God I love how Charlie constantly flips between the most and least sensible member It's like he has the most common sense but is also just certifiably insane
I think one of the reasons the dialogue is so good and natural sounding is because they always talk over each other. I call it the "Goonies effect" most dialogue is one person at a time in most shows in movies, when in reality conversations are much more unstructured and chaotic, especially in group conversations
The subtle jokes are some of my favourite parts of Sunny, like how Charlie snaps at Frank for spiking his beer by saying "Is that what all those little pieces of paper were,floating?!"...implying that he noticed them beforehand, but just kept drinking that shit anyway until he found out those were drugs. This is where Charlie's truly abhorrent eating habits start to shine. When you notice them on a second watch, they somehow heighten any scene even more!
It’s hard not to love any of the side characters in this show, they’re all great & I find it fascinating that they can pretty much bring in anyone and write the character in a way that’s always entertaining.
Hey guys! I'm Donovan McNabb, and I play quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. And I'm here to tell you that you can too, if you start every day with a hearty breakfast from McDonald's. Remember guys, real champs eat at McDonald's. I'm lovin' it!
If you listen closely, the coach never actually says Donovan McNabb, and neither does fake Donovan. The coach says "Donovan McMadd", and the fake Donovan says "I am Donovan McNair". Real champs eat at McDonalds. [looks to the side] I'm Lovin' it.
@@JamesVSCinema Even funnier, on the podcast they say that wasn’t an artistic choice; the actor just couldn’t pronounce it and the take they went with was one of his better attempts. Another fun fact, Charlie’s comments on the McPoyle’s as they left the camper were improv’d on the spot and he hadn’t even seen all of the actors beforehand. I think you can see/hear him on the brink of breaking a couple times.
The big black guy is Faizon Love. He was in Couples Retreat and Elf among other things. The guy acting like fake McNabb is the actor that plays Elvin on The Cosby Show.
“I love the recurring characters”, oh bud, just you wait! This show loves its recurring characters and they’ll dig deep to bring one-time characters back, especially in the later seasons. It’s always a treat.
The coach is easily my favorite 1-off character in the show. Everything he says is hilarious. "Put your parking break on" as he's parked on a flat surface and will get back in the car in 30 seconds lol
The synergy on this show just gets better and better, and not only between the main cast but the side characters as well. Everyone fits in when they need to, all the while having an entire production team behind them that are just as talented. Honestly this show really rewards the viewers who stick with it and as you said, get it. Some people wanna dive into the world of the Kardashians, others want It's Always Sunny. This is the duality of man.
Invincible, was a movie staring Mark Walburg. Based on the true story about when the Philadelphia Eagles football team opened tryouts to the public. One man, Vince Papale made the cut and became an Eagle for 3 seasons. Just giving context into the the episode and what they were referencing.
When I was in high school playing football I watched this episode and loved it. I died laughing when Dennis gets drilled in the head while running his rout lol. No shit the next day at practice a dude was running his rout and he got drilled the same damn way as Dennis. I fell to the ground laughing lol
Can still remember clear as day going over my weed dealers apartment in college and her boyfriend had the season2 dvd. We got ripped and this was the first episode I ever saw. Been hooked since
FYI, I have indeed eaten acid a few tailgating sessions outside Raymond James Stadium back when the Bucs won a Super Bowl with Jon Gruden as HC. Good times. You just have to go with the flow. The energy of the crowd will guide you.

