Agreed. Not sure a player like him even makes it through an prem clubs academy these days. Probably the best Goodison debut from a midfielder I've ever witnessed.!! I remember being sat in the first couple of rows in the lower gwlad. I think he had just blocked a certain goal from Eto, had thrown a few oldschool challenges in and the crowd we're getting right behind the team. There was one of those heart in mouth moments with a spinning/bouncing loose ball over the right back and into our box, where as a fan you see the danger, feel like a rabbit in the headlights and your mind goes blank for second just waiting for the outcome. Barry just met the spinning ball on the bounce with his head, facing his own goal and headed it down to the nearest player and got the quick one two and we were out of danger. I remember thinking to myself, in the time it took for me to stand there heart in mouth, he had seen the danger, adjusted his feet/position, timed his run to meet the ball on the bounce, picked a pass(with his head) to the nearest teammate and had the awareness to run into the space to get return pass. All in a split second. Great player and a consummate professional.
I was on holiday, remember watching this in a bar in Fuertaventura. I was hungover but this game fixed that. So gutting that we never made the champs league spot that season.
Intensity, agression and passion will always win everton games at goodison - if we can recreate it under carlo with some quality additions we’re in for a treat
I was there as an Arsenal fan in the Everton end. I live in Liverpool and went with a family friend. When the 3rd goal went in I was sat there with my arms crossed looking down and a fan turned round and said “Your Arsenal aren’t ya” to which I replied “What gave that away” Really good Everton team then. Lukaku was like a brick wall, everything bounced off him!!!
Arteta was booed for his goal celebration a month earlier when Arsenal knocked Everton out of the cup. This was a great performance that ultimately meant nothing; Arsenal went on to win all of their remaining games whilst Everton lost 3 out of their last 6.
@@sukhdevr3489 No it was Belgium's fault before that. I recall Everton were pretty injury hit and had no choice. Dont forget it was Martinez that gets the credit for bringing him with him from Wigan, after they won the FA Cup.
@@silentwitness536 How does Belgium relate to all this? I know Martinez bought McCarthy but he ruined him too. If you're injured you don't play at all unless it's very minor.
People criticised osman all through his career, but would you have back now over the likes of Sigurdson, Davies , Schneiderlein etc ? ... I’d have him back in a heartbeat
Everton did have a knack for making triangles of nations in their formations during my time watching them in the late 00s and early 10s. We had an obsession with Belgians in the early 2010s, too. That makes me wonder what we would have accomplished had we somehow stole Eden Hazard from under the noses of Chelsea during this time, making some kind of unholy trinity of Mirallas, Lukaku and himself.
Steven Naismith - such an undervalued player. He never let us down - and he played with such unfettered joy...
Gareth Barry the most criminally underrated player we have ever had
JamieB Indeed, what a player

1:13:08 Seamus Coleman's Maradona moment.
Please do Everton 2 1 Chelsea 09/10. I'm a new fan so I never saw Cahill, Arteta and Saha in their prime. Chelsea also scored 100 goals that year.
19:45 1-0
39:53 2-0
1:11:03 3-0
I want to see the game which nasimith had
Three goals with chelsea
2020 now everton's future is 🌞 🌞 bright.
I wish they'd put a match on when Gazza played 90 minutes!

Pete G that palace game fucked us up
How good was McCarthy? We really should've helped him get fit rather than sell him.
He would've just got injured playing for Ireland again anyway
He became too injury prone
@@silentwitness536 True but that was Martinez's fault. That idiot played him injured vs Wolfsburg.

The following seasons it went so so wrong. But what a great season this was!

Come back Roberto, you have to finish some things you started
2-1 vs Man City 2011 pls
It's a shame that arsenal actually won all of their remaining games after this. They beat everyone home and away except for the top 6
I'm an arsenal fan and I agree we have always been shit
why put the score in the title? smh my head
I mean the game happened 6 years ago, its not much of a spoiler lad
