    This scheme is really unfair on those who are disabled but received a diagnosis after State Pension age. You have to be claiming PIP before you reach SP age but after that you can't claim it. You can only claim something called Attendance Allowance which isn't eligible as a payment on the Motability Scheme. Although PIP is now called Disability Living Allowance (DLA), pensioners can't claim it. Yet if you are on DLA and then enter State Pension age you can still be on the scheme throughout your retirement! Madness!

      Hmm I would recheck that if I was you my Gran got DLA in her80s, far as I am awareit is one or the other and not both.
      Use the Turn2Us calculator.
      Could be wrong but pretty sure I also read the above about a month back.

    I've been on the scheme around 3 years and had 2 chairs. My advice is make sure you choose a decent dealer, my first dealer got shut down and didn't update Motabilty and lied about fact they were not allowed to provide custom chairs. I ended my lease a year early with first chair (cost £50.)
    I'm now with Bromakin who are one of the few who are allowed to do custom chairs on Motabilty. Takes nearly all of my allowance for 5 years but there isn't a large advanced payment if you go over 5 years. 👏🏻 There is no insurance excess either unlike the cars which do have insurance excess.
    Also you don't get the weather proof storage cover when chair is custom.

      Thank you for your comment. Sorry this reply is so late - I've been struggling to keep on top of things with my health, but am getting there slowly! Sorry to hear you had so many problems with the first dealer you went to - that must have been really frustrating having to end your lease early because of them. I'm glad you've managed to find a better dealer this time round and have been able to get a custom chair from them. Thank you for the heads up about the weather proof storage cover - hopefully that will help anyone getting a custom chair x

    I get what you mean about the level of a WAV. I sometimes feel people looking when loading and unloading and I wonder if people are thinking and whether or not it would make bad people think I am an easy target if you know what I mean, I feel I stick out less with a standard car.

    Can someone explain me one thing please, how you get 12 points on your mobility component, you're just wheel chaired person, and you can do everything on this wheelchair...
    I have Ms and almost every aspect of my life is affected and I got only 11 points...
    This is mind blowing...

      Appeal to their decision of 11 and exaggerate EVERYTHING. Otherwise they're going to give you less points, as if it comes out their pocket.

    Roughly how long does it take to get the car?

    • @JennyCole1988
      @JennyCole1988  7 місяців тому

      I've found it completely depends on what type of car you go for and how long the factory take to get it to the dealership to be honest. Some people manage to get a car almost straight away if the dealership have one available or if the factory can ship one over quickly, while for others it can take months (mine took quite a few months). It's worth asking around at different dealerships about what their wait times are to give you an idea of what you might like to choose if that's something that's important to you x

      @JennyCole1988  Рік тому

      Hi sorry for the delay in replying. I’m sorry to hear your wife is having to go into a home. I would recommend giving Motability a ring to check that you’ll be able to keep her car, as they will be able to give you the most up-to-date information. They’re always very helpful on the helpline so hopefully you’ll get the answers you need xx

    Hi Jenny, I am going to start motability scheme, do I need to have a driving license before leasing a car ?

    • @blkdiamond7227
      @blkdiamond7227 3 роки тому +2

      You need a license to drive on the roads regardless tbh

      Thank you for your comment! Sorry it's taken me so long to reply - I've been struggling to keep on top of things with my health, but really appreciate you commenting :) So you can actually get a Motability car without having a driving licence, however you wouldn't be able to drive the car yourself. I know quite a few Disabled people who aren't able to drive themselves and therefore don't have a licence, but they still have a Motability car and their partner/carer is the main driver. But if you want to drive the car yourself, you would need to have a valid driving licence. I believe Motability can help with lessons in some circumstances, so it's worth having a chat with them if that's something you might need help with. Good luck with your Motability journey! xx

      Thank you for your comment! Sorry it's taken me so long to reply - I've been struggling to keep on top of things with my health, but really appreciate you commenting :) Absolutely, if someone wants to drive the car themselves, then as you say they must have a licence. However, if the Disabled person doesn't want to/isn't able to drive, they are still able to get a Motability car but would need to have a partner/carer as the named driver :)

    Can I apply for a car on behalf of a disabled member in my family ?

    • @JennyCole1988
      @JennyCole1988  7 місяців тому

      So the Disabled person themselves has to actually apply for the car (although with their permission, if they're able to give it, you can certainly help with that application if they need it). But the Disabled person doesn't have to be a driver on the car if they can't drive, so you could be registered as one of the drivers on their lease. Definitely give Motability a ring if you have any questions on the process, as they're really great at helping make sense of it all x

    Does anyone know if they still let you get a mobility car if you have points on your license? I picked up 3 the other week driving through an out of town 30mph zone that I thought was a 40mph zone and got picked up doing 35mph, was absolutely gutted :( . Does this now mean I have ruined my chances of getting one now?

    Mental heath do you get mobilaty high end

    • @JennyCole1988
      @JennyCole1988  Рік тому

      Sorry for the late reply. I think they tend to assess people based on how the Disability affects you, rather than what it is if that makes sense? So if someone was very severely affected by mental illness and it impacted their mobility/ability to walk distances etc, then it may be possible for them to get the higher rate for mobility. But it completely depends on each individual case and how an illness affects each person xx

      Not officially, just use private or quiet roads. Unless you have a provisional you can drive anywhere with an L plate, just make sure you are on the insurance.

    • @JennyCole1988
      @JennyCole1988  Рік тому

      As Dave has said, if you have a provisional licence and your Grandson has passed his test, then he can take you out for lessons in the car if you use L plates. I’d always recommend giving Motability a call if you have any questions too, just so they can give you the most up-to-date information and any help you might need xx

    Do you have to have a physical disability?

    • @JennyCole1988
      @JennyCole1988  Рік тому

      I think you can get PIP (or other qualifying benefits) for a range of conditions (not just physical Disabilities) - it’s more focused on how your condition affects your daily life, rather than the condition itself. So if a non physical Disability affected your ability to function enough to qualify for the relevant benefit, you would then be eligible for a Motability car. It’s worth talking to your local CAB if you need some support with applying for the right benefits xx
