Starship Troopers (the film) is one of the best science fiction movies ever made and is a brilliant, thought-provoking satire of a fascist utopia. Somehow even today the movie is obtusely misunderstood by some people who fall for the same fetishization of courage and citizenship that the film is lampooning. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it!!
"satire of a fascist utopia" except there is nothing fascist in the movie. the leaders take and accept the blame and punishment for their failures, people have the right to choose not to join the military and are in fact discouraged from joining, and people who choose not to take part in government service are not second class citizens. that is literally the opposite of fascism.
I found one!
@@JayborinoPlays you said i'm misunderstanding it, prove me wrong. what is fascist in the movie? one scene, that shows the government forcefully taking control of the civilian population? at least in the video you got the vocabulary right, jingoistic is an accurate enough definition, but fascism is not.
I’m fine with you self-reporting. It’s been over 20 years of this discussion, so I’m good, thanks.
I agree it is a good movie, I plan on reading the book, and comics at some point
I watch Starship Troopers at least twice a year. It's the most refined mix of dystopia, sci-fi and space opera ever brought to the screen. And as you've mentioned in the pinned mousetrap, a satirical subtext of the source is being told P E R F E C T L Y throughout the whole film.
Do you want to know more? Hell yeah!
Also at 10:00 I think the term Mobile Infantry made more sense in the book. There they wore power armour and could rocket jump, meaning they were very extremely mobile. Kinda like how in the real world you would have Light Infantry, Motorised Infantry, Mechanised Infantry, Armoured Infantry, etc as different types of infantry depending on the equipment they used and their roles.
Ya think it said in the book, cus of the suit it makes them mobile infantry and if they didnt then they would just be infantry
The movies were actually meant as a mockery of the book at least from what I’ve read on TV tropes and whilst I can see why people may like the movies I personally would’ve liked it more if it was more based on the books.
I come from Buenos Aires and I say WATCH'EM ALL!
Oh man this truly is a new age. I am actually really excited to see this.
I loved the original starship troopers. Paul van Veerhoven is a great director.
New content new age of jayborino 🔥✌🏿

@JayborinoPlays I'm doing my part!
Can 100% agree with you man, Starship Troopers is probably one of my favorite sci-fi movies. It's just so perfect in how self-aware it is.
This is the best tutorial/walkthrough that I have seen.
I love this game, it includes also units from the less fortunate sequels of the first film
*Desire To Know More Intensifies*
I'd say it still qualifies as RTS because you can choose your tools (strategy part), unike true RTTs where you should use the tools you've been given.
In this game you can not only replenish your forces but also choose what exactly to train to adapt to the situation at hand, which is to me a sign of "S" in RTS.
Just my opinion, of course.
I agree!
I think its a mix of both, sometimes you can choose what to use and sometimes you need to manage with the given equipment.
I am so happy to see you played and posted it on your Channel!!!
Think I must try this game. Also love the movie, did watch the movie like 3 weeks ago. Great playtrought as always
The reason why they're called the mobile infantry is because in the books they're supposed to be in power armor. Unfortunately that's a bit hard on the budget for a small-scale 1997 CGI movie. So unfortunately, Casper Van Dien got basically just a flak jacket and an M16 with extra sprew on it.
Unfortunate, but i think they invested a lot in CGI to make the arachinds more real,if it was made at this time they would make the mobile infantry worthy of its name, its more a lumbering infantry in the movie if you ask me.
And not any power armor, flying power armor !
Ooo this will be the greatest game that you played for this year,i heard a lot of great things about this game and movies, brilliant sci-fi fiction and gameplay is different from other RTS games that i have seen so that's the most interesting thing for me.
I'm glad to finally seeing you play this
That veterancy mechanic is pretty cool, it kinda reminds me of that unused kill count rank thing in Starcraft 1.
And in Starcraft 2. I mean, it's there, but it doesn't do anything stats wise. I like how Total War handles this. The ranks give bonuses, but they're not overpowered or all that vital either.
If i remember correctly in CnC there is also that mechanic, but instead of giving you abilities it promotes your units making them more powerful statwise.
