Hi Mr Darcy, I had a test ride three weeks ago, to add I have an interceptor which I've owned for 2 months. The BSA is a nice ride, I took it down my usual route which is country roads and a few fast b roads, it did bounce me out of the seat which my Enfield hasn't done, (the shop may off set the preload a little too stiff) the engine I found quite torquey however no more than the Enfield. What I didn't like about the engine was the knock from the counter balance shaft it sounds like the big end is knocking also a little snatchy off and on throttle when warmed up. The gear shift is a little slack when changing down from 2nd to first, feels like it's not quite home, strange. G'day, nice vlog, just come across whilst checking out other Goldie vlogs. It is now 00:40hrs on the 3rd Aug 2024. My new Goldie is being delivered at 10:00hrs in the morning. Can't wait, before buying it I tested the RE Inter, nice bike, and ride, but the Goldie, engine edged it for and build quality., 9 more hours and there will another happy biker back on the road.Ciao. The consensus seems to be that the bike makes you feel good riding it and surely that is one of the most important things, which comes across. It’s going to be one of those dark horses that will come up on the inside and will grab sales and j get the feeling owners will be very happy. There are plans I believe for a more powerful version. Nice review.

I really like it ...Good review as usual ..just thinking about nobody does a big single roadster nowadays they all have to be ...off road ..looking ..but this is a pure roadster ...looking forward to trying one next year
It’s a pity that you haven’t ridden the RE Interceptor. Would love to hear the opinion of some reliable people. Although for me it’s already too late. I recently sold my 2000 Fat Boy and bought an Interceptor. I made a test ride on an Interceptor back in September. I was smiling during the whole ride on it (similar to the feelings you described that you had on the BSA). I was somehow more happier riding the Interceptor than I ever was while riding my Harley. So I had to do something. Unfortunately the weather here in northern Germany is not the best these days. I can hardly wait for a bit better weather. I’m wishing you and the Ol’ Man all the best and a good start to 2023. 🤘🙂
Nice review, glad you didn’t bother mentioning BSA history as it’s irrelevant to this new startup company. What we have is a really nice looking retro styled bike and we are lucky at the moment to have quite a lot of choice in this sector, I would certainly consider having one.
I'm hoping the best for the new BSA GS. I sold my Road King about a year ago to get a boat. I live in a small coastal town, an hour 1/2 or so, north of wellington, New Zealand. Miss the bike like crazy. However, having just hit the big 60, I've been eyeing up the RE Interceptor. Price point is spot on. Local dealer in Palmerston North, has a sunset strip colour coming in, in the next couple of weeks. Love the ease with which you can customise these bikes. Aesthetically, the BSA has me tingly all over. Just love it. And a big single, well... nuff said. It's not likely to land here anytime soon, so my hit of retro is sorted. When it does land, I see having both these bikes in my shed. It's a shame the pandemic hit. There's no doubt has affected the launch of the BSA. Thanks for the review, and all the best for the New Year.
This bike really appeals to me in many ways. I particularly like the single cylinder engine. What brings me pause? My number one criteria for any motorcycle is for it to be kind to my ass.
You can see where the royal enfield made savings BSA spent and where enfield spent BSA saved. I love the looks of both and can't really decide between the two so it will come down to waiting on more long term reviews on the BSA. I currently have 3 bikes one of which is a himalayan. I have been thinking of a classic style bike but BSA took a long time to launch and of course we have the new cruiser 650 from enfield with talk of a classic 650. So might have to wait for those before making my decision. Great review. As you said anything you find cheap on the bike can be swapped out.
The 650 scram looks so promising and spied mule test bikes seem to have improved all the Interceptor weaknesses (seat, shocks, fork...) I know both the Interceptor and Himalayan and I cannot stop thinking that the Interceptor feels a little bit more well put together than the Himalayan (paint quality, chromes, exhaust quality...)
@@mototomcambodia definitely the himalayan is built to budget and requires a good wash and coating of acf50 before putting in the garage. I use it all winter and any bike riding in winter needs looking after. Welds, fit and finish are OK not brilliant but great wee bike to own especially if you can tinker and service yourself. Good beginners machine too. I love too many bikes to own them all unless my numbers come up.
