A lot of families have suffered due its members use of these hard core drugs.
lol that reporter is funny.. sees a bald man, a heavy set no face at all "that IS 100 percent Ayik 😂😂😂 literally a 100 million people that look like that
“Looks like all the other middle eastern crooks” is such a wild thing to say casually 😅change it with blacks
Ok, so I think this every time I see him, but John Sylvester looks exactly like James Clapper who is the former US Director of National Intelligence.
Clapper was at the head of one of the intel agencies targeting Trump. We know now all those Intel agency bosses were on the take. There was no Russian collusion.
Crooks dressed in suits working for Intel agencies can be much more dangerous then these drug lords dressed in singlets.
Sniffin white lines is Australia.
Almost had me but for one. point but if he has changed his name - he real name is his new name
10:37 “baddest”😂😂😂 is this another Aussie English for “worst”? Or is this a meme? (I knew of “badder” for the sake of rhyme)
Why don’t you do a story on the AFP dogs that are facilitating and perpetuating the drug trade.
😂, James packer ? Is the biggest drug importer ,isnt it?
Hide and seek champion
It's great that our immigration policy favours persons from the Middle East and Africa. What would our police forces do if we took immigrants from law abiding countries such as India and other countries in South-East Asia? It's a definite "WIN" for the criminals who seek to disrupt our society as well as the public servant police officers who wouldn't have a job otherwise.
Seeing as you've classified every middle-eastern person as a criminal; what would you say to someone proposing, given your advice, that every indian is a dirty, unhygienic street-defecator?
Are you serious 😂
@@omarkattab I was making a point that OP has biases as obviously prominent as the ones held by others opposing theirs; not promoting my own thoughts.
"Law abiding countries" hahahaha there's no such thing. People commit crimes in every country on the planet and the biggest crooks sit in government offices all over the globe. Get a grip son
Right just like Europeans did to societies and cultures already living on the land aye. What goes around comes around white people always cry wolf but completely forget about all they've done to lands the land they don't come from.

What a joke!!….we all know that for every bust there are 20 shipments that get through…..why bother!?

What an utterly stupid thing to say? Should law enforcement not try to arrest pedophiles or murderers or any other criminal because they can’t get them all. I hope your aren’t in any position to do that. Your pessimism is scary and dangerous.
@@northerngirl4666 not as utterly stupid as you totally missing the point..
He was always Australia’s most wanted he also was handing out anon phones for them.
Even if they catch him the Australian Courts will say he is mentally challenged. If he gets caught he will get out the same day with his lawyer. Even murderers get away in 2 years in Aussie. All that police work will be in vain just like how these teenagers get away with car theft. One think I can say clearly is that If this man is caught in Singapore/Saudi Arabia /Qatar doing the same that will be his end. Those countries will do a better job than AFP or Australian Court.
@@Dirtmcgirt22reading comprehension is key.
You're kidding...2 years. I got 2 years for having an argument - no assault
Which murderers have been released in two years? Facts please
Looks like this man really understands capitalism. He's worked hard, he understands the market, he meets supply and demand, clearly he is good with people. I see him a successful businessman. If Australia legalized all drugs and instead, treated it like a medical issue, this man would not be making any money. The real mastermind is Australia's very outdated drug prohibitions.
Yeah nah
@@Areola-Grande Poor argument Try again!
Criminals apologist
@Brett not ALL drugs just weed m8 the mixed powders are the problem.Straight cocaine is fine...keep cutting it with who knows what & its crap.Abuse any drug & you get what you give to it.
@@chrisdaldy-rowe4978 You conveniently leave out my entire argument. You and powders, lets forget about the real problem, real crimes, real criminals. Prohibition has never worked, and will never work. All it does is create entire industries for private prisons. Do you know how much money the "commonwealth" spends on just cannabis prosecutions a year ? Over $4 billion. Do you know how long prohibition has been running ? Over 100 years. What evidence is there that drugs are bad ? What evidence exists to show that the erosion of society, the increase in stressors, the lack of education, the destruction of the entire middle class... that is your problem. It is a social problem a health problem but it is categorically not a criminal problem. A criminal problem by wealthy and powerful people created the entire situation and sustains it.
