Great stuff! As someone with a family history of cancer I wish more people talked about the phytoestrogen in soy and how it reduces cancer risk vs the estrogen in dairy with increases cancer risk. Thanks for posting

The UK recommendation for calcium is 700 mg but the US is 1200. Has the dairy industry in the US influenced the amount?

According to an article from Harvard Medical School, "Because bone density drops when bone breakdown outpaces bone formation, scientists reasoned that maintaining an adequate level of calcium in the blood could keep the body from drawing it out of the bones. In the late 1970s, a couple of brief studies indicated that consuming 1,200 mg of calcium a day could preserve a postmenopausal woman's calcium balance.
Based on those studies, in 1997 an Institute of Medicine panel raised the recommendation for calcium intake from 800 mg to 1,200 mg a day for women over 50. However, the recommendation was based on calcium balance studies that lasted just a few weeks. In fact, calcium balance should be determined over a much longer time period. Moreover, there isn’t sufficient evidence that consuming that much calcium actually prevents fractures. Nonetheless, the recommendation has been carried forward since then. " However more recent studies do suggest that if you can get at least 700 mg of calcium from food, that should be enough.

Chia seeds are a good source of calcium, about the same as tahini.

Thank you for giving us the inside on these foods. I wondered how much calcium would be in a serving like that.

Spinach is not a good source of calcium as it binds with the oxalate in the spinach and is not digested..
Also it needs to be tofu set with a calcium rather than nigari which is magnesium based. Be sure to Check the packet!

2:40 Interesting point about the plants getting their minerals from the soil, why don't vegans just eat soil as it has all the elements for health since the plants get it from there?

It depends whether you can use the calcium from plants or not.
There are many plant chemicals that stop us from absorbing and using the calcium in plants, see oxalates for just one example.
I use a carnivore diet for the best nutrition.

@@scrane5500 I don't worry about anything you listed except the pesticides. Ruminant animals do eat some plants with pesticides but I'm hoping that most can be destroyed by the bacteria in the animal's stomach.
Plants are sprayed directly with pesticides anyway and most plants absorb it so it can not be washed off most of the time.
I would rather have the pesticides filtered twice than only once.

There is absolutely no need for fiber in a human diet, all it does is block the absorption of minerals that we actually do need and our digestive system does not break it down or absorb it.
Some bacteria in our large intestine may have a go at the fiber but we don't absorb much from the large intestine anyway and are more likely to develop SIBO when we cultivate large bacteria farms.
Cows have 5 different stomach chambers to cultivate the bacteria needed to break down the fiber!
