Yeah, Intel has made a mess of the NXXX numbers. MS Copilot in the Edge Browser:
N95: An entry-level mobile CPU from Intel’s Alder Lake-N series, with 4 efficient cores (E-cores) and a base power consumption of 12W
N97: Similar to the N95 but with a slightly higher performance and power consumption of 12W
N100: Another entry-level mobile CPU from the same series, with 4 E-cores and a lower power consumption of 6W
N200: This is not a standard classification for Intel processors.
      Some web site called versus:
Why is Intel N95 better than Intel N200?
      1.7x faster CPU speed?
      4 x 1.7 GHzvs4 x 1 GHz
450 MHz faster GPU turbo speed?
      1200 MHzvs750 MHz

@@dlewis9760 seems like the n200 is the worst in the line up (its supposed to be the strongest but gaming wise like in the surface go 4 which barely runs gta v above 30fps), while the n97 is the best one if we exclude the i3 n300 and i3 n305, it doesnt make any sense

The N305 was available for a short time as the EQ 12 PRO. Production stopped on the model shortly after the model was first introduced. Right now, most N300/N305's are produced in Fanless network appliance chassis' format .. I believe the EQ 12 Pro stopped production because, for the most part, consumers could source an AMD based mini-PC for the same price with better performance without the Intel limitations imposed on the N100's/N200's/N300's... The ONLY thing that the EQ 12 Pro had the advantage to was that it had TWO 2.5G Intel (I-225's, I believe ) network ports. Such devices as the EQ 12 Pro could make a wonderful "router on a stick" or "soft-router" ... The EQ 13 - not so much with the downgrade of the network adapters from 2.5 gigabit ethernet down to 1 gigabit ethernet. With the 8 cores of the N300 series, it was a much nicer arrangement than the 4-core N200's..

Arguably, the EQ 12 is a better model for a server than the EQ 13, unless you want two NVME slots. The EQ 12 gives you DDR5, and dual 2.5 gigabit ethernet network ports. The EQ 13 only real improvements was the built in power supply, and the N200 processor, but then downgrades the network adapters to 1 gigabit ethernet and DDR4 memory.
On the technical side- the EQ 12 and EQ 13 will both take a 32GB SODIMM, so you can have a mini-server with 32G. The NVME on the EQ13 is not 4 lane PCIE, but instead is 3-lane on the first slot, and 1 lane on the second and reflects in benchmarks if upgraded. Out of the box, you'll get up to 3500 Mbps with the 1st slot on the EQ 13, and it will more or less top out at 900 Mbps in the second slot. The INCLUDED SATA SSD tops out at about 500 Mbps in case you are wondering .. So, upgrading the SATA drive in the EQ13 does provide a nice speed boost, but only really for the 1st slot. The second slot is not that great of an upgrade. The PCIE lane limitation on the drives is likely a design issue with the N100/N200/N300 chipsets...
In the end, you can have a nicer unit if you upgrade it, i.e. 32G ram, and upwards of 4 TB of NVME, but because of the downgrade to DDR4 and dual 1 Gigabit Ethernet, if you want a server or software router, you should get the EQ 12 while you can as it's a better option with dual 2.5 gigabit ethernet and DDR5. Both will take 32 GB ram, just a single NVME + 2.5 inch SATA on the EQ12. Eventually, I expect Beelink to kill off the EQ 12 in favor of the EQ 13. All of the downgrades spells only one thing; it's cheaper for Beelink to source, but the savings is not necessarily passed onto the consumer.
In reality, the N200 will only seem faster when performing tasks such as upgrading Windows; but for the most part, it's just a slight bump up from the N100. The N305 was a nice performing option when the EQ 12 Pro was on the market, but for the most part, one could find a more powerful AMD based chipset for about the same price as the EQ 12 Pro, which is why I think the model stopped production. Also a reality is that these little mini-PC's, especially the N100's, N200's, and N300's all work better under LINUX than the same models in Windows. I do like the integrated power supply; most won't feel the difference between the N100 and N200, so, all-in-all, the EQ 13 is not a better machine than the EQ12. With the downgrade in the ethernet, may as well find an AMD based Mini-PC in the same price range and enjoy the performance boost.
The quiet- is likely derived from the EQ13 having larger heatsinks than the EQ12's for example- so the exhaust is significantly LARGER than it was before. It too is a nice touch

I tried the new EQ13 N200 a few days ago. You saying that I could have removed the slow no-name SSD that came with the machine and toss in my P31 SK Hynix and get proper speeds? I ended up returning the EQ13 and got an EQ12 instead.

They missed a trick by not having an N97 model.
In this instance it is initially positive not to see the N200 being priced way above the N100 for the little performance increases that it offers. However the cost cutting elsewhere illustrates why and not to Beelink's benefit.
The dedicated internal PSU is likely not necessary and must have an option for replacement to maintain attraction.
The audio port on the front is unusual but not restrictive.
These rubber feet again? Are Beelink incapable for learning the simplest of lessons?
DDR4? Does this really need further comment?
I do like the SSD heatsink that covers both slots and is easily removable.
Providing MSATA M.2 is cheap and may well be quite off putting.
The EQ12 was desirable and although it was not the cheapest, it still sat in a place where for the right daily deal, it would have felt worthwhile spending that extra money.
Not enough thought has gone into the EQ13 and although it is still in the right pricing areas, where I expect to see regular deals on the jungle site to something more competitive.
However, after watching initial reviews for the EQ12 I felt expected, after this I feel very little and already look forward to others providing options that are missing here.
The sole advancement of interest is the quiet fan and seeming decent heat management but it just isn't enough.
Not even close but no cigar. Like the Marvels movie, I watched it once but have no desire to do so again.
The cost cutting to make the N200 attractive just hasn't worked and I am sure that other reviewers, even those with rather too close relationships with Beelink will find it hard to spin things and avoid the obvious multiple downsides.
It is leaving my memory already.
They should fix the obvious issues and slap in the N97, which is eminently good all on it's own merits.

The audio jack on the front has been the norm for many mini pcs, but a lot of those points make sense.
That's why we could only recommend it to be used as a silent server.
If they'd have used a pcie3x4 (and have it compatible for two ports) or had a place for a 2.5 or 3.5, and better ddr5 memory, this would be a serious contender.
Outside that, there's many better options, even by Beelink themselves - especially if you wanted to game on it.

    • @MrPir84free
      @MrPir84free 3 місяці тому

The EQ 12 is arguably a better option as a mini-file server or home server for most purposes .. Both the EQ 12 and the EQ 13 can be upgraded to 32 G SODIMM's, respectively. But the EQ12 also has the dual 2.5 G Intel network adapters. Most file servers are going to be running at near single digit percentages anyways, so the amount of noise is inconsequential overall, unless you are trying to game on the machine, which you aren't. Most of the downgrades to the EQ 13 is about the manufacturer cutting costs, but those cost cuttings were about making Beelink more money per mini-pc not about saving their customers money. Why might I think that? If the EQ 13 costed much more, many would simply go find a better option with an AMD based mini-PC at about the same price point- and get 6 Core 12 Thread or 8 Core 16 Thread performance rather than 4Core 4Thread.
Like you, however, I do see some value in having a lower powered, quiet mini-PC acting as a home server.

Return to Monkey Island. Man, I am not a fan of the art direction even on a benchmark clip for a mini PC. Give me back my 16bit style!
I wonder how high Intel were when they decided on the naming scheme for these APUs.
General question, with all these Mini PCs, ever encountered any fitting issues with SSDs of your own which might come with their own heatsink?
