I was stationed at George from 1963-1965. Sad to see it now. It was thriving when I was there. Most of the buildings shown were built long after I left. It’s unrecognizable to me.
George AF was a big part of the Victorville community. It should have been better taken care of after its closure. It’s only been in the last ten years that it’s starting to have a real life. New buildings are going up, Amazon and DHL are getting ready to open warehouses on the north side of the base. Boeing and GE are expanding operations. I hope that it will create some much needed jobs. I’ll soon be posting on new video shows the new construction at the base. Thanks for your comment.
Thank you very much for your comment and for watching the video. I'm sure that you hold many memories from your time at George AFB. I could only imagine. I have talked to a few local High Desert Veterans about their experience working and living on base. Their stories are filled with fond memories.
Hey this was a very nice informative detailed view of this current base/used by SoCal Logistics Airport. I see they are using it as a boneyard parking airplanes there. I was there a few years ago taking Marines on a military charter for their active duty training. They were going to 29 Palms. The music in your video is great.
Locally, George AFB, Norton AFB, MCAS El Toro, MCAS Tustin …. All gone. So sad. I hate Congress for the BRAC program that shrunk our beloved strong military footprint all over this country. Huge mistake.

What a shame. I was stationed there in early sixties.
Ludicrously long runway they got up there.
