Hey brad newbie here was wondering if you had the time to talk about mining solar, more in the aspect of electricity bills and the profitability from the solar, would love to hear from you soon brother thank you for the video
That’s the best mining video I have ever watched. Excellent.
Thanks!
How much did the total setup cost and how much are you making in profit per day?
Hey Brad, I'm really impressed! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I would like to build this system by my self - usung your nice tips. Is it possible to get in contact with you directly?
It's great for a small miner. An S21 will require 4.6kW of DC power. That's a lot of amps, but your idea is still solid. Just needs bigger parts. Should I design it?
You just need a big enough battery system and and big mppt solar changers. I think it could possible
lets get a update on this without batteries
Already done: ua-cam.com/video/iUViasDJ7F4/v-deo.html 😁
Hi Brad, very good video. I guess when it shutdowns just with a switch there are no issues. But not clear when it boots up, how it does auto mining...
imagine mining a block with literally the sun
That would be awesome 😎
Thank you.❤ there is also solar charge controllers with ATS switch which automatically turns on grid charging if needed. To ensure rig running 24/7
You're welcome!
Your tip about the used commercial panels alone makes you amazing
Thanks :)
I have a huge solar array already, I have been thinking of trying to mine crypto but never thought of using my solar to power it. cool stuff
Why wouldn’t you just parallel more of those batteries use those extra panels and run through the night instead of having to do all the turn on and turn off in the morning and night
I do have a larger setup that does just that. I just wanted to show people how easy, and inexpensive it is to get started. Also right now with how low profitability is, it's going to be hard for people to justify the cost of enough battery to run through the night. For example I have a system that runs through the night with three RTX a4000's it has 8kw of battery, that's the equivalent of 13 of those batteries in this video.
That GPU uses 300 watts minimum
What kind of DC DC converter are you using on your larger setup
The batteries are expensive.
Batteries are half the cost of the system if you want to do this. Take out the batteries, and your equipment cost is halved.
Thanks for the content Brad.
I am in the process of figuring all these out.
Your video gives a really good idea of the fundamentals on the setup, and I really thank you for this.
Currently at around 750-800watts, and my electric cost is crazy expensive (EU).
More please!!?? 🤷🏻♂️😅
wow man your a life saver! such a good idea. i have a 3.2kw solar system, your right the loss of power using ac power supply is terrible. ill have to get this MB and try this out
I have an older Power Boost MPPT 60A charge controller that didnt have Lithium or Lifepo battery option back then and a
100AH lifepo too which is not connected to the controller.
Can I still use this system somehow to power a mining rig ?
I have all these components (no mining rig yet) that are sitting being unused and would like to play around.
What is the cost of this equipment? How long will it take to earn back the money for investment equipment and electricity bills
I thought about doing this awhile ago but didn’t know mining mother boards didn’t use the 24 pin it must convert 12 volt to 5 volt 3.3 and 1.5 for the cpu in the board with a regulator I’m glad i found this video
Even then. Check out these. 24pin DC ATX PSU 12V DC Input DC 12V 150 watt
I Can go Battey less (Direct ARRAY -But is HV DC 800V & 1500V DC To AC 3 phase (480V AC)& 3x 240V 1 phases)
MPPT VFD - MPPT BPC (Soler water pump inverter drives OFF Grid Micro grids)
You can get 710w residential for about $180 (post-tax) as well new. Get 2-4. And ur steady for something decent. Im researching rn to start my first little dealio. Good luck to all. Dont sleep on this.
Brilliant analysis!! I'm researching & learning solar so I know mono-crystalline panels are best. Ever experimented with Cigs Amorphous panels for early morning late evening power that the mono and poly panels can't compete with? I realize we have 500 plus watt panels which are more efficient than Cigs but they are getting better again due to Texas Instruments and others. What I like is they perform in low light conditions where the crystalline panels are lacking. Would love to see a video on Cigs but don't go buy panels, maybe a company could loan you a panel or just review the market and tell us what you think.
I have a cigs panel, just never used it much. So they do better in low light? I need to play with that. Thanks!
