I still have the Sky Copter after 50 years. It has the 0,20 engine, but still the best adjustment was making it run so rich that it almost hovered, and launching it a bit tilted so it started first flying level back and forth, like in this video one launch. When it peaked in the end, it shot right uo to gain enough altitude to get that smart autorotation working. Actually the best launch was when I forgot to tighten the glow plug, and the engine surged so much that it came to a hover, landed, rose again fast, almost hovered, started to land, shot up, and then landed. But we did not dare to replicate that being afraid that the plug woulg come all loose and fling away never to be found again.... Cox models were popular here in Finland in the Seventies.
Still have that exact one new and unopened in the box. Loved seeing yours fly. By the way, I believe you set the record for the most flights on one before it gets lost in a tree😂
I guess he didn’t have the mixture right, I never heard the max rpms, that’s why it stalls in all attempts and lands. Mine runs for 2-3 minutes and climbs very hight. You have to learn how to play with the needle valve ;)
I got mine brand new. Filled it up started it, it went full speed on the motor. I let it go and it lifted up out of sight into the clouds and I never saw it again. Only started once. That was 25 30 years ago
45 Years ago I had one of the Cox Sky Copters. I flew it several times, and one day I had an idea. I wanted it to fly longer than 30 seconds, so I went to the hobby shop and got a bigger gas tank, strapped it on and flew it one last time. My friends and I watched it go higher and higher until we couldn't see it, but could still just barely hear it. That thing ran for close to 5 minutes. We searched off and on for days all around but never found it.
Bought a brand new in box 020 sky copter flew it several times then one day flew it sumbitch flew into the tallest tree on the property still there to this day ,that was 12 yrs ago,ill never buy another one fuck it
I think the tanks on these were too big! They definitely weren’t filling it all the way up or else it’s not the stock tank. I’d let mine go sometimes and be thinking ok that’s pretty high, whoa that’s really high, omg I can’t see it anymore please stop!
Timo, Thanks for sharing your experiences. We'll have to see what we can do going off with a rich setting.
I can actually smell the fuel right now

I have lost some free flight models like that as well. I'll keep an eye out for it, just in case it's still up there.
Hahahaha same here but found it in football field and it’s destroyed. Lol

Great stuff Frank, Shawn and I enjoy watching the videos .
They are loads of fun!!
I had the Air Wolf version :)
Funny, cute. Just like the real one; engine out, crash!
I did it in early 90s, in backyard and it flew across to football field and destroyed
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Too bad you didn't have better luck with yours>
