I just bought one and had the same problem. I tried the R stereo output and it worked with no hum but when I took the jack out of the R and put it in the Lmono output the hum had disappeared. So far it hasn’t come back.
Yes the headphone jack is quiet but using the usb simultaneously will cause the hum to come alive, even with the headphone jack, at least for me. Using a TRS cable, direct box or a ground lift will not help. I have tested 2 units (11-22-2021) from Sweetwater the original and the replacement. I’d like to try a different power supply before I ship them both back for a refund. That being said the size is near perfect although it’s a bit slow loading maybe a lot.
If you use a standard jack 'Y' cable (splitter) out of the left and right outputs, it will get rid of the buzz but you have to pan the samples away from the centre... not ideal. I tried a DI Box and many other adaptors and no joy. I'm in Ireland so same as UK plug.

‐------‐--‐---- Hello, I don't know if you still have it, but I found the solution; a friend had the same noise problem and after many tests we came to the conclusion that it is the LED's of the Pad's that generate the noise. I am without light indication but that is not a problem for him. to disconnect the power of the LED's you have to remove the first pin (the one closest to the screen) of the connector of the cable that goes to the main board from the big pad's; To do this, carefully pull the plastic tab and pull the cable, then isolate it with a macaroon or insulating tape and that's it. Sounds like a grounding issue to me. You could try loping the power cord true a ferrite EMI-RFI filter clamp. These clamp are very cheap on ebay/amazon/Ali-express. Otherwise you might want to run the unit on a 9v battery and ditch the AC power adapter completely.
thanks for the informative video. just to understand if i use a phone out to connect it to a mixer/PA system i should be good to use it right? or is there any downside to using phone out instead of sterio out?
I am getting my hum thru all outputs. This is not good if it comes through the house or stage mix. I am going to try a DI box to see. Maybe a line conditioner would work. This should not happen at all. Surely the engineers at Alesis knew it was an issue? I won't be able to use mine if l can't get a clean output.
I'm getting mine on Monday so will report back. To be honest, if I have to use the Phones output, that really wouldn't bother me at all but keen to see if my one will buzz on the main outputs. I have read a passive stereo DI box with ground lift will sort the issue as it needs to convert it to a balanced input to the desk (so i have read, I'll do a thorough test on Monday) but for my needs, the phones output to the desk will suffice.
@@videotampa It wasn't quite what I wanted due to the unusual way I was using them live and that technique just didn't work out so I sold it. If you are using it as its designed to be used, it would be excellent. My only 2 negatives were the buzz out of the main output (but I used the headphone jack instead that didn't buzz to my PA so i didn't care) and the kits can take quite some time to load and a couple of times, I accidentally switched kits half way through a song which lead to 10 second silence. Again, probably more down to how I was playing them. The fact you can make your own sounds on an SD card really opens this thing up turning it into whatever you want it to be and not what Alesis want it to be. It's certainly impressive for normal use.
i think i will buy this anyway, and maybe get a discount! who knows, and yes, using the heaphones jack will be a must, escpecially when recording, greets Levi
If you used a “stereo” plug into a mono socket, that would create issues Try a mono out plug to the mono out jack as it’s intended for and see if that resolves the issue.
Hello everyone, I’ve recently acquired one and I have the same noise issue. I’ve tried I think that every possibility: Using ts cables, using trs cables, using another power supply (9v, 500mA, center-positive) and using a DI box either in stereo and phones. Nothing solves the issue in my case, did anyone solve this? And if yes, what solution did you apply? Many thanks!
@Luther Blissett Many thanks for answering! For the time being I’ve connected the pad to the mixer directly with an TRS cable from the Phones output to a mixer channel. The mixer is digital so it has a noise gate option which I used. In which way a DI would help me? (I know the basics of DI’s but I still don’t know how would it improve the sound) Many thanks in advance!
Ordered one and it does the same thing. I have a kat ktmp1 that I was hoping to swap out for the Alesis but can't because of the noise. I guess at the end of the day my Kat ktmp1 is smooth and quiet. I'm disappointed though.
try an amp that is made for electronic drums frequencys are different for elecronic drums , you have a PA speaker which yes you can run anything you want threw it but its not specific for electronic drum equipment
Man, that blows. I was really thinking about getting one. That will definitely drive me crazy. Seems unreasonable that it would make that noise. They should be able to handle fixing that problem
@@videotampa I used the adapter that came with my Blackstar Fly 3. Although it's a 6.5V product, I ran it in a test and it worked perfectly. I'm ordering a new 9V adapter and waiting for it to arrive. I will answer as soon as I test with the new adapter.
@@videotampa Hi my friend I am from Brazil and i have the same problem, i would like know if did you resolve the problem buy another power Adapter ? Thanks very much
The manual for this shows it using TRS. Using unbalanced cables for balanced connections is something to avoid. TRS cables aren’t that expensive, just pick one up.
Justin, I've been using electronic drums since 1989. I know how to set up an amp. lol None of my other 7 to 10 other electronicdrums/percussion units over the years have EVER done this. So how do you have yours set up? Post a video like mine where you use a 1/4 shielded instrument cable from the unit directly to a powered PA cabinet and let's hear it close up. I'm curious.. I mean It's possible there are batches that do not have this issue.
I receive my Alesis SamplePad 4 today, and same issue. But it worth watching your video, now I can use the phones output.

try using a other power adopter, same issue here with my roland spds, i have fix this changing my power adopter