Love it! Very good looking "stock" exhaust, the sound is good as well. I think at the price point it will be a performer. I certainly hope this new BSA company does well. I have a place in my heart for British bikes. Be happy, be safe
you guys are really lucky to enjoy these bikes in perfect locations. In India you have bumper-to-bumper traffic which makes riding theses bikes a major pain and you dont get to enjoy the thrill that these bikes give....love the looks of this bike and yes i hate those hideous plastic monstrosities that go as "crotch rockets"....always loved the analogue dials
I dont think so there are plenty of places for bikers to ride fast here in india.these guys too dont fly on these bikes in traffic areas. This is a country backroad
Having previously had some gripes about a few visual features, I'm seeing this bike in a different light here, liking it more. Although I do still prefer the intercepter.
Great review as always and personally I think the highland green is the best colour and luckily it’s the cheapest,if I was to replace my bike this would feature highly on my list of bikes I would purchase.
That's beautiful. Under £7000 and a decent 650. Sounds great too. A little quieter than I expected, though that's not a bad thing. 😭 Need a bigger bike 😭 All good though. Once those coins are saved it makes it so much more worth it. Work hard play harder! Have a great New Year Mr Darcy, drive safe buddy.
I would love to see a video of yours on the Kawasaki VULCAN S 650. Me and the old man have the same height, and I'm thinking that may be a good first bike for me. Cheers, happy 2023.
My view is that the new Gold Star is a beautiful recreation of a classic bike, and I'm really glad that those things exist for the people that want them, (although it may be a few months before you'd be able to buy one) but if it were my money, I would be getting the new Honda Hornet, which in my opinion is a far better motorcycle for about the same money. I used to own BSA Starfire nearly fifty years ago, and I don't know what you were getting at with BSA but my guess is Bloody Sore Ass, although I didn't find my Starfire particularly uncomfortable.
Finally got around to a test ride, tbh it was better than I expected, a bit sluggish up to 40 but once it’s got it’s weight moving it’s quite stompy, feels more like 60bhp than 45, handling very nice until you really push it hard, then it wallow’s, mainly due to the rear suspension being way too soft, overall though an enjoyable bike 👍
Great review. I had a good look at one in our local dealer, and will definitely get a test ride when the weather is better. As you say, very comparable to the Enfields in terms of finish. I love a big single, so I'd be very tempted by this if I was looking to buy a good value retro. One thing that really stood out as disappointing is that the BSA logos on the engine and filler cap are decals. They look incredibly tacky and will probably rub off quickly. BSA really need to emboss the logo on future models. I agree with your comment on the USB location on Triumphs. I have a Street Scrambler and I haven't used the USB socket once because it's just a faff.
Lovely. I love big singles since they're big, lazy thumpers like me. The only thing I regret is that they couldn't make the horsepower without putting a radiator on it. Maybe the aftermarket can make one that blends into the lines of the cradle a bit better, but that's a minor complaint.
BSA, Jawa and Yezdi all these brands are owned by Classic Legends, an Indian company which in turn is owned by Mahindra and Mahindra. I own a Yezdi Roadster and they are planning to build Yezdi Roadking 650 so I am pretty sure we will be getting this same engine. Also, I wonder how the tractability of this bike is going to be?🤔
5:21 'Bloody Sore Arse'?... at any rate, stunning looks, and the definite proof you don't have to be a young man over fifty to like bikes with a classic look. 😋 Anyway, great review of a great bike. Cheers.
Nicely done. I think if BSA get their finger out and make these bikes readily available with decent dealers and backup then they are gonna sell bucket loads. It’s all for the taking…..
I think it's a beautiful classic motorbike, well done! It actually has me thinking what if RE brought back the larger Classic but instead of a new 500 or a 650 twin they did a new air cooled Classic 650 Single???🤔 THAT I think would a complete game changer especially with bikes like this new BSA
That seat isn't so bad fella ! I learned to ride on a 1953 BSA A7 500cc Star Twin I bought in 1973 from my mate Simon Evans, here in Burry Port, for £10. It had no silencers and absolutely no seat padding, just the metal base and had pulled a sidecar for 20 years beforehand.
Nice review. Love that color and general look of the bike. Nice to see a traditional splash guard up front to keep debris out of the radiator. Not keen on the radiator but with emission controls it’s inevitable.
Great review Mr Darcy. I would LOVE this BSA but as far as I know they aren’t being imported into New Zealand. They are probably the most classic looking British bike, alongside the Triumph T120, being produced this century. If anyone knows anything about their NZ import status please reply!! Cheers to all BSA nuts out there!😊🎉
Nice review, I am still surprised that no one else has picked up on how low the BSA feels. When I did my ride, it was the first thing I noticed when I threw my leg over it. For that, it feels more like my Classic 350 than my Interceptor 650. Ride and handling felt great though, but did “white line” noticeably more than the Interceptor, even though they both have the same tyres. Maybe it is down to the more relaxed geometry on the BSA. Enjoyed this review.
