Apple is doing the same as Tesla, Apple wants you to buy a new phone instead of having it repaired.
Thanks for being here Scotty! Stick around.
"Flying fairies", I don't like Lindsey Graham; Scotty. Light in the loafers!
holy crap! Great Video, once again Scotty, ty.
Ya, and the guy whose tesla's steering wheel come off...I hope he's on the top of the list.
If I can't work on a vehicle myself I don't want it.
I’ll work on it!
get a wheelbarrow
that is getting to be most vehicles now.
You dont own a John Deer do ya?
Better buy something made before at least 2016. But yeah, it's getting ridiculous.
I live in southern calif and Teslas are EVERY.WHERE here. Must be a million or so of those cars here. But one thing doing automotive work taught me, it practically never pays to be first to buy an unproven product...
SoCal here too Orange County seriously 2000 a day I see
Northern California even more.
First? lol. Teslas been around over 10 years
They have been sold for 10 years now. (Hot news flash). Many many of them with 100 or 200 thousand mikes and NO repairs. Huh?
@@TheAxolotldotneteveryone knows that vehicles last out there, but where they use salt and you have big weather differences? R that's a whole different situation and the majority of people live in a much harsher area
I couldnt imagine owing a Toyota and waiting 1 year for a waterpump, and if i went to an independent shop my warranty gets voided. What a scam!
Toyota?! Cool story bro
Not only Tesla denies service or parts to their customers. Toyota does it too. I paid for a hundred thousand miles extended warranty and Toyota never honor this transaction they sent me a letter stating that they will not provide me service anymore and my car only had 82,000 miles plus so I recommend not to buy extended service at any dealer cause they’re only looking at your pocket. After all everything’s business only. Toyota dealers are crooked too.
Tell me about it. I went to the Petaluma Toyota dealer in California for my ‘18 Camrys clunking/hesitating transmission. They told me they didn’t find anything but that it was “normal”. However, I got in and looked at dash cam footage and the tech said “oh they’re talking about this hesitation, they all do that”. Charged me $210, never again! They didn’t even reset the transmission bc it didn’t “qualify” for the TSB!! A bunch of crooks!
Subaru, too - rip off artists, every last one of them
Same for my father.
That's hard to believe.
People who buy Teslas are getting exactly what they deserve. They are so invested in Status that they forego common sense and buy something with no means of repair!
As a Tesla owner, there is very few things that needs repairing or maintenance. There is no oil change, transmission fluid that needs changing, power steering fluids change, engine air filters, master cylinder, alternator, water pump, power brake booster, valve cover gasket, engine mounts, vacuum hoses, mass air flow sensor, I can go on and on.
Dumb cars for stupid people.
Actually, they invested in stupidity! I will never, ever own a Tesla car.
@@samanthajones4877 It's all fine and dandy. Just keep your Tesla for 10+ years, so it doesn't harm the environment more than a gasoline car. 👍
@HoejeTaarn We won't talk about how making all the parts of a gasoline car helps the environment or the things to keep it maintain over its life cycle or fueled.
Here's an amusing observation: When a Tesla vehicle is repaired Tesla sends a van to where the vehicle is. The van is always gasoline powered. What does that say about how confident Tesla actually is about their vehicles. They make this goofy looking Cybertruck yet they don't make an electric van to send for servicing their own vehicles.
Same with politicians. Gas powered vehicles to escort.
If you're farther than the range of the battery would you rather they stop to charge?
🤣🤣🤣
This is incorrect. If you do have to have home service and don't want to take it in, the Model S is specially equipped as the service car.
@@aussie2uGA All of the repair vehicles I have personally seen pulled up to people's houses to fix Tesla's have been gasoline powered vans. While it is possible that the Model S or any other model could be outfitted to be a service car they certainly don't have the space a van would have. My point is, if Musk thinks electric cars and specifically the Tesla, is such a reliable vehicle why don't they make vans to service their own vehicles?
I have a guy in my street who just bought a Cyber truck. Thanks to Scotty, I always have a good laugh when I walk my dog past his house.
Been waiting 6 months for a refurbished ABS computer module on my 2012 GMC---because GMC stopped making them. I just bought a Toyota and will never own an American car ever again.