Dude I have faith in you please make more videos on this topic
Nice idea. You can go up as high as 14,4V if stacking a few old car batteries toghether, and those are pretty cheap to get now that everyone has Li-Ion and they are interchangeable if the event of a unit dying out, which can happen a lot depending on the age of the battery - but that's ok considering the low cost. The only thing to consider here would be that when the batteries go low the pc should power down before they are completely drained because low voltage can stress components and the batteries itself, some auto-turnoff feature is required. Note: Battery port will act just as Load port once batteries are drained, this is because the battery loads up as much as possible and at the same time gives out the required amperage of the components, if the output threshold is higher than the input, sooner or later the batter port will only act as if the load port was connected, therefore you would have to actively monitor the voltage and cut off when under a certain level bacause if you don't you risk component failure.
I have been thinking of this but my house is already wired via a 24V inverter. Except if there is a way to set the DC load back to 12V or 13V while the input power is 24V. If not, maybe DC to DC Converter will do the Job. My Rig takes up to 650W mining Kaspa. Is there any 1000W DC to DC converter? My Solar Panel is 300W x 4.
Thanks Brad. This is a great help in getting me started with my next project.
You're welcome
Yes you say true. Convert DC to AC and back to the Rig again with DC current this way too lost of power. Thanks for your idea direct use of DC power is the best.
Thanks!
I've considered doing this for a while and have been hunting for such a video. Thanks for sharing this!
great video, love seeing solar use while cutting out the inverter. I've been curious about running hashboards in series on the raw 48VDC (ie 4 12VDC hashboards in series)
Did you ever try this method out? I have a similar plan with my 48VDC system and would love to pick your brain a bit.
I’m not a miner, I would like to get into this. I’m an electronics technician and this is exactly what I was thinking
Hey how much do all those parts cost, and what do I need? Can you summarize this?
the wifi isnt going to work well for mining...youll be overloading your wifi. mining needs ethernet cable
If you get the 80amp MPPT, how long can you mine?
You can get rich, or you can't. So I choose stability and earn only on Crypton cryptocurrency.
.. Web3 videos the best.. these setup depends on the wheather & upfront $$$
lol yall make so much pretend money you cant afford to run your own equipment LOL
Are you saying converting dc to ac to power mining machine will result to alot of loss
Cool setup that I've not seen before on youtube. Let us know if the higher voltage ends up killing anything
Will do. BTW I've run rigs with the higher voltage like this for months at a time, with no problems.
@@BradCagle Which lithium battery run at 24 hours?
@@Zeuswashington Depends on the power draw of your rig. For example lets say your rig uses 300w continuously. Lets say you have a 100ah 12.8v battery. 100ah x 12.8v = 1280wh. So we take 1280wh and divide it by your rig power of 300w, and we get 4.2 hours or runtime. So not enough, but if we triple the battery capacity to 300ah we get 12.6 hours of runtime. So depending on the season, and your locay that might get you through the night so the solar can take over in the morning.
Have you tried shielding your wires (passive) with Aluminum tape? It's inexpensive, and works wonderfully.
Not yet!
My setup burns 650 watts, that's comprises 3 cards plus about 30 watts for the rest of the system. I have plans to keep expanding, especially if I don't have to pay 100% of the power, and I want to run 24/7. I can supplement the overnight power needs with wind generators, but I will likely also need to switch to grid power from time to time. Got any recommendations on equipment for that?
Yes, I working on a simple grid fallback. So you run off solar when available, and fallback on the grid when not. The way I'm thinking might be super simple, and maybe no battery at all. Stay tuned.
@@BradCagle Ok, great. Thank you.
Give this man his flowers bag ideas right here free crypto
Do you have to turn mining on yourself everytime suns comes out?
I laugh and pity those idiots who buy 100w Renogy panels from Amazon for a hell of a lot more than a higher-spec commercial/residential panel...
Yeah, unfortunately a lot of people just don't know you can get way more panel for cheaper.
How long does it take to mine for 24 hours
Crazy never thought of it! Thx
I'm curious as to how you use 48 volts and convert it to 12 volts in your larger system? Are you using a buck converter and if so which one? Thank You
I want to know what a buck converter does turns DC to AC ? Lowers the volts? and make a consistent energy supply?