@@timsnaden8937 I don't think it is, I saw that review so I went to take a look for myself and although you can see some common shared parts such as the indicators the frame is definitely substantially different with the BSA frame having quite a pronounce gooseneck up to the headstock and the rear footpeg hanger loops are definitely different too. I dare say that like most companies they did raid the parts bin but also the suspension is different with the Jawa having what looks like cheap chinese fake gas shocks I believe the units on the BSA are Gabriel not a premium brand but one that has at least been around for quite some time. I haven't ridden one yet but I have looked at one in my local dealer and I was quite impressed with the overall quality for the price.
@@timsnaden8937 The Jawa is currently a much smaller engine...they would need to create a substantial frame for this 650 single! So i dont think it would be the same
I own a Jawa Classic, and after viewing this bike in the videos, I don’t think both the bikes share a lot of parts between them. And FYI, Jawa also have the Gabriel shockers. They are not tuned very well. The back shockers are very stiff and they make the ride very bumpy.
As a retro and Harley nerd, I cannot quite look past it being liquid cooled (as is also the case with new Triumph classics). On that merit alone the Royal Enfield would be my choice between the two.
Very nice review Mr Darcy, and how refreshing not to have to listen to any swearing or childish innuendos. I love the look of the bike overall, I'm just a little disppointed in the cockpit. It all looks a bit cheap and does not replicate all the lovely chrome of the original. I guess it's built to a price with BSA gun stickers rather than etched motiffs, and painted engine casings as opposed to more plush aluminium etc. Overall all though, I think it's a lovely bike and I hope it does well.
Round headlights matter. The concept of vehicle design that indicates what direction it's meant to travel is becoming rarer and rarer in the 21st century. Good review, thank you.
I love the retro bikes even though my daily riders are mostly actual vintage bikes from the 70s . What would be cool is a Retro using the Honda XR650L motor or the Kawasaki KLR650. There was a guy here in the States building Norton Manx type frames for the KLR650 motors
Great review, you highlighted some really good points but I think I’ll keep my pointy plastic thing until the Gold star has proved itself. It’s a pity the header pipe isn’t swept back like the original.
@@NeilIves Fair point, it’s a shame they couldn’t work around it somehow but, you never know, a de-cat modification may make an appearance and allow a modified pipe to be fitted.
Interesting reviews a few omissions though I just wish they had put centre stand lugs on it absolutely a none starter for me without one to not even have a provision for one is a total miss for those of us that ride daily an might need to whip a wheel out at the side of the road, the stickers on the engine are a let down, I personally wasn't mad on the grips or the switchgear when I saw it at motorcycle live, few nice touches on it though, but I keep hearing off grumbling regarding the handling, with regards to the brakes riding a 67 Norton 650ss as a daily rider with a Commando twin leading shoe on it, stops on a sixpence so it irks me when alot of the modern classics seem to be lacking in the stopping, performance and handling department. Be interesting to see some more real world ownership reviews when they start to come out.
I’m 24 years old, so pretty much same age, and I also dislike these plastic spaceships haha. I plan on getting my A2 license this year (no previous experience) and still hesitate between the Interceptor, the Meteor or a moto Guzzi v7 but BSA might just be also on the list now :D (my grandfather actually rode a BSA back in the 50s)
Thanks for the excellent review of a very nice bike. Hopefully BSA manages to set up a decent service network otherwise they will not be able to compete with RE. Good to have another "retro" choice on the market.
I've heard that these cannot be fitted with a centre stand as there is no mounting points for one. Kinda disappointing for a chain driven bike of this style. I use it all the time on my Interceptor for cleaning the chain, filling the tank fully etc.
I'd agree, it's let down by lots of little things here and there on the bike, the dealer network is new and still growing, the bike has no immediate history, so is untested for the build quality, and it's very similar to the Jawa forty-two, take a look!
I'd still choose a Bonnie, as I would've back in the day. T120 60/gallon and twin discs when you feel like 'ragging it'! 😄 All-day comfort 2-up and motorway/touring-worthy.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Had wondered f that might be the case but not sure that I've noticed it on any other bike reviews, was good to see you using the roads around Santa Pod, visit there quite often
I ride a 2007 Triumph Scrambler so I understand pork and underpowered. I also ride a motarded Suzuki DR650 so I understand light and lively. While the BSA Gold Star is a beautiful machine and probably fun to plonk around on I'm not on board with the engineering. If much fuss is to be made about it being based on the original Gold Star, maybe the Gixxer of it's day, then to be true it should weigh and perform closer to a KTM690. Maybe not exactly like a KTM690 but further along the spectrum toward "performance". As is it doesn't make a lot of sense, only if it was very inexpensive. Too bad because I do like looking at it.
