One condition to lift the sanctions - Russia undergoes a democratic revolution, where the authoritarian imperialists and corrupt oligarchs currently in charge are all murdered/locked up and we get a REAL Russian democracy... My unit was in Bucha today, very emotional when exhausted civilians welcomed us in their ruined city. This is a massive victory, we have won this fight. The war is not over and the Donbas will descend deeper into hell, but we can celebrate for today. Only blessing of seeing it in video format is you avoid the smell, which is… probably the worst part, I am sure you will agree. Bless the Ukrainian troops too, may they all stay safe as they resecure their land and recover the bodies for a proper burial. We cannot undo a war crime, but it can be avenged and most importantly its victims can be remembered.

I think "bad" and "good" are lazy ways to describe this. And they're not helpful at all. Using words like Good/Bad is probably part of the reason we keep repeating ourselves and going through this pain. We're like children who refuse to do the hard work and cling to their parents leg (God) to have explanations hand fed to us. That adult work, that is, using your brain to figure out why something happens, is the realm of God. Sadly, this is the Russian policy of spreading terror to limit resistance. They left the child and an adult alive to tell the tale (not realising they were being filmed), in the hope of breaking the will and morale of the Ukrainian people. For it to be a war crime, it would have to be the intentional targeting of civilians. Regardless of whether it is or not, no one is going to hold them to account, so it's irrelevant. Even using cluster munitions is outlawed in Europe, but neither Russia nor Ukraine are signatories to that ban.
It's legalize which keeps media companies from being sued for tainting a case before it goes to court. Not that the case against Russia would be dismissed because the reported prejudiced the court, by stating it was a war crime, since the couple's murder and evidence of the attempt to obfuscate the crime are documented on film. IMO only another Hiroshima/Nagasaki needs to happen before there is a push to abolish nuclear weapons, and, we need both China, North Korea and Russia to fall, not to mention political pressure on the democratic governments including nuclear powers like Israel, Pakistan and India to eliminate nuclear weapons (or reduce them to say a dozen missiles for symbolic purposes). So another nuclear war in the next 100 years is almost a certainty.

This is how war escalates with time. Soldiers on both sides are a group of people like any other group of people. Some are good, some are just trying to survive and a few are evil and sadistic. When something like this comes to light, it drives hatred into the hearts of good men, and allows them to do things they normally would never think of doing. And it just grows from there. Only blessing of seeing it in video format is you avoid the smell, which is… probably the worst part, I am sure you will agree. Bless the Ukrainian troops too, may they all stay safe as they resecure their land and recover the bodies for a proper burial. We cannot undo a war crime, but it can be avenged and most importantly its victims can be remembered.

For it to be a war crime, it would have to be the intentional targeting of civilians. Regardless of whether it is or not, no one is going to hold them to account, so it's irrelevant. Even using cluster munitions is outlawed in Europe, but neither Russia nor Ukraine are signatories to that ban.

So this is how Russian soldiers behave who've been pleading for leniency because they were told they were simply on exercise - the world needs to hold all of Russia to account, those committing atrocities and those supporting it.
