Adam Bastien wrote this, it's based on what he went through when coming out to his family. Such a beautiful song and message. It was a very simple video, but the song came through.
This is an beautiful heart wrenching original written by Bastien 😢 He wrote this in 2015 as a way to cope with the rejection of family and friends when coming out as a gay man. This version has slightly changed lyrics but still has the same kind of message and resonates with a lot of people in different family and friends situations.
Even though it’s a really sad song, it’s beautifully performed. Bastien sang his heart and soul out. I’ve watched the video many times already and I still tear up and get chills listening to it hearing what he went through. Thankfully, in a recent Instagram video with he and Tim, he is no longer in that situation. Tim and Chris Chatham helped him re-write some of the lyrics to make it relatable to a more diverse group of people. I can’t understand why some people can do that to their children, or other family members. To cut them out of their lives completely for their lifestyle, political views,or other reason. The only way I could distance myself from someone is if they’re toxic or abusive. I love your reaction and commentary. You made perfect sense to me as a long time Home Fry (since 2013).
Read on another reactors channel that Rupp had a very rough time recording his part. In a way not surprising as "still waters run deep" and he does have and has had for a long time donated his hair for cancer patients etc. Thank you for your thoughtful reaction to this song.
Home Free is the absolute best at songs of reverence and emotion! I feel like my heart just got ripped out and stomped on. Only Home Free can do that! Stunning song and harmonies!
You gave a very insightful review of this beautiful and meaningful song. Adam Bastien gave his whole heart in the writing of the song and in his performance here. The rest of the Home Free guys back him up with their amazing talents, big hearts and harmonies.
Thank you for the heartfelt reaction. Relationships can be messy, and so many people have lost the blessings of family connections. It matters little who’s at fault, if we all took the first step, or second, or hundredth, many rifts could be repaired or canyons narrowed. Not all can (or should be) but every repaired relationship is a blessing.
Bastien wrote this and he did a wonderful job. He even riffs at the end a little that reminded me of Austin. Those harmonies are wonderful as always. Loved the song even though it’s a little bittersweet. I loved his line, “We’re all deserving of a little grace and love”. SO true! Good one Lieben!!!
Yes Sebastien wrote this song in 2015, hes husbands' family would not let they come for a visit together, so he wrote this and they sing it on the Voice, and they were so welcome there. So, as you sain it's a very emotional and strong lyric here, even today 9years later, thank you so much for react to this hug from Norway 🫂🫂🥹💞💞🥹😢😢and a must say that Rupps drumming was awesome ❤❤a felt coming Home and a look at my snow globe so an also think about that song.
Wow. If you'll excuse me, I have a sudden strong desire to go watch a Hallmark Christmas movie. I bet the music won't be as good as this, though. Also, love the cap, LT! 💙
No it was written by Bastien and 2 of his friends Katya Diaz and Chris Hierro and I’m getting this off his personal story he gave on the song from Patreon

There is something special about this video. It is not "acted," it is "felt," which makes sense once you know why the song was written originally. 😃

This has made teary every time I’ve heard it. I don’t understand how parents can discard their children like that.
