In a parallel universe of 1995, the world is different from ours. Most of the 80's pop culture is still ongoing, and new music styles such as Synthpop, Outrun, Vaporwave and Synthwave are born. This is an alternate 1995. It is the future that never was... The future that will never be... A future that exists only in dreams caught on VHS!
Nothing wrong with 1995. Was the last good year. In 1996 I was forced by my employer to start using that damn mobile phone and e-mail. I still hate it until this day. I already hated Telex and the fax even more. They are machines from hell.

I think the reason we miss the 80s so much is that it was filled with so much promise for the future. I mean besides "flying cars", there was the sense that technology and humanity had no limits, and would bring endless fascination.
Now we're living in a future thats nothing like that. Almost everything, in one way or another, has fallen into ruin, and we're unable to change any of it, despite all the technology we have. In a lot of ways, we're actually worse off now than we were then. So we listen to synth wave, as it reminds us of that future we were once hoping for, and perhaps still are.

Yes and no. The flying cars stuff is more from the 50s and 60s, the mood in the 80s was not like that. Interest in technology was still pretty niche. If anything the 80s were about making money and having a good time.
Dude the problem with most tech in our time now is capitalism. The search for the next tech is profit driven, and not inovation driven. Tech giants who have the possibility to change the world mostly think how can we add to our product in the smallest way and make the most profit. The 80s were dudes in their garage passionate as fuck making cool shit because they loved it.

Voters gave 3 landslide victories to Republican presidents whose basic appeal was that they would lower taxes and let people get rich if they were successful. Yes people were passionate about creating new things but it was tied up with entrepreneurship & creating companies to make money, many of those tech giants of today were created in that environment.
If you're creating cool shit in your garage or whatever, and it's in some way useful to someone, then you can sell it and make money. If it isn't useful, you're just jerking off tbh.

This gave me weird 80s flashbacks... I had strange visions of Reaganomics and legwarmers and calculator watches....
You know where I am:
I'm sitting on a concrete balcony, at a hotel along the white beaches of Miami. I look out and can feel the soft breeze caress my face as I look down and see the crowds along the beach, the traffic backup of hundreds of cars, and above all the bright gleam of a sun stuck in perpetual summer. Just behind me is a box television, with a VCR connected: I hear static. An episode of Miami Vice plays - with all the crackle and fizz I could ever want.
I could speak of the nightlife, where the spires turn to neon, where the streets glow like plasma down a tube... But that's for some other time. For now, I'll just sip from my glass and marvel at all I've come to bear...
I find my self listening to this album repeatedly. This is simply just perfection in its own music genre.

The album has been removed from Spotify in all countries. Something really weird is going on, I noticed that initially a few tracks here and there disappeared, then EPs were removed, and eventually all the albums were taken down. Tried to reach out to George (the creator) but was ignored on all occasions. Very odd. At first I thought it was just a dispute with Future 80's or something but it seems like it could be something much worse? It seems like it was the collaborated tracks that disappeared first...
@@jackdowson9007 It's not just Spotify: All of his older (like pre-2019) stuff has been removed from his SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and official UA-cam channels, too. I'd wager that given his newest stuff, he really wants to move on from his "old synthwave days". Don't know if that justifies the removal of almost all his old discography, but still.
