I'm seeing switchbot everywhere now ahah that's awesome ! I'm using a switchbot contact sensor on a recliner so when i lean back in my chair it turns on my light and turns off my light when i close my recliner turns off my light . I agree with your review on the lock, that is why I stayed with the wyze smart lock for now. I also am not a fan of the battery they use for the locks. I also have talked with the founder of switchbot and told him that the auto unlock missing from this is preventing me from giving it a higher review.

SwitchBot is definitely gaining some momentum! Like I said in the video, I appreciate their passion & excitement for their products. I’ll be trying some of their other stuff they sent me to give them a fair shake. I wanted this review to go better than it did.
Nice idea with the sensor! I love it. I totally get what you’re saying as far as the lock goes. Their concept has great potential though. Hopefully they do a little fine tuning & redesign with their next model.

Thanks for the honest review George - much appreciated. I noticed that the camera you had trouble with is 2.4GHz only and you could typically have issues on some routers if the 2.4GHz and 5GHz SSIDs are not split. Not sure about the Orbi you're using but on Unifi, which is what you should be using - it's the  of the networking world ;), I would set up an IoT network, limit that network to 2.4Ghz only and add all my smart devices to that network and manage them there. I've had no issues adding any device to my network after that. Nice to see the channel growing - keep em vids comin! 👍

You’re welcome! Yeah, that’s not the problem in this case. I add 2.4 only devices all the time (not to mention deal with it everyday with my customers). So I’m well aware of how to get around that issue. I think they sent me a defective camera. Not shocking at the $30 price point.
I’ve tried Unifi (which is absolutely a good choice), but I find myself liking this particular ORBI more. I love the passion Unifi users always have though. Very much like true Apple lovers. Lol
Thanks for the kind words & thanks for watching! I very much appreciate the continued support. 😊

While my new house will be a Unifi setup I have the Netgear Orbi (renting) and for a consumer level type WiFi setup it is really good. If I wasn't going to use the Unifi camera system I would stick with the Orbi's I have and just expand and add another satellite

Yeah, it completely depends on which ORBI it is. I’m not a fan of their entry level & base models, but their top end models are great (on the consumer level).
Here’s hoping the new house is coming along nicely!

If I was renting like an apartment I think SwitchBot makes sense. But I don't see a need to use any of their products at this time especially with only a few items are made for HomeKit.

It will be very interesting to see which of their products get Apple Home compatibility. They are pretty excited about making that happen so I hope it’s all of them.

@@GeorgeLangabeer If they did that I would add them to the conversation when looking at smart home products. They are definitely in that renters market (or cheaper to retrofit then upgrade) where you want to have smart stuff but limited due to restrictions and modifying the place you are renting from. If they had some of this stuff when I was living in Korea I would have purchase a few of their items to make my lil double room place smart.

I am a female, nurse who lives in NJ so I sadly can't use your company. I am someone who lives alone. I have been watching your videos and the videos of Shane Whattley. You both suggest Aqara. I live in a townhouse part of a condo association so there are limitations on what I can do. I was going to get simplisafe but Based upon your videos and Shane's videos I just started my first purchase of M1 hub and window/door sensors. However now I am reading reviews where people post and say Aqara is not a serious security system and homeowner's insurance also does not acknowledge the system. On line reports say : poor customer support, no signage, ugh: I hope you still believe in Aqara. Also I can't put regular camera's outside due to condo rules: I have a ring peephole camera and maybe the condo association will let me replace my doorbell with a doorbell alarm
Would you please provide some guidance? Do you and Shane really think Aqara is good. Friends are saying I am stupid to take Aqara over say simply safe.

It’s nice to know, contrary to those complainers, that some people have integrity in their review of a product. We’d all be bilked less if more were honest. Thank you for an honest review.
