Hello Jonathan, this is a unrelated comment but I wanted to thank you for doing these videos and as a mostly Star Trek interested fan I'm surprised how many good recommendations you have outside of Trek books. Please keep up the good videos!
Thanks for review. Love the channel came on here originally for some good star wars recommendations as im digging deep into the EU. But have definitely added some new series into the rotation based off videos like these. Icarua saga probably my favorite non star wars series read so far
His best is still the Conquerors Trilogy and Mantas Gift. I would put the Icarus Saga and Angelmass in the “great…but not amazing” category. Just so you’re prepared. And Icarus is no casual reading. 😂 The Third act of each book is off the charts.
SPOILERS AHEAD Hey Johnathan, I like the review you made. I just finished The Icarus Twin and I’m a bit mixed on the series. First off I’ll start with stating The Icarus Hunt has remained my favorite within the saga so far and I’m so dissapointed with the lack of crossover characters. Jordan , Tera , Ixil excellent but they get a crumb of focus when comparing it to book 1. Also what happened with the rest of the Icarus crew if I recall one of them was gonna stay and help with the project but no mention of him at all, so far Gregory is an okay MC, but he feels so similar to Jordan that I wonder why Zahn didn’t just counter with Jordan and have Selene meet Jordan somewhere in the galaxy. Also .. please Zahn stop overusing “as my father used to say”. The story is fun though ! I liked book 3 more than 2 but dislike Varsi dying off screen. Easton Dent was pretty cool. I’ll be starting the next book soon
Almost forgot to mention, I’m curious to know if Ixil’s race, the Kalixiri, is inspired from the Qasaman and mojo relationship from Zahn’s book Cobra Strike Additionally the ordinance of the Path not being able to act on their own accord reminded me of the chiss Ascendacy. Similarly the path have an “elite” of space travel much like the chiss had their skywalkers
I believe the choice to switch MCs to Gregory is that Zahn wanted the new series to feel a little different than Hunt, where The Icarus Hunt is the prequel and the main series The Icarus Saga follows another character. I would like to see more of Jordan McKell, but we do see a little of him in book 3. I’m hoping that we get a surprise appearance from Gregory’s father in one of the final books, it would make his sayings a lot more impactful.
Ooo meeting Roarke’s dad isn’t something I’ve thought about. That would be pretty cool. And your reasoning the new MC is understandable. I’m excited for read book 3 and then watch your review on it 🎉
You can probably just do The Icarus Plot and The Icarus Twin. However, that will probably spoil the mystery in “The Icarus Hunt” though, but I don’t know if it’s still in print. I know it’s in audio and ebook.
I'd recommend starting with the hunt because it will make some of the motivations and characters easier to understand in plot especially with there being a lot of moving parts

I really enjoyed this book. Easton Dent maybe having a twin or not was a fun plot point.
I probably wouldn’t have checked out his non Star Wars stuff but I think I will on your recommendation. Great stuff

Interesting … but since the second book is basically the first book, what is your recommended reading order?

I would read Icarus Hunt first I loved it so much. This series is great.