I worked at a job outdoors for fifteen years and I used to come home and my wife would want to go for a walk. When you’re working all day on concrete with the sun beating down on you and slathering yourself in sunscreen and wearing a sun hat the last thing you’d want to do is go back out. At least I didn’t. I’m white as hell and have already had to have some melanomas removed. Now working indoors I enjoy going out on a nice day in an area with trees and shade. But just stand in the sun in a hot July day? Fuck that.
I remember when the Eagles actually held a promotional try out when the movie Invincible came out… ahhhh times 😂 (Go Birds)🦅. Also bittersweet to see the spectrum still up where the Wells Fargo center now is. So many Disney on ice memories lmao
It's a lot funnier if you familiarize yourself with the movie "Invincible". The whole episode will take on a new light. Especially Charlie's reference to New Kids on the Block.
As someone from PA shits hilarious. Someone asks where you’re from and what it’s like, ‘oh like the office/it’s always sunny in Philly’ The characters like the Boyle/Boil family or Dwight like characters are surprising hilarious. There’s smt wild about seeing a cross between the Amish and northern meth/heroin heads that gives the show some uncanny yet accurate depictions. They don’t really treat this show like a friends/Seinfeld type thing it’s just the bar or them going around the city sometimes showing their apartments but most of the time they’re all in the bar. Honestly Because of Pennsylvania the liquor lisence and selling of alcohol is extremely weird, especially stores vs private establishments, so seeing how it’s a main focus/business front is pretty funny. However Pennsylvania also has some of the highest addiction rates with gambling/drinking/smoking/drug use etc so seeing their spirals into wildness isn’t completely uncommon. (If you talk to people born in the 50s-80s they all practically started drinking at 9 yrs old, anyone born in the 90s-2000s starts drinking/smoking at around 13.) currently there’s also a ton of gang activity which mostly affects the highschool levels but also can mess with lower grades as some school districts have combined lower and upper schools. Public schools being some of the worst with school teacher taking strikes and weekly gun violence or threats plastic bags and K-9 units along with armed security and metal detectors. Still you manage to have 8-13 year olds bringing pistols and dropping them on the bus enough times that idk done doesn’t show up in the morning you kinda already know what happened. Kids joke about avoiding needles at recess and I can guarantee there were plenty in the parking lots and every street around the school I attended. So for all the wildness it feels strangely accurate. Chaotic but framed in the ‘everyone is a citizen who abides by the law and works a 9-5 happily’ And it might just be that all the character just act raw and conceited amidst craziness. falling both in line with human desire to act animalistic/instinctually (screaming usually) and/or if the characters desire something it’s with 110% gotta have it mindset only to hate the outcome and go back to square 1, or if the characters pretend to be civil and charming there’s the reality around them that’s so ridiculous and the challenge is to not react to the situation as instinctively but with many layers of ‘maybe this is a better maybe just smile through and ignore it and it’ll be fine’ before the inevitable outburst of yelling and going ‘Jesus Christ’ and f*ck it outcome’ - I think that just relates to service industry bs where you’ve always gotta pretend to be customer service vs you in the break room vs you at home. And how when your day to day/break room/work room/hangout all becomes just 1 space how it can cause you to go stir crazy. It’s like what if they all got cabin fever together while drinking like it’s the end of the world. And it happens everyday because you gotta get up and go to work. while they were also making this series there was a ton of mobile meth lab explosions (converted vans/trucks so you can take the lab on the go) which I think influenced how cricket ended up being portrayed. The show is fantastic and I could probably talk about it for hours and all the weird references they actually make to the state vs general things that were happening.
I can’t wait for you to get to the point where you see Dennis outbursts, Charlie’s are great but peak Sunny is Dennis absolutely melting down, it’s so good
@@LordVolkov truly never gets old and makes me laugh my ass off, a lot or maybe most of my favorite Sunny moments ever are Dennis losing it. Like the idiots savages scene or the finisher car scene or the suburbs episode or the tools scene. So many good Dennis outbursts
Artemis is a pretty cool side character. She knows how to steal a scene.
I like her unnecessarily, vivid recounting of events. She also loss alot of weight. Artemis Pebdani.
My name's Artemis. I have a bleached asshole.
She's a delight. The core recurring characters (McPoyles, Ponderosas, Artemis, Cricket) bring so much to the show.
Haha, Artemis is most certainly not cool. But she is an utterly hysterical and great side-character.

Such a classic. You better remmeber the McPoyle name from now on. Caught you slipping this time haha
McPoyle!!!
The McPoyle bloodline has been pure for a thousand years.
Especially given this McPoyle insanity is just getting started. Ever see Todd Brownings Freaks? Or Basket case 2?
I don’t know what “Flapjack” is, but I think you have it backwards - everyone in Flapjack is a McPoyle
The McPoyles advancing on the Gang like a pack of zombies is somehow both hilarious and genuinely unsettling and scary.

My favorite of those is when he eats the bad pear at the Italian market, "I eat stickers all the time!"
i know right?! How is he still alive? You eating paint again? Again? Like say what?
Crazy that you mentioned "zombies" about the McPoyles right there... Foreshadowing.
