Remember when everyone said Leo wasn't good cause he depended on Ike and Ike is supposedly easy for anyone to use? Now he runs like 5 characters. Where are these critics now? They've gotten much quieter.
Has to be two of the best commentators in the business right now. Great explanation of what is goin on and funny jokes are what makes me enjoy the fight. See you in Houston 💪🏾
I really loved the Palutena’s follow up, I thought that it wold be worse in Ultimate than Wii U because of her grab game, but it isn’t, actually it’s better and I love it. Thanks Nairo for show us.
I'm having so much trouble with the Ike matchup can someone help me. Give me some tips, tell me some of Ike's weakness's or anything really, I just want to improve because I'm struggling to play against a good Ike player. Thank you
Ike can be predictable. It may take a specific counter pick to effectively edge guard, but he’s definitely exploitable off stage. He’s also vulnerable to projectiles. He’s slow with little horizontal mobility other than side b (predictable), so attack’s like Inkling roller are effective Snake, peach/daisy, Belmonts, Links, are all solid picks. Samus may be a little slow to take advantage of her projectiles. Even Marthcina and Roy who are just better in neutral are good as well. And as ArtPlays said, avoid his nair at all costs.
one thing nairo did exceptionally well in this set was calling out Leo's shorthops with Palutena's nair. Ike is going to want to short hop neutral air to get most of his stuff going, and if you can predict when he's going to jump and punish his jump before he swings out the nair, you can stuff out a lot of his pressure. besides that, remember that his recovery options are pretty limited.
Hi. Ike is my secondary :). The short answer I can give you is that you need to press Ike’s disadvantage state as hard as your character can. His heavy weight and and linear recovery options make him a tasty snack if you can chase him down (as Nairo does with Palutena f-air strings) or get a solid hit into a projectile. Comboing an Ike dummy in training mode helped me memorize some good string timings against him and other heavyweights. Chasing Ike will often lead to you dealing damage overall, obviously, but the real thing you’re fighting for is stage control. Ike is nuts when he a) has you cornered or b) is juggling you, so keeping him playing ledge games as long as possible will limit his main game plan. Neutral-wise, Ike is currently being played as a “combo swordsman,” with his main combo tools being fastfall n-air, down tilt, and grabs. All of these provide guaranteed follow ups and the attacks are both safe on shield, so if you’re in that range you should usually try to get out of there and read his approach options. Catching Ike’s short hop when goes for short hop fastfall n-air (as nairo did here with his own short hop n-airs) can be super effective, especially if you have a disjointed aerial. Also, like most sword characters, Ike needs to know (or read) where you’re going to be in order to box you in effectively, so dash dancing and mixing up your ground movement will make it much harder for him to pressure your shield or get the grab he’s conditioning you for. Small, fast characters will likely pull this strategy off a bit better than slower ones, but the general concepts still apply. I hope this helps.
He doesn't use counter even though he is getting hit continously with n airs. I think he underestimates the value that a well timed counter can bring to the table lol
How does the losers bracket work? Do people compete for a chance to come back to the winners bracket, or, so they just compete to be known as "the best loser"?
Everyone starts in winner's side. When you lose, you're sent to the loser's bracket where you get a second chance to survive. From there you'll need to play people that has also been sent to loser's (if you lose a single set here, you're out of the tournament) The person who makes it to Grand Finals from loser's, will have to beat the winner's side player twice to be the champion. This is so the winner's players is sent to loser's to meet the already loser's side finalist. On the other hand, the winner's bracket player just needs to win a single (usually Best of 5) set to take the trophy home.
The commentating was great for the most part but it got pretty biased at the end. The back and forth with that edge guarding was cool as hell but they just sounded disappointed that palutina didn't get the game
Leo gets baired offstage super early game 1 and Nairo counters the up-b, but then doesn't counter again for the free stock? Leo got washed, but damn, that could have been a career ender
Looking at both of them now, u can tell they are still getting used to the game. Current Nairo's Palu wouldve given Leo's Ike the work. Palu wasnt even Nairo's main back then.
I feel like mkleo would lose to a really high caliber samus, just because he always rolls away when someone crosses his shield, allowing free charge shots. It's really his one bad habit
Commentator was totally right about certain girls that discover Patreon. I've heard of some that make $10k+ a month, even one hitting $30k. The other two commentators obviously didnt want to go there but instead of making it awkward they could just acknowledge that yes this is a new and sometime profitable avenue for people to explore
Alright, I love nairo, but he needs to learn a bit more about palutena, he doesn't know the palutena 50/50, doesn't know that you cannot 2 frame her teleport if you started above the ledge, just the small stuff
Murilo Martinez honestly, as someone who’s rooting for Leo, he kind of did get his ass handed to him. 1-3 and got his ass clapped at the beginning of game 3.
It's great for catching rolls and possibly shield poking, but that's about it. His smash attacks are easily punishable in most cases, so in professional play it's typically better to use the huge range of his up & fwd smash to be at least marginally safer. Trust me, I see your point and use the down smash myself for generally good results, but I only play at a high quality casual level, so that's why I can get away with it. Frame data, hit boxes, and relatively linear functionality put it towards the bottom of most pro's toolkits. A shame I'd say, it could probably be a stellar mix-up that no one would expect in a tourney match.
Thorolf 25 Side smash is like...never practical. Just use side tilt. Up smash is also great for catching certain recoveries and opponents that make bad mistakes above you. Up tilt is a good quick kill option too, better for using as a surprise. But down smash is fairly fast as a strong smash attack in comparison to the others. Even all his strong aerial moves are some of the best options for taking stocks. Yeah it's not the best way of taking souls but it's still there.
@@sethdavis2506 yeah, I never said his smash attacks were good, being a heavy hitter he can kill with tilts and arials consistently, I'm just saying his down smash is only marginally faster, but has way less functions and not enough kill potential. If you're going to be bold and throw out a smash attack as Ike, just bc the down smash is faster doesn't make it the best choice, sometimes the larger hit box with the ridiculous kill potential that gives a lot of surface coverage is just safer. So in conclusion, when playing against skilled opponents, just don't smash attack; his tilts are close enough to one and have way less lag.
It only looks that way to the untrained eye. He actually has several mix-ups and build-your-own combos that make your options (and more specifically your choices) out of neutral really fun and interesting. Once you see that, it's a lot more fun to play as or against Ike!
