My favorite match took place on July 21st, 1985, at the Charlotte Coliseum when a female security guard went to the ring and gave Tully a little kiss and a lot of inspiration. The next thing we know was that Tully Blanchard got up and KNOCKED OUT "Johnny Glass Jaw" Magnum T.A. and pinned him to become the new NWA United States Heavyweight Champion! I'm sure Baby Doll was ecstatic to hear the great news while she was vacationing in Hawaii on Dusty's dime.
The best feud in the NWA in 1985. It was bloody and brutal with a lot of animosity and hatred between the two men. The "I Quit" match in a steel cage at Starrcade 85' is an all-time classic. Never gets old. Kudos to all involved that told a great story in pro wrestling.

I was VERY surprised that James did not know Magnum had eventually married Tully's ex-wife! I do remember watching the out of ring scrapes that TA and Tully had and Baby Doll is Spot On Correct about how legit those blows between these two were....you really could hear and see the impacts of those punches!

There for a while, MJF in AEW brought back thoughts of Tully with the serious heat he was getting a couple of years ago but it still didn't touch what TB elicited from the audience on a nightly basis. They hated him.

The UK!😁 To be honest, I was a little surprised that he didn't know this, as he is generally so well clued up on American wrestling. I am also in the UK, but knew this from watching Tessa on TNA, where the commentators mentioned on a number of occasions that Tully was her dad and Magnum her step-dad.

The I Quit match for the US Heavyweight title is one of the best NWA matches I ever saw. Baby Doll helped make that possible.

I LOVED that I Quit match . I had just started watching wrestling around that time . Actually 86 . But I heard and read so much about it in mags and seen clips on tv , I went to the video store every week to see if they had it for rent yet . It took a while . A long while !!! it was 87 before i found it for rent ! But when I found it I lost my little mind !!! , but finally holding that 2 dollar rental tape in my hands in the car with my mom on the way home was glorious ! And so was that whole show to me !

Growing up in NJ and not having cable, I could only follow that feud through the Apter and Napolitano magazines. Tully was so good that each month when the new magazines would come out the first I did was to see if he got his ass kicked or lost his title. Now THAT is true heat when a teenager hates someone that he has never even seen live before.

Was it a case of Tully being his own worst enemy at the time?
Tully chased his wife with a tire tool and got in trouble for DV. Then he went on a bunch of rants about lawyers stealing his wife on the ski slope and moved in a couple houses away from her and his kids and stalked them. He had cheated the entire marriage. He never intended to be any other way. Now he's an evangelist 🙊
