I've watched a few coilover videos since I bought my EM2 and this one was easily the most helpful because you mentioned things and covered potential problems NOBODY else mentioned. It's clear you know what you're doing and talking about and this is the help I need. 👍🏼
My Maxpeedingrods Coilovers came with tophats on all 4. Saved me a ton of extra steps. Mine are unbolt old ones slide in new ones. Didnt have to worry about taking a spring to the face or nuts. 😂
How low did your maxpeedingrods drop you on your 7th gen? Mine didnt drop the front hardly at all so I ordered some custom shorter softer springs for the front that'll come in a few days
@@colinjr9953 I put them on. Maxpeedingrod spring is 70.5mm I.D 230mm tall and 10k spring rate. I bought custom springs from them for $30 a piece. Went with 70.5mm I.D 200mm tall and 8k spring rate. I was able to max them out and get real low upfront and it rides sooo much better. 10k was absurdly stiff, 8k is perfect. Not too stiff but not too soft. I love it. My next issue is just how soft the rear is. Its better than stock but still soft. I'm gonna try ordering 10k spring rate springs for the back from the 8k current springs. Stock springs are 150lb front / 250lb rear. So the rear is supposed to be stiffer due to being a FWD. Maxpeeding rods come as 556lb front / 446 rear. They would be ideal if swapped back and forth but they have different spring inner dimensions so they don't fit. A design flaw honestly. Rear is too soft and front is too stiff. Most 7th gen civic people run 8k front 10k rear. Hope this helps! :)
I've been thinking about getting the same coilovers for my 03 civic coupe but I just don't like how the factory strut tops have to be reused. I'd go 1/4-1/2" more in the front.
I just got some racelands but why are the back springs loose when you put the top hats on? How would you adjust it because if you lower it wouldn’t the spring just be loose?
Its easier to assemble them if you have the spring adjustment at the loosest or (lowest) setting. You notice, i adjusted it once the strut hat was on. I couldve ran them on the car like that though. It just woudve been super slammed
Has anyone had problems after installing a driving on them when turning the steering wheel sounds like springs are clicking? Any idea what could cost that ? Did I install them wrong ? Anything helps.
i lowered my em2 the green raceland coil overs and i used the same god speed extended tie rods and after adjusting everything my front wheels are toed out a lot and i don’t know how to fix it. anything helps
Thats interesting. I had an issue with too much toe in with the extended outers. I had to end up cutting them to shorten them. If yours is toed out with the extended outers, im not sure why that would be.
Sorry, just seen your post. It depends. If you dont want to spend a lot of money, you can just do a nice spring. Eibach makes great springs. They run around $220 for a kit. The Prokits are around 1.2" drop and the Sportlines are around 2" drop. Ive used Eibachs on many of my cars with great success. Theres really no point in full coilovers unless you just want adjustability.
@@ballsoutperformance was thinking about the spring set up.. cheaper.. unless the shocks are blown.. idk yet to cold up here in Canada to bother. You do any under hood work on the beater ? Haha
Yea, def check condition of the struts. As far as performance work... no. But ive done lots of maintenance, t-belt service, vavle adjust, all hoses, radiator, condenser, lots of seals and gaskets, etc.
Yes I trust them. I do engine work, transmission work, exhaust work, all under the car obviously, and on jack stands. Thats what they are designed for, and if used correctly are safe. A floor jack is another story. Thanks for your input
Thats all I modified. I replaced the ball joints, lower control arms, and inner tie rods as well, just due to high mileage. I have a video on that as well

Raceland offers new top hats as an option when u order
Dou have vid for the front absorber. How you manage the coil sleeve adjuster fit on the front shock absorber
Its made that way. Its an assembly
I know this is an old video but hoping for a reply. What size tires and wheels were you running on this setup? Thank you sir and great explanation.

so if my coils come with top hats i don’t need too change them out with oem ones?
Correct
Man that’s a nice car
Thanks. Its had a repaint and other things since this video. Check out my other videos on this car.
Do you have to takes the front brakes off to do this cause my shocks just blew on mine and im going to be putting some coilovers on it
No, you can leave the brakes intact.
What did you use the grease for? Between the spring and top hats?
I took apart the factory top hat. I cleaned and regreased the ball bearings. Not required but I figured I might as well do it while I was there.
@@ballsoutperformance okay nice
What do you do if you lose some ball bearings from the top mount?
Buy a new mount. I dont think that theyre terribly expensive

Theyre just some cheap ones off ebay

Where do you get the camber bolt from?
Parts store, rock auto, alignment shop, etc

How did they drive big pimpin? Bumpy or like cruisin on a cloud :)?
Theyre not bumpy or bouncy. Stiffer than stock. Feels good.
