I love Avril so much, always have. But she’s always had a tendency to be somewhat withdrawn and awkward in previous interviews. This is the most relaxed I’ve ever seen her in an interview and it really is a testament to Kelly, not only as a talk show host, but also to who she is as a person. This was really great to watch and I would give my first born for that Breakaway duet.
Love Kelly but it's not a testament to her. Avril has just grown up over 20 years. So have I and people change. Especially over two decades. She had an attitude when she was younger but so did I and a lot of people. I think they wanted her to be cute and sing Celine type ballads and she wasn't having it at all. It just wasn't her. Its not only good but its also inspiring. The song made me feel like moving even if im on a bad day, and im on my anxiety attacks. “I’ll spread my wings, and i’ll learn how to fly” this song taught me that bad days don’t last. That we’ll grow our wings eventually and we’ll be able to fly.

I love both Avril and Kelly’s versions of Breakaway! They were my two favorite singers in my early teens. I can also relate to both versions of the lyric “ Grew up in a small town, and when the snow/rain would fall down…” My hometown is snowy in winter and rainy in spring and fall 😅

I am proud to say I still own both of their first albums. A major memory of a spring break trip was my 3 friends and I playing my copy of Avril on repeat for a 7 hour drive, both ways. It was a therapeutic drive for us all. Kelly's first album was and still is my most loved burned cd. Both are QUEENS and I love that they are still relevant in a positive way even after almost 20 years in the industry!

Avril and Kelly need to sing Breakaway together. I have seen/heard people edit their two versions together, but I need to hear an official version in my lifetime. Yup. Some people are incredible at speaking on the fly and delivering almost a "sermon" that engages people - but they aren't writers. Their talent lies in a different place. Avril is always a little awkward, and I think since so many of her earlier interviews were taken out of context she's always incredibly guarded. And when she's writing she has weeks or months to get things phrased the way she wants them.
