I've loved Gazpacho for a long time, glad to see you give them some exposure Pete.
Pete, I've really come to enjoy SoT UA-cam shows. This may be the first show I've seen where you reviewed an album which is music that is not something you listen to every day or even regularly. Even so, it was a distinct pleasure to hear your detailed review of the album and a discussion about the type of music and that it would be highly enjoyed by listeners "out there". I respect your ability to do so and not merely dismiss something not ordinarily in your areas of musical enjoyment. Your vast knowledge of the music that you do love and all the years you have been listening to music still gives you to insights into the type of music and what you find pleasurable about the music. And then even be able to discuss what it seems to miss for music you prefer. Well done!
Thanks John!!
Sapien is such an incredible and immersive song. Wow. Talk about feeling. ❤
Interview with Roine Stolt! \o/ Thanks Pete!
Looking forward also to the Simon Phillips interview =)
What about doing a ranking the studio albums of Ozric Tentacles (maybe your 10 favorite albums) ?
I'm not even sure I've heard 10 of their albums to be honest...though I love the ones I have.
Will pickup this band's material due to your recommendation and thank you again for emptying my pocket book with your great reviews! Have alot of material to buy.😎
I am enjoying the album but for me, the albums 'Demon' and 'March of Ghosts' are their finest moment so far.
Gazpacho is a “nap band” for me. When I really want to relax and don’t care if I happen to fall asleep I can put on Gazpacho. It’s pleasant but doesn’t go to any extremes. If I don’t fall asleep then it’s still a relaxing and interesting listen.
Not my thing.....
But super excited to hear About your interview With Simon Phillips.
Great drummer and a favorite of mine for decades.🎶✌️🥁
So great to see you branch out and include lesser known international bands. So much gold out there! As for Norwegian bands, I really recommend Kaizer's Orchestra and their quirky alternative rock: sometimes hard, sometimes, eastern european, sometimes poppy, often arty...and all in ultraheavy Norwegian "Jær-dialect". Try out albums Maestro and Violetta violetta volum 3 - the latter their last album in the monumental Violetta trilogy and perhaps their most "prog like" thingy :-)
Wow!! You just turned me on to this band!! I’ll check them out!! This band has a catchy name. Thank you. 🎼🎤🎸🎵🥁
I have kind of the same feeling about this band as Pete. I have gotten friends into these guys, but I'm not really into it myself. It's closer to indie rock than prog to me. Like Pete said, it's got a bit of a Radiohead feel to it. I'm just personally not into Radiohead.
Radiohead’s first two albums are indie rock. Since OK Computer they are definitely prog.
Hi Pete, what about the name of your channel? Sea of Tranquillity isn't a song from Gazpacho's Bravo album? Great work as usual, congratulations.
Since you seem to be a big fan of Norwegian rock from this year, you should take some time to listen to the new Arabs in Aspic album, Madness and Magic and the new Airbag album, A Day at the Beach. I believe they are under the same record label as Wobbler, Karisma Records
The Arabs in Aspic was reviewed here on the channel a few months ago.
Great album and great review from someone who gets that you don't have to be the target audience to respect something for what it does right. I don't think I heard the word boring a single time and thats usually what people throw around for atmospheric music that they don't have the patience or time for. I really liked the new La Maschera Di Cera album that dropped this year and I've never been a fan of italian prog or italian language music in general. You should check it out if you haven't.
I own all 10 studio albums prior to Fireworker plus a Live album. There are things that aren't always to my taste but overall a very good prog band.
Love this album. It hit me on the third listen. Top three for me. Alongside, Wobbler and Fish. I believe their name has something to do with the song by Marillion.
Gazpacho ? This is a soup dish from Spain.
I've never heard of this band even though I'm from Europe. I'll listen to their catalog
Gazpacho is delicious! The soup, I mean. :)
@@gwts1171 Yes absolutely . But my wife can't cook things like that. She only does steaks and burgers........😂😂😂
Another Norwegian classic!!!
What is it about Scandiprog?
How about a Review/ranking the albums on CITAY?
Dream Get Together is fabulous.
First impression - they have a talented singer, but I feel like I'm feeling the music a lot more than the vocals and wish it was all instrumental. If someone wants to point me toward tracks of theirs that are strictly instrumental, I'll check them out.
i will give it a go.
Good stuff. Hey Pete, you gonna video review the new Mr Bungle?
When something is not your thing, I think it's better to do not a review on an album. I think it's difficult to give an opinion on an album you don't have a click with.
I am a reviewer for more than 30 years and my approach is: when I don't like the style of an album I give it to a colleague .
By the way, Fireworker is an fantastic album in my humble opinion and I really like your channel !!!
See, I don't agree. I've been reviewing albums for over 20 years, and I think you can talk intelligently about a piece of music that might not be in your wheelhouse but still make the review appealing for those that it IS in their wheelhouse. As a journalist, I always felt it important to give that honest assessment back to the artist, because whether or not it will be my favorite album doesn't mean anything, it's the readers/viewers that the album might reach based on my words.
@@seaoftranquilityprog I partly agree on you. You point out an angle of approach which is probably the clue in our "dispute". I do reviews and interviews just for hobby and I do it in my free time. So I am not a journalist and I don't see myself as a journalist. I agree on you when you are a journalist and / or have to make your living out of this, then it's very important to be professional and objective. And then you must have the quality to review items which are "not your cup of tea" in a way that you see the quality of an album.
It has to do with the perspective on which the review is based, hobby against professional.
Thanks for your comment by the way, I appriciate that! And as I said: I like your channel and all of the content. I Think you are doing great!
@@adrian.banninksy Thanks! And there is a comment from another viewer above who completely got what I was trying to say in the review, which, hopefully means I'm doing something right! Check it out.
@@seaoftranquilityprog Checked! You're right! Point made. ;-)
Been following them for more than a decade. By now, the vocals start setting on my nerves. But still love the instrumental approach.
I listened to the record on UA-cam. It sounds like a mix of the early Genesis, Radiohead, Gregorian and Kajagoogoo. This band is not for me.
Not a bad album, but it's not for me.
Gazpacho...isn't that something you use as part of an appetizer? Lmao
It's a Spanish cold vegetable soup!
@@seaoftranquilityprog yeeess, lol, that's right. I couldn't think of it.
