@@backez5287 learning is more enriching when questions are asked. It forces the teacher to go deeper into to topics. You assume to much. Your irritation is your own character flaw, not dans.
I'm not being sarcastic. I re-watched the video & I agree with you. What should be done with him? other than online shaming, which might work in shut him up.
Notes for later: - 0:00 : the cut by white will lead to a ladder if mistakes are made - 3:00 : The Windmill - 5:15 : How to put a mess in black territory (corner enclosed and 2 bases) by attaching and atari'ing, followed by Dan's comments (see following index to skip it) - 10:30 : How to respond to such attachment (extend, not hane), followed by the inevitable Dan's comments (go to following index) - 12:30 : conclusion - 14:00 : a counter-example of when not attaching is the right thing to do - 16:50 : "double pincer" + invasion -> attach underneath
4:00 I'm not sure I understand the reasoning why black can't attach to white. Is it just because if you're playing a handicap game you usually have better places to play at this stage?
In that case with the line 3 black territory and the white invasion, I mean yeah that could happen definitely. It really depends though - white has an even bigger, looser territory on the bottom. White can play there, but that's not the biggest move to play. 5 stones on either side of the board would automatically make it black's move (since he goes first), if its white's move, and he decides to attach, you can invade white's territory, or claim the remaining star point. Even if someone invades you, if its not the biggest move on the board, you don't need to respond. You can build more influence that way. Furthermore, depending on how and where white attaches, you might know its virtually impossible to kill white. Your goal is to make white SMALL, and you can build a nice wall facing whatever direction you're trying to go for.
to everyone that tell dan to shut up you need to go watch 8:37 when nick asks dan what he thinks, has it ever crossed your mind that nick WANTS to hear what his students think and WANTS them to ask questions so that he can answer and teach them better?......dont be lazy.....think....its hard i know but just try...

8:09 move at 5-4 is very bad for white. The shape with 5-5 is a very popular joseki and you should study it, the correct respond for white in the sequence you showed would have been w 7-5. I stopped watching there, nothing to learn if you miss simple joseki like this one and I really mean no offense :(
I couldn't handle Dan... your tolerance is laudable...
LOL, Dan is such a heckler. Seems like he wants to argue for argument's sake. Awesome lesson so far.
There's a ancient go proverb that goes something like: "DAN SHUT THE FUCK UP".
***** The translation from Japanese is a little rough.
Additional proverbs:
Cut Dan if you can.
Make a fist before striking Dan.
Dan, Dan is bad play
You cannot kill the dragon, but you can punish Dan.
7 years later, shut up Dan....... :)
thanks for the lesson
can somebody figure out how to edit out the Dan? please
Dans great. At least he is questioning stuff

Admirable that you can stay so calm during the arguments.

The way Nick talked to Dan in this had me LOLing. He's getting better at it.
Please Nick, I want a Dan go lecture #1. is it possible as an extra episode ? a 8 dan game review would be great. Thanks by Advance. Bruno
PLEASE! hahaha That would be amazing!
I don't know if I could handle 8 Dans
Thanks so much for your lectures, Nick. We just started a Go Club and Mississippi State University, and these videos are helping us.
Shut up Dan......................................
This lecture is in the wrong order on the playlist; i.e. part 3 is before part 2
I've got a nickname for Dan: it's Disagreeing Dan.
10:35 Extending to 6-3 blew my DDK mind
I came to check comments because of Dan :)

It is territory because Nick Sibicky said so! Let him give his lecture.
He didn't say why not no attach to stones with influence. He just said it's not a good idea. That doesn't really further understanding
Yeah, I bet he's a fighter in his games
Great Lectures!
At 6:30 why doesn't black create a ladder?

What rank are you, nicksibicky? How did you learn?
One has to question value of the outcome to become stronger. Love how they argue.
Tough gig, lol... Another excellent video, though.
11:26 classic
All the arguments from that Dan guy is really annoying. But the lecture is still very good. I learned a lot about how to use attachments.
lolololol Dan Dan Dan...........SHUT YOUR MOUTH MAN

Shut it Dan.
after w 7-5, black atari at 5-3 then white atari at 5-4 forcing the take, then white does what, create a big wall or invade at 3-4 or something?
