In this video I am going to explain how to arrange the traditional Vishu Kani.
Waking up to see the Vishu Kani would probably be one of the best childhood memories in the mind of keralites.
Vishu marks the traditional new year & also known as sowing festival
Here are the steps you need to follow to set up the Kani. There are minor changes from place to place, subject to the availability of resources and locally accepted tradition.
1. Clean the home and surroundings
2. Place the Krishna Vigraham to the Centre of the Kani area.
3. Decorating the lord Krishna using jasmine flower
4. Clean the lamp, pour oil and place five wicks.
5.Clean the brass vessel (Uruli) in which the Kani is arranged.
6. First fill the vessel with Raw rice or Paddy
7. place some cassia fistula( konnapoo )above this.
8. Next, place a golden cucumber (Kani vellari)
9.Next, place banana (kadali variety), jackfruit, mango, and some more vegetables and fruits according to the availability.
Jackfruit is said to be Lord Ganesh's favorite, mango is for Lord Subrahmanya and banana is offered for Lord Krishna
10.Place both the halves of a split coconut.
11. Place a Thiruyudayada & An ornamental mirror (valkannadi) is kept next.
Usually Aranmula valkannadi is used.
12.Place the vessel next to a statue of Lord Krishna, ensuring that no shadow falls on the idol
13. On a flat-bottomed plate or Uruli , keep a new cloth (kasavu mundu), gold, coins, silver
14.On a flat-bottomed plate or Uruli place sacred books or Grandakettu
15. Place vermilion (sindoor) and kohl (Kajal) beside the plate. And place Chandana thiri near. (Incense sticks)
16.In a pitcher (Kolambi) keep clean water
17. Next to the vessel, farmers often keep nine different seeds (navadhanya). They will be sown after the Vishu Kani. If not available arrange available seeds.
18.Also place betel leaf, and areca nut
19. If available place some karpooram & place a match box
20. Now, light the lamp along with an incense stick.