@@Durango_Greyman Who cares? These American brands are garbage. It's as if these auto makers never tried to improve their brand or remain competitive with Toyota and Honda. Good riddance!
A friend has not been able to get one, for her Corvette! Looking for several years!
I have a 2006 Tundra. Have had to replace and fix several thousand dollars in parts. The rear end differential is not very robust for towing and easily breaks down. Parts for the rear are none existent or have to come from the junk yard. Also
the underside rusts out prematurely. However, the engine is bulletproof and will probably run for 300k+. It also has lousy brakes. El stupido tire pressure sensors, and emergency brake issues.
All easily upgraded

Squishy brakes?
I have an 06 Tundra. 6 cylinder. I've put 280,000 miles on and it's still the best vehicle I've ever owned
I worked in Auto Salvage Yard decades ago. There was a phone network system called the "Hot Line". Connecting yards over an entire region.
You can drive for years on good used parts. Seen a bunch of low mileage cars and trucks and lots of parts still functioning. And it's gravy if the part you need is factory, pristine, junk yard queen!
That was decades ago. How many Teslas have you seen in salvage yards?
@@robertvanruyssevelt7159 I recently tried to get parts for a 90's Toyota Hilux from salvage yards. Even Toyota specialist yards did not have parts for anything over 20 years.

Stopped at Dodge dealer to look at nice Ram pickup. Sticker was $124,115 which is steep but it is a high end TRX model. The dealer mark-up was $50,000, bringing the total price to $174,115. Highway robbery?
An interesting question is what happens when Tesla discontinues some models. Will Tesla stop making parts for them that are not shared with newer models?
To be fair most manufacturers only legally obliged to make parts for 5 years. Unless independent supplies keep the parts going or special interest vehicle you are in trouble.
It pays to do due diligence on parts availability before buying an older car.
Westinghouse and General Electric should reopen their facilities in Pennsylvania where my grandparents worked with many of their friends, if the USA wants REAL ELECTRIC AUTOMOBILES.

