- Embarking on a journey to the walled city of Lahore, Baalwala's goal is to meet a poetess who happens to be the last surviving heir of the Mughal dynasty and a direct descendant of Ilmudin Ansari from the 9th generation. Along the way, he passes through Zaki Gate and continue through Delhi Gate, both of which are saturated with history and tradition. Baalwala finds the entire experience enchanting and feels grateful for the chance to visit and learn from this extraordinary individual.

It was Hindu workmanship artisans designs and they paid dearly after lifetime of work...look at Taj Mahal. Typical of the cruelty shown to Hindus by all their Muslim conquerers the ir hands were chopped off to never again create for an ego maniac that was so unbalanced and actually illiterate and uneducated. I always wanted to visit Taj Mahal fell for all the nonsense on world wonder. When I got to getting on train it hit me the Hindu blood shed for cruel beauty and all those Hindus slaughter by the moghul line and I turned back and turned my back on going to see the Taj Mahal when I was five hours away. Even though a part of me wanted to honour the work of people who paid so dearly for creating this wonder...I was overwhelmed with images of sorrow and blood with which it was ultimately built and I turn back because I stead of a wonder it became a grotesque monument of cruel conquerors of what was once the most civilised and advanced Hindu sanatan dharma peace loving ancestors. I felt their pain.

What a character she is! from an era that shackled in name of draconian subjective dogmas of honor. Yet she bloomed how she could through poetry. Its a colorful world. People find dignity in the darkest of places and bloom like a lotus in muck. I have relatives like her brought up in stifling households and met many others surrounded by hedonism and mayhem; yet live with dignity and grace. A caged bird doesn't stop chirping.

The mortar used in India ever since 1st AD or even earlier was made up of fine sand fused paste of lime. During the period of construction 1oth century the ancient bricks from archaeological sites were beaten to rough powdery form into a gentle paste. Now they also started mixing rice or hay husk into this which gave bondage also weather resistance. When people find dried or decayed they make stories of 'dal or anda etc' Yes for the mural paintings on the walls or roofs of palaces or rich houses they for example on a wall face to be painted a mortar of lime with sand was applied as first layer for a base. Then fine lime paste obtained from fusing of lime stone to give a smooth surface then a brush of rice starch was applied to provide a perfect surface for paint to stay and to avoid blotting. The next was an artist's imagination of human figures, animals, birds or floral designs whatever he wanted to paint. Once this was finished then again a thin starch mixed to white of an egg was giving the final diaphragm to a painting. All this process was carefully processed so that the paint does not spread or leave its original surface of application.
This is the reason since this was usage of organic compound it keeps loosing its brightness with aging - you can observe this in any interior. The other reason is that they used torch 'mashal' or lamps for light during the darker hours.

racial stock in Pakistan is either Indian or Persian or Turkic or Caucasian. But at the end this is one of the greatest mixture of various ethnicities. This process continues eastwards as far as Bengal. As it progresses it lessens its own genetic streaks which keeps falling into aboriginal Indian stock. The clear example is starting from east to west you will find faces keeping differing. For example not like the Chinese or southeast Asians who resemble with each other of their kin or racial group. Sindhu Sauvira could be an ancient stock who got settled in the Indus valley around 6000 - 5000 years ago. Well this my own assessment and observations

Hundreds of such untold stories of women, who were raised as begums, well read, knowledgeable, well groomed, left alone in big houses after the parents passed away, the reason being that many a times they could not find suitable suitors for these ladies'. As they say, haddi se haddi aur boti se boti nahi mili. Raised in pardah and been catered to by the men of the house for outside needs, they were left to fend for themselves, and fend they did. Life was tough for them, there tehzeeb became the shackles that kept them a prisoner of their grandeur, long gone. Purani Anarkali, androon shehr, Choona Mandi, Krishan nagar witnessed the lives of many such Umm-e-Laylas and Umm-e-Farwas.
A very enriching historical episode. Thanku for going to lengths to do this videography/doc on such historical tenants. Much appreciate u educating those interested in the past and the connects with so. Shukriya ji🙏👍

Baalwala never disappoints, dil khush karditta paaji
I am an Indian Bengali Hindu and I have come across your channel today sir. I must say that these havelis in Lahore reminds me of the old buildings and houses in Old Calcutta and most of them are now in crumbling states.
I just realized rahat fateh ali khan has song with name khuda zameen sy gaya nhi, and those amazing lines belong to her, all credit to her
You just earned a new subscriber 🎉 the voices truly captivating as it takes the winding rode that is history thus informs us of the many things that are the history of the city of Lahore.

I am a descendant of Mughals branching from Aurangzeb's son Shahzada Muhammad Sultan from Nawab Bai (Rehmatunnisa Begum). I have shajra going all the way back to Chingez Khan. She is not the only one around. There are plenty of us.