Do you have a detailed guild on this? I am more interested in running my farm with solar power.
amazing video.. i have rtx 3060 x 8 cards. use to mine eth last 2 yrs..now plan to use sollar for maximum pfofit.. ( from Borneo Island@Sarawak )..this video help me alot sir..tq🤩
my parameters are UVR=24.80V
UVP=24.00V
OVR=27.20V
OVP=28.00V
Do you think is there any conflict with the charging at 27.80v?
two 12v 200ah lifepo4 ?
You should use a Fly back Diode for the Relay, because it can Store much Energy and if you diaconnect it it gives a big voltage Spike, witch can destroy the load stage of the solar charge controller
Yes this is normally desired, however this relay has a built-in economizer circuit that greatly minimizes the holding current, and includes the flyback diode on that circuit.
At the end like how much money can one make
I have a 2070 super, what overclock settings are you running? Im looking at reddit for suggestions, but want to see what you did for such a low wattage pull.
how much to build me one if i get the equipment lol
Do you have electrical background? I see a lot of cables looks a little more advanced not for a biginners
I've always been an electrical tinkerer, even from a very young age. Yeah, I've pretty much realized this is not easy for everyone, and I'm actually trying to come up with some simpler plug-n-play solutions. Stay tuned!
yep. I just watched this and its super awersome. I have all the stuff for the most part to build. Just orded two of the relays. Lets get it.
renogy 2000w pure sine wave inverter Idle Consumption ? No Load Current Draw: < 2A .. , I find This Expectable for 2000 wt Conversion
The only thing I see wrong with solar and gpu’s is scaleability. Along with reliability of consistent power. Some northern states like Washington where it rains 200 days out of 365 that wouldn’t work! It’s cheap for the panels. It’s cheap for the gear. The batteries 🔋 is what kills ya! Even wind 🌬 is nice but the wind doesn’t blow all the time just like the sun doesn’t shine all the time. Yet you want to mine all the time. How’s that goin to work?!. Like I said you can get batteries to store extra energy. The problem with that is it cost more than the systems! The only way I can see that would work is micro hydro… How many have a stream flowing enough for that?!. Unless we can discover a batter way to get more out than what we put in. Money or energy one ☝️
Awesome video! I just bought 7 rigs of 8 gpu rx580 8g. how much solar amp charge controller and panel as well as battery I need to run all its GPUs day and night? It draws around 10kw. THANKS
What's the cost for this setup?
How much did you earn for day?
This is gold! Brilliant! But I wonder if 12 to 14V is safe for the mining rig since the output from the controller will be up and down
Interesting! Can you do a video on your large complex solar mining system? Inquiring minds want to know...
The mother board he is yousing is mining board 12v version it was intended to be mined whit bitmain power supply and 12v power supply soo the 12v board is berfect candidate for DC mining
heyyyy!! brad excellent video very instructional high five! inspired me to go for it!
I suggest trying it on minimal hardware at first. less painful if you make a mistake :) When I'm setting one of these up I start with one gtx1060, or some older card, and let it run for a week to make sure everything is working properly.
Thanks, Q. So how is this wired up?
So power from the mppt battery outlet runs to the relay and the load power runs/connects whereto the relay awell somehow?
I'll like it but I have no idea how they work ha ha, please help 😔.
turn up the memory to +1600 and set the core to 1000 fixed core. youll get better efficency should go upto 85mh at 90w, true ergonaut right here.

was working fine for awhile but getting error code fault prompt dc output short circut. Took whole rig apart several times and put together any ideas on solution?
My house blew up
hes right i found company that knocks down house to rebuild and i just asked him and he had huge lot full of them,so was getting 40 volt 300 watt panels for 40 dollars australianthe most costly thing is the higher voltage mttp charge controller that can do up to hundreds of volts but dont have to go that high 48 volt one be cpl hundred dollars
i even got a few 86 volt 150 to 180 watt for memory, they full commercial grade ,the cells are sandwhiched between two really thick 5mm sheets of glassand had really thick premolded cables comming out, wish id benn able to more of those the cell was printed on one whole sheet
Yup! BTW you can run them in parallel, and you wont have to have high voltage controller. You will however need to fuse, or use breakers on each parallel connection. Honestly I prefer to stay less than 100v to minimize arc faults.
how big amp battery i need to run 12hour night 1500w mining rig ? 200amp battery?