Oh, like apple google Samsung John Deere Shall I go on?
Is John Deere the only one to do that, or are they just the poster child for an industry wide problem?
@@joewoodchuck3824 poster child. Apple is notorious for it too. Apple may even be more offensive about what they do
@@ScottRoofwalker It's unfortunate then that JD seems to be taking all of the flak for the other companies. I don't feel sorry for them mind you, but they certainly are part of the problem.
I thought there was a court decision a while back that ruled against JD. As far as I know the court essentially forced them to supply software, but that they also didn't comply. It's sort of ok though since at least one off shore company was selling "alternative" software. It's a shameful mess.
U need to remove Samsung from your list. Samsung has lots of authorized 3rd party repair places that you can go to repair their products and not just a Samsung store. It is one of the reasons I have chosen to buy Samsung phones over Apple phones (besides the fact that they are superior in almost every way).
@@ericdavis2312 Samsung has a clause in their authorized repair center agreements that says if the repair center finds non Samsung parts to siege the phone and send it back to Samsung…. Your phone. Pretty cool huh? They may not act on it, but it’s part of the deal
that's a shame. I hate when I needed a part for any car I had.....like my '96 Lexus ES....a cluster of sensors. It's really not honorable at all. As long as the car is "out there" parts should be available!
That's one reason I won't buy an electric vehicle if you're traveling on the highway and you can
t charge your car you an't going anywhere
Ha, sounds like a horror movie plot.
There are six million Telsas running around out there already that do not have that issue.
Yep. And when the power goes out due to a natural disaster (earthquake, hurricane, etc) and power is going to be out for a few weeks, anyone with an electric car is gonna be hurting. One thing I learned when living in Florida is that when a storm is coming, you fill some empty gas cans so you have fuel. Electric cars are a niche product which will never be practical for universal use.
@@garymunson2493 Maybe not in your area. But in many parts of the country, it's difficult to find a viable charger. Seattle was in the news last week because the majority of charging locations there are non-functional. Some of them are just broken but most of them are down because people keep steeling the copper wiring. And Seattle isn't alone. There similar news stories every week about a different part of the country experiencing similar issues with charging locations. If you live in an area where charging isn't an issue, great. But it's foolish to assume that the whole world looks exactly like the view from your front door.
@@Rusty_Shackleford099 for Florida it is very practical: you just use your solar panels which run your pool to charge your Tesla, while everybody else is sitting in long lines at gas stations. It is always warm, your battery capacity never diminished due to cold, you never waste your charge to heat your car and seats. If you don't need to go anywhere, you can tap your battery for electricity, and use the battery to absorb solar power when it has no use. EV, like F-150 Lightning is even more useful, and designed around these ideas. The only thing I am not sure about, is it's performance at boat ramp: if lithium meets water, ouch...
More bad news for EV owners, 2 out of 3 dealerships in Germany will not accept used EVs because they are seen as not profitable to sell.
Doesn’t STELANTIS …aka Dodge,Ram, not share their computer software to fix their vehicles unless a service company buys the very expensive software with a lot of strings attached seem about the same as not making “parts” available due to the prohibitive costs in relation to the cost of the repair ?
I believe you're correct, but don't own a Stellantis vehicle nor am I likely to in the near future. All of our vehicles are Japanese bands
This is correct. I own a ram and was just at a body shop for an accident and they said the same thing. They have to call in a third party with a fancy scan tool to read stellantis stuff. They said jeep is the worst of all stellantis products.
@@wrench8149 my neighbor had a tow hitch installed on his Jeep and the lighting for a trailer had to be programmed by their propriety software.
they all do that now. cant just go get a cheapo code reader anymore.
It's all part of the plan for us to buy electric. People are keeping vehicles longer because of the insane cost of newer vehicles and all of the newer stuff has become less reliable and harder to fix. If it's not proprietary that only a dealer can access. They don't even know what batteries or plug they are going to use and that's if the charger works and all the while we're all paying the car company's with taxpayer money to buy all the electric until the power goes out and voltage spikes and Don't forget global warming and more severe storms and more lightning strikes and flooding. What can go wrong? YOUR WALLET? don't forget the supply chain to get your parts from half a world away because it's cheaper?
This was like this from the beginning but people openly bought into all of it because they were saving the world. No smoke and mirrors it looked sketchy from the beginning.
I work for a foreign business in east Ala. that takes body panels and coats bare metal in black. Los Angeles sends loads of doors and hoods fenders weekly.
Good discussion, Scotty. Being a former Californian, I heard the same news that Teslas cannot be fixed with collision parts quickly and efficiently. Old Elon is an oligarch, no doubt. On our trip across the US from California to Delaware, we only saw 2 Teslas on the interstate. So, you cannot get spare parts and get the infrastructure to get you across country in five days. GMCCA is another story. Having serviced them for 4 years, it is like working with the US Government. Too much IATF work with GM (quality standards). Not ever planning to buy a GM or Tesla vehicle!
Apparently Elon Musk never heard of Henry Ford. In order to be truly successful your vehicles have to be readily available and affordable. There are a lot of Tesla car owners in my neighborhood for some reason. Now there is at least one Cybertruck owner. It is even worse than I heard. It looks like a reject from “Logan’s Run.” I saw the first electric Hummers at a local GMC dealer this past weekend. The lowest price was $142,000. Who the hell can afford these things?!
Disposable plug in cars.
Anybody that buys a Tesla is a bozo
You didn't look. Plenty of footage. What vehicle have you seen Elon drive

