- Welcome to Vintage Story Desert Life! This is a chill, come-as-you-are series dedicated to living and building in the serene austerity of the desert. This isn't intended to be a "challenge" or "extreme survival" series, though, and we won't be limited to spending all of our time in the desert. Join me as we turn this rolling, sandy expanse into a bastion of civilization, but make sure to dress appropriately and bring lots of sunscreen!
Want to play along? You'll need the world files and all of these mods (likely) in order for it to work. Download links below.

Game is on-screen starting from 4:20 (nice)
you can make a good ink from pomegranates. it's black-purple though.
Huh, I didn't expect that!
the fruitless hunt for quicksilver
Sadge. We'll try again next week! I want to go up a few levels in that same shaft and look again. We were about 3-4 blocks lower than I wanted to be, so we weren't looking as efficiently as I'd have liked.
As for your comment about poor mic quality in the first season, I really don’t think it was too terrible. And I think lots of people don’t really care or will look past it after the first few episodes, especially if your content is interesting and engaging (no problem there)
Hey, thank you for the input! :)
Also watched the second season and tried to go back to watch season 1. Oddly, it wasn't the microphone that bothered me, it was the regression in game systems. I kept looking up in the left corner to see what the weather/wind looked like, only to have very little to go on. It was jarring every time.
Ah, yeah I totally get that! I went back and watched some really old (1.9) era stuff at one point. It was interesting to see how far the game had come, and conversely, what things hadn't changed!
Yeah I agree, I’m not the type of person who worries about mic quality at all unless it’s super terrible. I watched both guide seasons one after another and even in the beginning of the first one I didn’t have much issues.
@@Bromon655 I suppose maybe it's a case of us all being our own worst critics! ;)
@@Kurazarrh indeed, I think most people are willing to put a lot of things aside given that the subject matter itself is of high quality.
@@Kurazarrh I think there's also some study out there that talks about how humans often hate the recorded sound of their own voices, because it doesn't sound like their actual voice to them. Since we hear what we say differently from others due to how ears work.
2:18:44 you're wrong actually, the enemy gate is down
Inquiring minds REALLY want to know: Are you going to pick up your scale model and move it down to the work site for easier referral?
Probably not! It's a VERY approximate model, so I'd kind of rather leave it here as a basic plan but not refer to it much, to avoid comments like "Hey, you're not building that the same way you built the model!" XD
why aren't you farming the woad with your fancy modded seeds?
Haha I forgot I can do that! Thanks for the reminder!
Apropos the Steel Plugs, I have a couple of questions: can you use fewer plugs if you want to just hack out a smaller amount of stone, and would it be cheaper to use more, cheaper hammers if durability is the issue?
You certainly can use fewer plugs for a smaller pallet of stone. As far as hammers go, and this goes for any tool, really, it's *usually* more efficient to use the best you have. Steel hammers have 2.5x the durability of iron, and a single steel hammer is worth like 6-7 bronze hammers! So while it's more "valuable," you have to consider the amount of time you'd have to spend getting enough material for multiple hammers in place of just using something stronger. Plus the fuel to smelt the extra ingots, etc. It adds up!
@@Kurazarrh I am convinced that someone, somewhere, has a spreadsheet that would make Lizzie Bennet swoon with jealousy 🤣
