The Prince is A Woman?
It's a pants role. Woman playing a man.
Indeed it is also called Britches role, normally sung by Mezzo Soprano as Ms. D'Angelo, the Prince in this production. Some of the most famous roles in opera are pants role: Cherubino in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, and Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier by R. Strauss to name a few. The interesting fact in this opera is that Cinderella, Ms. Leonard is also a Mezzo, and both have this lush, caramel, chocolate sound.🙂