Have a 2015 Canyon 2.4. Engine failed need cam. Been waiting 2 years for parts
Why did u buy that car
I have 3 Teslas, only 2 repairs which are the 12 volt battery. They cost less than $100 included labor. 200k miles total, zero maintenance done. Try that on your gas car.
Time will tell
Some win on the game of roulette. Some even win the lottery. When somebody hits you, you still won't be able to fix it.
Would you drive your Teslas cross country? Do it under 3 days like a petrol car.
you mus drive like miss daisy if youve never replaced tyres ,
Bam! Same experience here..
What I don't get is the "Full Synthetic" schtick. Oil not only lubricates, but it also collects debris from friction and unburnt fuel etc. When oil is saturated with contaminants it no longer is lubricating the engine as intended. So how does a full synthetic oil capture and hold more particulates than standard oil?
Oil get dirty, still lubricates.
It's not about it being dirty. It's really not that complicated you get a can of grease there's the High Temp kind and then the cheaper standard grease. That's the difference it's better Before it gets dirty and it lasts longer. If the oil is dirty and burnt you need to change it either way. But you use the better kind if you want to get more time out of it. The oil filter is what filters oil otherwise they wouldn't even use filters, your acting like the oil attracting dirt and carbon is good I guess in terms of cleaning it is but that's not the main goal.
You are CORRECT ! It doesn't ! As you know, when it's dirty oil, it's time to change it, around 3,ooo miles or so, give or take up to maybe as much as 4,500 miles, no more. Due to the operating characteristics of the engine, that's what determines oil change intervals.
Thanks for sharing Scotty !
I am in my mid 60's and have always bought my vehicles. I did not understand leasing if I didn't have a business to write if off against, so I stayed away from that avenue. I have never had any problems with my 2004 V-6 Camry (240,000 miles), 2000 F-150 (190,000 miles) and 2014 Civic (120,000 miles) All three are running great, but they are staring to show their age. I'm going to be in the market for a new car soon and it seems that all the vehicles lately are garbage and not designed to last. Maybe now it's time I get on the lease bandwagon, unload it after 3 years and continue to ride that merry-go-round. Just not sure.
I don't know. A car payment for the rest of your life? That's not appealing at all.

The problem with eletric is not the motors. Its the power system. See Aircraft carriers use onboard nuclear reactors, and they have no problem being 100,000 tons and the fastest big ships on the water at the same time.

At first, I promised myself I'm never buying a tesla or any all electric car. Now that I know how unreliable they are and there are not enough charging stations around town. Now the parts problem. Yeah, I'm sticking with gas cars for the rest of my life.
There's gonna be, or there's already millions of 5 year old EV's that no one is ever gonna buy 🙃 Starting up a business to scrap EV's ''enviroment friendly'' would be a nobrainer....

Service and parts was the primary reason I decided to sell my Model 3. I was able to overlook the shoddy quality control and potential long term viability (or lack thereof), but the fact that the closest service center was 30 miles away and I could only order parts through them was a deal breaker for me.

Ok I'll bite... What parts would be needed for a Model 3 unless you crash it?

So it's hard to compare with the engine in your internal combustion vehicle. At 16 cents a kWH at home you get a range 4 miles that's 40 miles for $1.60
Thats the thing, owners love their Teslas while the media hates Elon and will smear the company every opportunity they can. Sad.