1400Ah so 7 of those 200Ah battery
@@BradCagle lol :)
Brad Great teaching videos
well, 12v battery is 12.8v and fully charge at 14.6v.
So what we need to mine with 8 3070 that use 120w each.
You are so right - this setup is the most efficient and easy - congratulations bro - now only SCALE UP
will the battery last doing this everyday? Like its going to run out during night and then charge back up.. after 1 year will the battery be alive :D
i am watching this video everyday,i enjoy it
Glad you enjoy it!
great video! i just wanna run 1 asic any s19 pro off solar and im happy
Thank you Brad Cagle you have sparked an idea with this method of Solar Crypto for me that i will for sure try, will share later once i know it 100% Golden.
Awesome! Would love to see your idea. Let me know when you're ready.
@@BradCagle went Digging and did the math to pair DC-DC Solar with Asic Miner (is possible with the high eff low power ones that cost alot)
Then Did the Math on DC-DC Solar with 24V Solar system with 40Amp 24V/12VStep Down Converter and paired with Right amount of battery capacity then 24hr Mining doable (witch i will be doing)
@@evilmario5649 Rad, I would love to see a video of it when you get it working. I did a video last year with a D3 running directly off 12v battery ua-cam.com/video/xa5ChO0iynA/v-deo.html
Great video! Can I ask what the main purpose of the relay is? Can this same setup be done without the relay if I am looking to run enough batteries and panels for an always on rig?
The load port on the MPPT controller can only handle 10 amps (I think 15 max) which would limit power to the mining rig at 10a x 13.8v = 138w . Using that particular relay wired in allows 500amps, which is overkill but gets you well passed that 138w limit.
So your telling me using this solar panels you don’t pay no energy bill or con Edison?
More videos like that how to mine with solar...nice chanell..keep on groovin. Where can we get those PCI cables?
i have more coming! pcie power cables here: amzn.to/3GzrA2c

@@BradCagle Thanks man , I appreciate it.
How many minutes does one Bitcoin take to make?
Could I make £2.5 million in two days mining 100 coins ?
There are many different crypto coins. Bitcoin is one of them, however it really must be mined with special ASIC machine like an s19. Even with these machines it would take many years to mine a single Bitcoin with a single machine. So instead you mine in a pool with others, and you receive fractions of a Bitcoin called sats. As for getting the coins in your wallet, all you do it tell the miner machine your wallet address. Now other "alt" coins like Flux, Dynex, etc.. are minable with GPUs like you see in my video. Some of these coins are pretty easy to mine several a day, but they are worth far less than Bitcoin, like less than a $1. For example I have 10 GPU's I mine with right now, and I only make $3-5 a day. That will likely go up as we get into the crypto bull market. At one point I was making $40-$50 a day with those same GPUs.
Can I run a simple 24 to 12 volt converter off Amazon and connect it to the load line... I want to run higher watts, even if it is only for 6 hours.... I commented a older video that showed your 48 to 12...
Yes, you can use the amazon 24 to 12v dcdc converters. However I personally would not trust my expensive GPUs with those. Reason being if they fail, your mining rig might get the full 24v. The best way to do it is to use galvanic isolated dc/dc converters, this means there is no direct link to the higher voltage, not even the ground. So look for this kind of converter. The ones I use in my other video you commented on are 48v to 12v 1/4 brick isolated DC/DC, they are modules used in telecom. This is the one www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/826-ADQ800-48S12B-4L Now these are modules, so you have to build a few supporting components around it (a few caps). You might google search "galvanic isolated dc/dc converters" and find something ready to go.
Brillant ...JUST BRILLANT
Thanks!
I like Vedioes.they are easy and straight forward.
Thanks, glad you enjoy them!
In my place, i counted for 1200W, for 24hours at 28800Wh. I will need 32 batteries 12V 110Ah.. to buy that many batteries its crazy expensive and not worth. Better buy the coins.