The bike is beautiful and in my eyes it is a decent product however since many people say that the price should be lower than the Royal Enfield I would like to ask you to test the 3 cheapest 650cc classic bikes on the market to see if in fact we are paying too much money for bikes that are basically ideal for cruising at 80 or 100 kmph. Please make a comparison between Mash SixHundred, BSA GoldStar and Royal Interceptor

Seems you have zeroed in on what is important to you, good on you.
The 650 scram looks so promising and spied mule test bikes seem to have improved all the Interceptor weaknesses (seat, shocks, fork...)
I know both the Interceptor and Himalayan and I cannot stop thinking that the Interceptor feels a little bit more well put together than the Himalayan (paint quality, chromes, exhaust quality...)
Have fun swapping out the switchgear! 😅
Nice one Darcy.. I took one out yesterday thoughly enjoyed it, well balanced punchy bike... Definitely getting one this year 👍
Love it! Very good looking "stock" exhaust, the sound is good as well. I think at the price point it will be a performer. I certainly hope this new BSA company does well. I have a place in my heart for British bikes. Be happy, be safe
Oh yeah and if you're not careful the exhaust can melt your boot heel, seen a few videos where you can see the marks just behind the right footrest 😏
you guys are really lucky to enjoy these bikes in perfect locations.
Best SH--T Anywhere was what they were called in the states back in the 70"s. Real good review. I think I would pick this over the 650.
Why have the exhaust on the same side as the drive chain? Makes maintenance that bit more of a pain for access
When they come to australia im get one for sure awesome looking bike still waiting ...
You have the option to take out the removable baffle to fix the “too quite” problem… 😉
Still sounds like a Stihl to me though
Every bike out of factory will be quite these days. They have to pass regulations after all.
Happy new year to you, just wanted to say thank you for all the brilliant videos over the past year ..BRILLIANT JOB 👍🏼
I've actually bought that exact Demo bike from Cooperb today...delivery next Saturday
Awesome that’s so cool 😎
Anyway, great review of a great bike.
Your video makes the bike look mid blue but I love it in that colour 👌
That seat isn't so bad fella ! I learned to ride on a 1953 BSA A7 500cc Star Twin I bought in 1973 from my mate Simon Evans, here in Burry Port, for £10. It had no silencers and absolutely no seat padding, just the metal base and had pulled a sidecar for 20 years beforehand.
It’s really beautiful with a chrome tank. I’d get one if didn’t already have the Enfield.
20 years old!!!holy crap son!!!u got long road ahead of u!!!liked & subed!!! good staff #customoods #findingretreat #srilanka
Sounds good. Looks good. Goes good. It's reliability will show over time.
Good review, I’ve a highland green in order
Having just bought a great looking Royal Enfield, the Goldstar is the best looking bike on the market.
Nice looking bike and can definitely see you loved this one Darcy 👍🏼
Nice review. Love that color and general look of the bike. Nice to see a traditional splash guard up front to keep debris out of the radiator. Not keen on the radiator but with emission controls it’s inevitable.
Great review Mr Darcy. I would LOVE this BSA but as far as I know they aren’t being imported into New Zealand. They are probably the most classic looking British bike, alongside the Triumph T120, being produced this century. If anyone knows anything about their NZ import status please reply!! Cheers to all BSA nuts out there!😊🎉
This is not a British bike, it's a Mahindra. Not that there's anything wrong with Mahindra because I really like their products
Great review and great job on capturing the sound 😊 thank you
Great, I will without doubt get a test ride in the spring. However not sure I will px my interceptor for one!
Worth a test ride, yes probably wouldn’t swap if I already had an interceptor but you never know!
Great video! 👍
Great review. I love the sound and feel of a big single. As usual with all new stuff, the exhaust sound needs "adjusting" 😉 Cool bike.
That thing is a beauty.
