Will D/2 Clean These Headstones? Pt 2

D/2 Biological Solution is used by the Department of Veterans Affairs to keep marble headstones in National Cemeteries around the country sparkling white. So, how will it work on my family's headstones?
Process:
1. Wet stone
2. Apply D/2
3. Scrub with non-metallic brush and water
4. Rinse
5. Apply D/2 again.
6. Leave it!

Next time leave the peroxide and soap at home.... using only D/2, orvus soap or wet and forget is good policy. Peroxide can damage the stone over time! Great work!
Would you suggest biodegradable soap as a replacement for initial scrubbing? And then D2 and sit for a month?
@@ceilidhbond8917 biodegradable soap as in Orvus soap? I’ve never used it.... D/2 works so good I don’t know why anyone would use anything else.
The brown colour comes from a defensive reaction of certain moulds and lichens and shows they are dying or dead! You don't always get that. Getting the stones fully clean can sometimes take several months... The stuff dies very quickly, but takes time to break-down and get weathered away. I normally scrub just enough to be able to read inscriptions, and leave the rest to nature.
That’s good advice. Over scrubbing can definitely wear down the stones. I tried to not scrub to hard, but I also use enough elbow grease to see some results.

No brushes with plastic, only Tampico or nylon, water is a headstones best friend D/2 is fantastic used lightly
I do cleaning of military and family stones as well for a long time. I also use D2 . You NEVER us a brush with bristles harder than a horsebrush or tooth brush on a grave stone!!!
It damages the stone. You may not see damage scratches now but in the future you can tell. What you dont get off with the horsebrush, nature and D2 does!

They all came out great. How much D2 did it take for those headstones and did you have done left over? Looking fwd to part 3.
After finishing all 9 footstones and the two upright headstones, I still had some left over in the bottle!
The type of brush you use is important. Nylon brushes will scratch the stone - it is recommended to use fiber brushes. D/2 or Orvus are all that have been tested and recommended to clean stones.

Why did you not make part 3 to show us the results? I hear many UA-camrs talk about how the stone will get much better over time (using D2) but have not seen any followup pics... here's how the stone looks 1 month later, 3 months later, 6 months later. etc. I'm not convinced the stones actually get cleaner, brighter etc over time. hope I'm wrong.
Wow, the difference is amazing. You can really see how much growth can accumulate judging by all the other stones in the area as well. Are there lots of trees in the area that would be the cause of this?
My favorites photos are the ones where I have cleaned half, and you can really see the difference. There are a few trees, but they are not very close to these stones. My aunt says that years ago there used to be a tree nearby, but it died and was removed.
Take a toothbrush to do the lettering and numbers to get them clean, just a suggestion is all?

Best trick ever to read a gravestone that’s not readable anymore, next to D2 is the aluminum foil trick.
Talc powder will also work and then wash away not harming the stone to my knowledge
Yeah it looks they have very wet winters there.With leaves falling on the gravestones and such wet weather the stones become discolored by the rotting leaves.
Was there a part 3 video to see if the yellow ever came off?

So i love seeing the outcome from all your cleaned stones. Do you happen to know how to get rid of the light brown or yellow stains that just won't come off ? I see more where im from that come from flower hangers from metal. I just cant seen to get it all. Is there a way ?

Well did they come out brighter after a time? I cleaned my grandparents granite headstone today (erected in 1932) and when I left it was mostly pinkish brown!! Scary!!
I cleaned some veteran stones today. I did not get any foam from the d2. How did you get that?
They should seal the stones after engraving so this won’t occur
Sealing the stones is very damaging.... the stone needs to be able to breathe and shed and absorb water normally.
and how do you do that and what do you use. just asking
They make an attachment brush for a cordless drill and a product called Simple Green, those will clean those headstones sparkly .
A lot of people recommend against using any power tools. Abrasive brushes may scrape off some stone and turn it bright white, but it may also accelerate erosion.
Power tools are an absolute no no..... and simple green isn’t recommended either. Wet and forget works well with a sit time of about 2 weeks