Yeah, batteries are a big expense. I have an Idea to that requires no batteries, and will fall back to the AC grid when the sun is not providing. Should be super simple, just need to find the time to do it.
Acxico 1Pcs DC 12V 250W 24Pin Pico ATX Switch DC to DC Power Supply Module for Mini Computer ITX etc. & Battery Protection Controller, Battery Charging Controller, 10V-60V 30A Under Voltage Control Module Over-discharge Protection Storage Battery Module, Battery Charging Controller this in case over power spike if converter box fails with an overload.
His real system probably on 48v 1000ah battery
Thanks for the video! One thing i don't understand, how is that relay allowing you to get more than 15A from that DC output? What kind of relay is that? More explanation from that part would be much appreciated 🙏 Thanks again
Ok i read the selling page of that relay, now is a bit more clear, sorry for the stupid question.
Hi Brad. Great video. Thanks for that. 😀
I'm very curious if you can share little bit about your own complicated setup?
I just wanted to get a picture how can we run many mining machines with this setup easiest way possible.
Because the way you show can be a good solution but to run many machines at same time can be an issue, so therefor I would like to know, how do you do it? Thanks 🙂
Is this setup maxed out with 1 graphiccard?
Love this video man, thank you! Question for you, if the load terminal on the charge controller can handle 500+ watts output, what do you need the relay for? Can you pull higher output that way?
The relay allows you to pull much higher power.
Hey dude I want run 800watt system how many batteries do I need for around 12 hours and what inverter do I need??
you dont need any inverter
aight, don't tell em too mucha man !!!! you tellin it all right off the batt !!!
it sounds risky af but with high quality controller it could be done on a bigger scale like a 6 card rig maybe
An 80amp version of this controller would do 6 cards. I actually have bigger scale solar rigs, they use 48v, and then I use telecom style 1/4 brick isolated dc/dc converters to get 12v. The only real worry about using a controller like in the video is it could short the high PV voltage to the output. Most controllers even high quality ones can do this. Ideally you want galvanic isolation, but I'm not aware of any controllers that have this. I actually had a controller (different one) short like that, the relay saved the load, but almost killed the battery.
@@BradCagle Hey Brad. First of all, thank you for sharing this method with us. Secound, do you think its possible to make a bigger system with same way for 6x RTX 3080 VGA also ?
@@laszlokarman7156 Yes I have a system that does 3 rtx A4000's 24hours. Are you trying to run in the daytime, or 24hour? 24hour will cost a lot in batteries.
@@BradCagle i would run them only day time. Could you suggest a configuration?
@@laszlokarman7156 Are you locking the power limit on the 3080's ? Maybe 200w each? Also I think you would want to split this up, and try it with 3 cards. The 80amp controller amzn.to/3foaSIA should work, with 100AH LiFePO4 battery, and probably 1500w of solar panels.
what mining site you use plz?
I think running the gpus directly on battery voltage is a bad idea you should add a dcdc coverter to get stable 12v because the battery voltage is changeing with state of charge of the battery
So @19:30 you'll see I have set the upper, and lower voltage. Lower set to 12.40v, and charge is set to 13.70v This is the max high, and low voltage the equipment will see. So as long as you're comfortable running a bit higher than spec. Up to you, I've done it a lot myself without issue YMMV.
I'm about to do another video that uses 48v, with a 48v to 12v Isolated DC/DC converter. This will be the safest, because an isolated DC/DC will not allow the higher 48v to reach your 12v equipment even if it shorts, etc.. Standard non-isolated DC/DC converters can easily short a MOSFET then deliver the higher side voltage to your lower voltage equipment.
I need to run 6 rx580's if I need 1000watts , how many batteries and how much amp charge controller would I need to run it for 24 hours.
It's going to cost way more than what it's worth to try and run 24/7 with battery. I'm going to make a video showing how to fall back to grid AC at night, and run on solar during the day. This will make better sense financially.
@@BradCagle ok thanks
How do I put the mined coins on my bitcoin wallet?
💀💀💀
Great video! Just one question... For controller is it max 40A on battery side and 15A on equipments (miners) side?
Yeah, that's why I used the big relay/contactor, so it will allow more current.
nice, no commision!
Great video man