3:50 Its actually implied that the bugs never attacked earth and it was a false flag operation to justify the war against the bugs as well as gain more recruits for the war.
Ngl I always thought that target prioritization always existed but I never realized it existed until I re-installed the game.
What a funny coincidence I just started playing this game a few days ago.
Excited to see how you will handle the missions.
Always wanted an rts game with base building about starship troopers. The closest we got is starcraft.
NUKE 'EM RICO!!!
I told Jayborino to try this game with pleasure Jayborino 😎
The Federation may be militaristic, but this was a reaction to the attack of the bugs. They were the aggressors, not the other way around. War is part of the Federation, but they had to evolve that way to survive the war. The book from Heinlein is slightly different, but even there the Federation was the only answer to a society, falling apart. The book wasn´t ironic. The movie was in a aesthetic kind of way. The Federation had gender-equality, race equality. Not so bad, if you look it that way.
I love the movies and this game is realy solid. I had a good time playing throu the campaign
YOU WANNA LIVE FOREVER
To be clear, I'm here for the gameplay, not the politics(that dead horse has been beaten flatter than authentic viennese steak by this point). Speaking of movie, most would agree it did a vast improvement on the bug design in general, yes? For the plasma bugs, those buggers have range of war40k planetary defence lasers if the can hit ships in orbit (something shown in movies and animations). Fun fact, movie rico being sort-of blond(he's filipino in the book, iirc) was taken from the original japanese anime (which is now sadly lost to time, being recorded on laser disc of all media, yet can still be viewed, if you know where to look).
Promising series by Jay as always, getting popcorn for next time.
I'm doing my part!
In lots of smaller-time modern releases I notice that the music sounds like someone was afraid to play it, it kind of takes away from the atmosphere for me. It's nonexistent for large parts of gameplay here, and when it shows up it's not particularly lively. Not a major thing, just something that came to my mind I guess
Regarding the grenade achievement, the grenades (while powerful) usually aren't enough to outright kill bugs at full health. So if you watched closely, you just stunned most of the bugs that you hit with grenades in the first mission.
Regarding veterancy bonuses, I'm *pretty* sure that it does improve stats like fire rate. This should be pretty easy to observe to test it.
Seems like that kind of achievement would be made really difficult with how they do the difficulty settings as just a damage % change
OMFG ST mode haha WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW MORE love that movie GG M8
Have you watched "Knowing Better's" video about starship troopers?
I have not, but I just added it to my Watch Later queue, thanks
I didn't know Starship Troopers started as a book I thought it started as a movie.
Every good Sci-Fi movie with coherent setting, lore and plot came from books
@@dimbaszi wonder when was the book made?
This is the perfect society.. if the goal of humanity was to kill bugs.
Only good bug is a dead bug!
the movie director never read the book he was told what the book was about and made a satire on what he was told so its basically a second hand story satire
I see this a lot but the movie could exist without the source material and be thematically excellent all the same.
Then perhaps he was the first who did so(unsure about first dune movie as well), and now it seems rampant(examples aplenty).
First😊
Man i want a live action Starship trooper movie so baddd 😢
Pick between 3(yes, 3) live-actions, 1 old anime and 2 '10s anime movies, and 1 us 3d animation. Or all of them.
@@ivanivanovic5586 the one thats actually good
@@Z2Hades Good point. Worse is, current hollywood would completely and utterly butcher the live-action adaptation.
Now that I had a bit of time to remember those mentioned, the anime and 3d bits are "thought-provoking" as Jay put it. The latter follows a reporter attached to rico's unit (led by the recruiter guy prior to his retirement and grooming rico to take it over), shows how the reporter has to curate his footage (some he can use as-is, some had to be scrapped altogether and some edited), they get a robot and an alien squadmate(both earn the unit's respect after initial misgivings). 3d is rough around edges tho. The anime movies can be good if action is more your thing with small politics on side.
@@ivanivanovic5586 i respect you for speaking facts and being serious about it. Most ppl dont give a crap about this kind of topic
@@ivanivanovic5586 I watched the 3d animated series a long time ago. I remember I quite enjoyed them.
tihs doesn't quite look like an rts, there's no building, or anything, just moving stuff, not quite my cup of tea
