I'm a big fan of the composer, soloist and of course Busoni, but the sequence from 3:40 to 5:20 is so repetitive a configuration that no listener is going to pay attention for 140 seconds. I can't imagine what Stevenson was thinking. Busoni would never allow that to occur in a composition of his.
Having listened to it 3.40-5.20 does suggest a lapse in critical judgement. The first few minutes of a concerto are almost the most important. Maybe he ran put of ideas.
