I can't say enough about Bruno. He is able to take a page of written notes and turn it into something beautiful and alive. Not everyone has this ability. As far as acting goes, it is amazing how convincing he is in the female part. He has such an interesting look and assumes convincing and natural facial expressions. This scene was extraordinary and both realistic in its way and stylized in a way appropriate for baroque opera, an unusual and unique art form, which is quite distinct from the standard operatic repertoire. The director should be commended as well. The set and costumes, combined with movement of extreme subtlety, makes this scene enjoyable visually in combination with such charming music. The conductor and instrumentalists should also be commended. The orchestra plays beautifully without calling attention to itself, something I have learned not to take for granted.
This is simply one of the best, if not the best, interpretations of a baroque aria that I've heard! Bruno de Sá has a genius for interpreting this music. He understands how to sing the ornaments, so important in music of this era. And he can sing a two-note trill! He knows how to perform an unaccompanied cadenza so that is expressive and in tune!