Nice review, I love v twins but would like a go on one of these, think I will see how they cope with demand at the dealers
You guys should do a review on the Ducati scrambler desert sled. I'd like to hear your thoughts with that compared to the triumph scrambler XC
Thank you. I just bought one and loving it. I got the red one😇
Awesome, enjoy 👍🏼
Nice review, I am still surprised that no one else has picked up on how low the BSA feels. When I did my ride, it was the first thing I noticed when I threw my leg over it. For that, it feels more like my Classic 350 than my Interceptor 650. Ride and handling felt great though, but did “white line” noticeably more than the Interceptor, even though they both have the same tyres. Maybe it is down to the more relaxed geometry on the BSA. Enjoyed this review.
It would be interesting to see long term reviews and yes is it the same a the jawa with a rebadge? Someone said it could be
@@timsnaden8937 I don't think it is, I saw that review so I went to take a look for myself and although you can see some common shared parts such as the indicators the frame is definitely substantially different with the BSA frame having quite a pronounce gooseneck up to the headstock and the rear footpeg hanger loops are definitely different too.
Happy New Year you lot, & keep pouring the 'Tore-knee Port' into your Ol'man (Bit of Stilton, apple pie . . . more Port : )
I love these old style bikes even though i ride a kawasaki and yamaha .it has a class style to it
The body is same as jawa 42 sold in india with 300 cc engine... I wonder what changes they made with 650 engine...
Dude, how can they fit a 652 cc engine in a 293 cc frame? Can you explain this?
It does look like it shares some parts with the Jawa frame but the front cradle is tailored for the 650.
Nice review Mr Darcy
Round headlights matter. The concept of vehicle design that indicates what direction it's meant to travel is becoming rarer and rarer in the 21st century. Good review, thank you.
I love the retro bikes even though my daily riders are mostly actual vintage bikes from the 70s . What would be cool is a Retro using the Honda XR650L motor or the Kawasaki KLR650. There was a guy here in the States building Norton Manx type frames for the KLR650 motors
Yes definitely 👌🏼
Great review, you highlighted some really good points but I think I’ll keep my pointy plastic thing until the Gold star has proved itself. It’s a pity the header pipe isn’t swept back like the original.
I agree about the sweep-back. I think the pipe had to route down to connect to the catalytic converter.
@@NeilIves Fair point, it’s a shame they couldn’t work around it somehow but, you never know, a de-cat modification may make an appearance and allow a modified pipe to be fitted.
Yes, I also think reviewers forget that the manufacturers of plastic pointy things, were capable of making stuff like this at least 50 yrs ago.
@@Grahamvfr I do not get your point. This is an intentionally retro styled bike 🤔
@@user-rf9me7xm1w I think there's a good chance that alternative pipes will appear because the current shape is crappy.
Great looking bike. Prefer the exhaust and instrument binnacle Vs the Interceptor (which could do with a small refresh in that area).
Great video
Well done 👏
Nice review Darcy👌
Keep up the excellent work 😊
Happy New Year!!
I never noticed that before on the rear, my 2022 V7 Special is the same. I also didn't get locking fuel cap or colour coded rear mudguard 😞
Once they get bikes into showrooms for sale I will be convinced. No dealerships in Scotland yet.
Hopefully we will see it at our bike show at ingliston next year, but yes we need dealers....
Thanks for the excellent review of a very nice bike. Hopefully BSA manages to set up a decent service network otherwise they will not be able to compete with RE. Good to have another "retro" choice on the market.
Good review as always, you didn’t tell us the seat height, and has it got a centre stand?
It hasn’t got a centre stand unfortunately, all the full specs can be found on BSA website 👍🏻
I've heard that these cannot be fitted with a centre stand as there is no mounting points for one. Kinda disappointing for a chain driven bike of this style. I use it all the time on my Interceptor for cleaning the chain, filling the tank fully etc.
Looking at one in the showroom next to the royal enfield it doesn't look as good quality as the Enfield
Plus another 5000 pounds?
Is there a reason the rear light was flashing on and off?
Could be the frame rate on the video
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Had wondered f that might be the case but not sure that I've noticed it on any other bike reviews, was good to see you using the roads around Santa Pod, visit there quite often
Never seen one of these in the states. Only older BSA bikes in museum
Even when the suns out in the UK, It's still bloody wet !!!!!
Serious audible feedback from the gearbox at the 15:15 mark.
I am not into popular brands, so this seems interesting to me
The bike is beautiful and in my eyes it is a decent product however since many people say that the price should be lower than the Royal Enfield I would like to ask you to test the 3 cheapest 650cc classic bikes on the market to see if in fact we are paying too much money for bikes that are basically ideal for cruising at 80 or 100 kmph. Please make a comparison between Mash SixHundred, BSA GoldStar and Royal Interceptor
