    Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel, today´s video will be the first out of an upcoming Airbus system knowledge video series. Today we will cover some general A320 knowledge, you should know prior starting you A320 Type rating. This is not a requirement but definitely nice to know and some of the topics can definitely be within the questionnaire in your airline assessment.
    The Airbus A320 family consists of short- to medium-range, narrow-body, commercial passenger twin-engine jet airliners manufactured by Airbus. The family includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321, as well as the ACJ business jet. The A320s are also named A320ceo (current engine option) after the introduction of the A320neo.[5] Final assembly of the family takes place in Toulouse, France, and Hamburg, Germany. A plant in Tianjin, China, has also been producing aircraft for Chinese airlines since 2009, while a final assembly facility in Mobile, Alabama, United States, delivered its first A321 in April 2016. The aircraft family can accommodate up to 220 passengers and has a range of 3,100 to 12,000 km (1,700 to 6,500 NM), depending on the model.
    The first member of the A320 family-the A320-was launched in March 1984, first flew on 22 February 1987, and was first delivered in March 1988 to launch customer Air France. The family was extended to include the A321 (first delivered 1994), the A319 (1996), and the A318 (2003). The A320 family pioneered the use of digital fly-by-wire flight control systems, as well as side-stick controls, in commercial aircraft. There has been a continuous improvement process since introduction.
    As of 31 May 2017, a total of 7,610 Airbus A320-family aircraft have been delivered, of which 7,279 are in service. In addition, another 5,501 airliners are on firm order. It ranked as the world's fastest-selling jet airliner family according to records from 2005 to 2007, and as the best-selling single-generation aircraft programme.[8] The A320 family has proved popular with airlines including low-cost carriers such as EasyJet, which purchased A319s and A320s to replace its 737 fleet. As of 31 May 2017, American Airlines was the largest operator of the Airbus A320 family aircraft, operating 390 aircraft. The aircraft family competes directly with the 737 and has competed with the 717, 757, and the MD-80/MD-90.
    In December 2010, Airbus announced a new generation of the A320 family, the A320neo (new engine option).The A320neo offers new, more efficient engines, combined with airframe improvements and the addition of winglets, named Sharklets by Airbus. The aircraft will deliver fuel savings of up to 15%. As of May 2017, a total of 5,053 A320neo family aircraft had been ordered by more than 70 airlines, making it the fastest ever selling commercial aircraft. The first A320neo was delivered to Lufthansa on 20 January 2016 and it entered service on 25 January 2016.

    Almost 30 years, the A320 family is still the only single-aisle aircraft series that I like, and still trying my best to fly with when I have to fly single-aisle planes. It's obviously much spacious in the cabin due to its wider fuselage and much properly positioned windows than the cramped 737.

    • @BobRossRightHand
      @BobRossRightHand 7 років тому +8

      "Properly positioned windows" That depends on the airlines seat config and not the manifacturer, and imo the a320´s windows are waaaay to small

      Boeing makes some pretty decent planes (well, the 777 and 787, really), but Airbus makes better ones... Particularly when it comes to safety Airbus has a much better record, and the individual comparison between the A320 and 737 comes out particularly shockingly in Airbus' favour.

    Yet another fantastic video Joe, for a nervous flier like me, your videos help me realise it really is the safest way to travel. I've only ever travelled on airbus A320 and a321 as that's the only planes the airline I travel on use, but I guess it would be fair to say they are quite advanced, well equipped planes, I've yet to travel on a Boeing or other kind, but either way you look at it, planes are are an amazing piece of machinery and engineering, everytime one takes off with tons upon tons of weight becoming airborne 😀

      In case you did not found out yet, it basically means a few (red/pink) lines on your display in the airplane that are following the route pre-defined by you and basically show you what your pitch and bank angle should be, in order to be on the route. You can see the lines in the following photo: www.google.com/search?safe=active&rlz=1C1GCEA_enRO826RO826&biw=1920&bih=937&tbm=isch&sxsrf=ACYBGNSxKCjUs7qItvwhifHsvZpPZ2Y4Mw%3A1569242006953&sa=1&ei=lruIXdfoOZGTsAetpppY&q=flight+director+a320&oq=flight+director+a320&gs_l=img.3..0i19.9586.11135..11349...0.0..0.109.517.1j4......0....1..gws-wiz-img.3NNiAmJUqXg&ved=0ahUKEwjXi5CD-ubkAhWRCewKHS2TBgsQ4dUDCAc&uact=5#imgrc=srbgpYfxTLWYVM:

      Speaking of Boeing, I do think it's hilarious that American Airlines is now the largest operator of A320s in the world thanks to the aircraft they inherited from US Airways, even though American Airlines prior to the merger was one of the staunchest pro-Boeing airlines in the world...

    • @281CubicInchesOfFreedom
      @281CubicInchesOfFreedom 7 років тому +6

      Robert Faber
      It is strange that previously all-Boeing airlines are starting to go with Airbus. Another example is Delta Airlines before the NWA merger. DAL was primarily all McDonnell Douglas and Boeing with some L-1011s here and there. They got their current Airbus planes from NWA. I guess they liked them and are replacing them with the A350.

    • @rjfaber1991
      @rjfaber1991 7 років тому +1

      +Tuna Sandwiches - Yes indeed, though NorthWest itself of course only started switching to Airbus very late in its existence as well. I do remember that on Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (which is reasonably close to where I live, and was always NWA's European hub) the only McDonnell Douglas planes you could still see in the early '00s were MD11s from NorthWest. As for the A350, I'm not that surprised they're going for that. If you're a large enough airline to have money to invest in new airplanes (and Delta certainly is that), then this new generation of ultra-fuel-efficient carbon fibre planes are just locking out the competition. At the bottom end you'd still go for an A320neo or 737 MAX, because economies of scale have just made those two planes so incredibly cheap, and at the top end, the 747 and A380 still exist in little bubbles of their own with no real competition, but in between them, the 787 Dreamliner and A350XWB have just moved the game on so much that it's difficult to argue for even the most fervent pro-Boeing airlines to still buy a 777. Airbus stands slightly more of a chance of still selling significant numbers of A330neos because of the improvements it has over the regular A330, but sales figures don't lie, the 787 Dreamliner is clearing up in that segment of the market as well. It'll be interesting to see which of the two will first come out with a carbon fibre plane in the A320/737 range, because that could really shake up the market.

      +bumbaukkis3 - Having more power sounds fantastic, but don't forget it also means you have more responsibility... Plus, the whole thing has been used way too often by Boeing to simply blame pilot error for accidents that would have been perfectly preventable if the plane itself had also been allowed to do some thinking of its own.

      CLM
      Almost all air crashes (and road crashes) are caused by human error. Often this is due to misunderstanding our own senses, or focusing our thoughts in one area, and ignoring other important details. Automation of even one function drastically reduces the thought process required.... Try it with cruise control in your car. It's far easier to concentrate on the surroundings when you no longer have to warry about holding a steady speed manually.

    • @clemsweety
      @clemsweety 7 років тому +3

      Obviously But i talk with a pilot view , not a passenger who wants safety . For safety , i agree with you but for a pilot who wants to pilot an aircraft and don't manage a computer , Boeing is better