@@mrgarrison3516 nope. The coolant has no pressure and no heat, those are the things that break down the glycol and components. The coolant simply circulates around like on a cpu. There are authorized Tesla repair shops. There is one less than three miles from my son's house. It is in Sorrento Valley (part of San Diego)
And there are many who are 300 miles away from the closest authorized service station….
Scotty said, "in many areas" and that's correct.
Thank You again for another well done video 👍
I hope this is true. It’s an enter point for more shares!
The noise in that Mercury Sable engine sounded like a worn out pulley or tensioner.
Hahaha this is not Boston
This confirms what I suspected all along to be true. Thank you for confirming this. Scam. Awful.
I got rid of an 18 Sierra because no parts were available for my failing torque converter. Tried for 10 weeks. Took my chance with a 24 Rogue-lifetime warranty per Scotty
You’re gonna need that warranty for that rouge. Nissans are worse than some GMs. Nissan is majority stock owned by Renault, if anything is remembered about the French cars in America it’s how they tended to surrender very easily. They were unremarkable fuel sippers with questionable build quality ( anyone remember the LeCar? )
@@matthewcaughey8898 no doubt. Thankfully we also have a 1978 Thunderbird and 2004 Grand Marquis! Something should run!
If you only do a low mileage each year you're better off with a gasoline powered than a hybrid or full electric.
Used Tesla superchargers on 2 road trips in my Rivian, worked like a charm. Ford and Rivian are the only OEMs that can use Tesla Superchargers. Thankfully this happened before Elon’s temper tantrum firings.
Ya'll ever watched the videos by that guy who makes those crazy split wheel bicycles? He's a mechanical genius.
Foiling Boats are not new! The Netherland have them and Russia. Sorry but only because you don't know it, it does not mean that they don't exist. Electric ones can work, because the most power you need is to get them on the foils.
Scotty can thank California for legally supporting independent mechanics against Tesla. CA isn't so bad after all.
Tesla is the next Enron!
How long did the cell phone companies finally get together and come up with a universal charger? Well it's going to take much longer for this
There's a universal charger?
@@joewoodchuck3824 well for all Android's there is now. I don't know for those crappy apple products though I stay far away from Apple products
Thanks 👍
7.21.2024 . . . gent with his new $70,000 Ford F-150 Lightning barely made it the 141 miles from Little Rock to Harrison, Arkansas without a charge. The only place to re-charge in (17,000 pop.) Harrison was at the Ford dealer!
In Consumer Report's latest maintenance study, Tesla had the lowest 10-year maintenance and repair cost at $4035. Toyota and Buick were second at $4900, Ford $5400, Honda $5835, Lexus $6750, BMW $9500, Mercedes-Benz $10525, and Land Rover $19250. Tesla also had the lowest 5-year maintenance and repair cost at $580.
So how long does the Tesla battery last and what does it cost to replace? Just wondering.
@@Sue-rg2tu Model 3's well over 200k miles on original batteries and still going. Maintenance is tires and thats it.
If you search for the 2014 Tesla model s that has 434,000 for airport taxi still on its original battery and motors. I don’t know too many people that keep a car that many miles but there’s proof they can last a very long time 😮
Consumer Reports, lol. They used to be reliable, now, I would take anything they say with a grain of salt.
@@aussie2uGAbs, u still have brakes shocks ball joints all suspension parts , anything that moves, is wearing out
That's what happens when you buy a car based solely on emotion😰. No logical thinker would ever buy one of these things.🤔
Yet Tesla still has a higher market cap than Toyota.
"There's a sucker born every minute"
😂
Thank you Scotty for the info on Tesla parts. i will be sure to pass it along.
What about underwater objects.
Sounds like the same practice as Apple. Is Tesla really the only EV manufacturer that has a long delay on parts and fixing them?
Can still get parts for a Ford Model T
I towef a 2003 Daturm Oon for gree in 2009. I figure o put in $150/yr. in repairs. I fid most by myself.
So, my daily driver for 15 years should give me 2 x 170,000 miles until it may die - maybe!
I'm 63. If necessary, my next car will be a 3800 V6 Oldsmobile. Ill buy it on my cc and pay it off in 2 months!
I change my oil myself at no more than 2500 klms.
Freinds say that's too much, but i like amber oil in my engine. 15 year, 2093 Saturn is good for a 15 year daily driver!
Electric drive boat. ? Better not forget to put the drain plug in before launching 😅
Ever taken a cruise or been on a ferry? All of them use electric drive motors to turn the props.
