  • Hi Guys, in this video I show you what I've been up to, to help save me money at home. I've finally finished the winter jobs, hung my thermal curtain and put my foil covered cardboard behind the radiators.
    I've also prepped all the food I could, from the pantry so it lasts as long as possible, and nothing gets wasted.
    Thanks for watching :)

    I remember in the 70’s we had no central heating, dad used to get up first and make the coal fire and a big pot of tea. We used to bring our clothes downstairs and get dressed in front of the fire. I used to sleep in a double bed with my 2 sisters and we had a hot water bottle for warmth, there was always ice on the inside of the windows during winter. Guess what? We’re all still alive! Modern society has made us all soft, there are lots of things we can do without, or make do with what we’ve got. Lizzy, you’re an inspiration to many, me included. A tip… after you’ve had a bath, don’t drain the water immediately, the warm water will heat the bathroom up. Love to you all, keep warm. Xxx

      Hahaha I was saying exactly the same the other day. No heating in schools freezing winters ice inside windows itchy blankets on beds. 51 years later I’m still here 😊

    I see that you had them in some limes and you were going to slice, & freeze them. Well what we do here at home is we juice them into an ice cube tray and stick it in the freezer. After frozen we put them into a freezer ziplock bag. That way that we could use them to make lemonade or limeade or what ever you might want to use them for. Any time of the year hassle free.

    My frugality holds no bounds..if I run a shallow bath to freshen up..I use the used water..and add a small amount of clothes washing liquid..then add the clothes from washing pile..I proceed to walk on them..till they are thoroughly washed..squeeze dry and transfer to washing machine..use spin mode..then set on rinse and spin..result.. clothes washed in half the time..saving electricity..and of course re-purposing perfectly good warm water..😉

    My heating cost for natural gas went
    from $55 equal billing to $93 a month. We’re wearing sweaters but my one guy won’t keep his socks on. Things in Ontario have increased so much. Trying to stretch my meals as much as possible. I get tired of eating the same things but I cook what’s reasonable

      Very expensive everywhere at the moment, yes I feel sometimes I would like to be able to eat what I fancy and not what I have to because that's what I can afford. Keep going you're doing great 💕

    Make your own sausage rolls for xmas... mix sausages ( removed from the skins) with stuffing and a bit of Cranberry sauce and maybe a bit of bacon. xxx

      I've just done this, but without the stuffing. I will try with stuffing next time, as I love sausage rolls xxx💕

    Feeling cold is a common symptom of post Covid. I see you wear hooded with pockets and I know you are crafty! I sewed myself small bags of rice with a bit of lavender and keep them in my pockets. They need a couple of seconds in the microwave to warm up. Brilliant video!

    • @frugallizzybee
      @frugallizzybee  2 роки тому

      That's exactly what I did today, made them a while ago and totally forgot to use them. They kept me toasty and warm while I was going about doing my jobs. Thank you 💕

    My mom went to the feed store and bought flaxseed. She made a small pillow and put in lavender. I would microwave that pillow before bed. It did make the bed warm.

    If you cut lettuce with a metal knife it will oxidise on the edges. Tearing it or using a plastic knife will prevent that from happening (apparently!)

    • @frugallizzybee
      @frugallizzybee  2 роки тому +2

      Yes the ends where I cut turned brown, the rest was fine though 💕

      Also store lettuce in a ziploc storage bag and as you zip it close, squeeze the air out of bag. It will look shrinked wrapped. I do this and my lettuce will last for a month. Air is its enemy.

      I wrap lettuce in kitchen paper or a serviette before I put it into the ziplock bag this prevents it sweating.

    Hello 🤗 Have you tried thermal layers (clothing)? Tesco do some great thermal long sleeved tops, and matching and leggings that you can wear under your usual clothes. They're not expensive either. I bought men small size when I got mine, as they were on sale x

    Hi, Lizzy I know that cold feeling well😞 ever since I contracted Lyme disease about 15 yrs ago, As soon as I sit still I’m cold from the inside out. Just finished sewing liners for drapes today; now to get them ready to hang tomorrow. We had our first snow, it was beautiful, but all melted now. Take care. from: Susan

    I was seriously ill in intensive care with Covid last September (2021) and over a year later I am still suffering side effects...one of them is my temperature. I can be on fire 1 minute and the next minute I'm freezing ....exhaustion is a major issue following covid ....so I would say how you're feeling is normal post covid .... hopefully you will be back to normal soon x

    You often talk about the food your son takes to school. I was wondering what you use to keep certain food items warm in his lunchbox? I found it difficult keeping cocktail sausages warm let alone curry etc. Thank you in advance for your comment xx

      If you blanch it before freezing, it keeps well, and then only needs a few minutes to cook. To blanch veggies, boil up some water in a pan and then add the veggies. Let it come back to the boil, then scoop out the veggies and dunk them for a couple of minutes in really cold water. Drain well, and then freeze them.
