I love how in every reaction video I watch of this episode, everyone is totally FLABBERGASTED that Dipper is bullying Thompson. It’s like he’s everyone’s kid and we’re all disappointed in him.
@@Travel__SpinTHANK YOU. People constantly harp on Mabel’s mistakes but completely forget the time Dipper started a freakin’ zombie apocalypse just to prove a point.
@@jbleichmanHe’s not perfect, but I think the show generally makes it more clear with him that he does normally take accountability for his mistakes. While both he and Mabel have numerous selfish moments, the frustration that people have with Mabel comes with the fact that she doesn’t seem to grow from the selfish decisions she makes. I think that the reason for this is because Dipper’s selfishness in his love for Wendy and his desire to fit in are much more established character traits that Dipper gets time and focus to develop and grow from. Mabel’s selfishness doesn’t get as much focus, and as a result, she doesn’t get as much growth. Because of this, she retains a lot of her negative traits at the end of the show, and people became frustrated with her character.

The pouring out of the drink is a classic meme, you'd watch an old black and white film and something weird would happen and the drunk character would pour out their drink to signify they gave it up because they believe the alchohol was making them see things and it was time to give up drinking.

The escalating joke with Grunkle Stan's balloon is one of the best I've seen not only in the entire series but most modern Western kids shows. I had to pause the episode for a good five minutes the first time I saw it because I was laughing so hard. The final shot of the mother clutching her son as the burning Stan balloon descends on them with dramatic music is a masterclass in comedic timing. The only other series I can think of in the last 20 years that had such an amazing buildup of jokes was ATLA with the "Ember Island Players" episode.
Originally, the creator Alex Hirsch wanted to include some LGBT elements into this episode like a gay couple kissing and the Love God wearing a chain with the same gender symbols intertwined with each other. But of course, Disney shut him down. So he snuck in a rainbow sweater (the one that Mabel is wearing).
I knew someone would comment this. Honestly, with all due respect, let it go. You guys are acting as if the love confession of nameless, present in this episode only, background characters would have cured the world homophobia or something.

The thing about Dipper and Mabel is that, throughout the series, they...don't really change. Like, at all. They are, however, the agents of change for pretty much everyone around them.
