Hi! I’m considering cyber security with no background. I just finished a coding bootcamp that I don’t think it’s for me. Do you think I should try studying for Comptia A+ before Security +?
If you are super new to the IT career field, it's going to be beneficial to know how operating systems work (windows/linux). If you already know those, I would just go for Sec+.... loads of money from that cert
Good luck!! 😁 From what i’ve heard, most of the material is the same but they added a new mobile security version, you could probs get away with using some 501 resources based on comptia’s official exam concepts list!
I have experience in IT industry as developer I would like to switch my career cyber security . which is best in these 2 CEH or comptia security+??and I have zero knowledge in security related subjects . Please suggest me Thanks in advance.
I used this book - basically front to back to study - Comptia Security+ All-in-One (Conklin and White): amzn.to/3760HAr For free resources, the best ones are the free practice exam questions, I did all of these for practice! www.examcompass.com/comptia/security-plus-certification/free-security-plus-practice-tests Good luck on your exam!! Keep me updated 😁
Hey Sandra, so I was kinda reading about the certification and I came across many sources saying the Comptia Network + is requirement for you to take the Comptia Security +, was this the case for you?
Hey! Nope the network+ is not a requirement for the security+ cert! Many people do recommend getting the network+ first because everything on the network+ is on the security+ so it’s a good way to ease into the material if you need to. However, if you can study through all the topics of the security+ (which is basically also all the material in network+), you should def do the security+ because you’ll only have to pay one exam fee and get it done with in one sitting. Some relevant cyber experience is also recommended but definitely not required to take the security+ too! I literally just signed up on the site, scheduled & took my exam and that was it! They dont ask for any prior certs or experience, good luck!! :)
Thanks for sharing your experience! I am currently doing Info Sec, but wondering if i should switch to data science related profession. Whats your take on data analytics/ data science career vs cybersecurity roles? Which one do you think have a better future?
They’d both make great careers, i did undergrad research with a professor on a big data project and i was interested in data science for the longest time but imo, data sci/ml roles require a lot more education, most of the roles i was applying for required at least a masters if not a phd, im sure there are some that take bachelors degrees but they’re mostly for data engineer or data analytics roles which could be considered relevant experience to eventually get into a data scientist position but i find that security is more about experience than formal education, i was an info tech major and got a security cert from my college program (not industry recognized) and it helped me land an entry level role in security (its a rotational program) and certs can really get your foot in the door and theyre a lot cheaper than a masters/phd program. They both have really good job prospects so it’s really which you prefer and how much formal college education you want! Most companies gonna need lots of data scientists and security folks :)
@@WithSandra Awesome! You made a great point about the education required for data sci field. I guess both field offer great opportunities in the future. What is your next step career wise? I am trying to find a better goal such as targeting security engineer or security consultant for my next role. My current work as analyst doesn’t feel as full-filling as I expected. So thats why I was wondering if I should make a switch to another field and try.
I understand exactly what you mean! As of now, i’m completing my rotation program in about 6 months and im still deciding if i should go back to software development or continuing in an info sec analyst role, i have an interest in both so would prefer a security role with the chance to write scripts. It’s good that you know your current role isnt what you want to do longterm, many companies are looking for internal hires nowadays anyway so you may be surprised if you have a chance to bring this up to your manager about your career goals if they can help you. Security engineers/consultants have really good job security and they basically do something different everyday so you’ll never get bored lol, good luck in finding your dream job 😁

Yes you can take it without work experience! It’s recommended but they don’t require you to have it, i know many college students graduating that’re taking the security + before they start fulltime!
Since this cert wasn't required by my current team, I don't get a pay raise sadly haha.. but I will definitely be including this in my EOY review as an accomplishment. But if you're looking for an average salary for Security+ cert holders it's about $59,000 (based on ZipRecruiter)

Please suggest me
Thanks in advance.
What's the best book to read for comptia security+? Any free resources? I am preparing for it now by just watching free videos on UA-cam.
I used this book - basically front to back to study - Comptia Security+ All-in-One (Conklin and White): amzn.to/3760HAr
For free resources, the best ones are the free practice exam questions, I did all of these for practice!

Good luck on your exam!! Keep me updated 😁
This... is the way.
Thanks for the support! :)

Thank you so much Sandra
Really appreciate!! 👌🏿❤️
@@WithSandra Sounds good, its great to have someone on the similar tech path. Thank you for your reply and keep up with the great contents!
can you take the exam any time?
Hi,
I am wondering where do you take the exam whats the website you used to take it? I am looking to take this exam in February. Also thank you for all of your tips too.
Comptia Website
I just passed mine right now (13 days!) I AM HEADFUCKD
Congrats!! 🤩🤩
I am too a c# developer trying to switch to cyber security. Completed my network + and Comptia+ and now studying security + by mike Meyers but its boring as hell
Good luck on the Sec+ Talha! It was a struggle studying but so worth it in the end lol, keep us updated with your progress!😁
I just passed my Security+ today, how many days do I have to wait to receive my certificate? pleaseeee
congratz Glavez!! I got mine about 1-2 weeks after in the mail, you have to go through their portal to provide your shipping address to receive the physical copy, but you can also download the virtual copy as well :)
Hello, I hope you get to see this, I’m trying to decide between the CCNA or security+ certification, any advice?
really depends what you gonna work as, Sec+ is a baseline for most IT security jobs
@@llljjjyyyy I’m trying to pursue a career in cyber security. I’m a fresher I don’t have a background in computer science. My undergraduate degree is in electrical electronics engineering
You probably learned more in the 2 classes you failed than 2 you passed.
I am a college going student and interested in compTIA security+ . Can I take the exam without any IT experience???
I mean is there any requirements before taking the exam
Yes you can take it without work experience! It’s recommended but they don’t require you to have it, i know many college students graduating that’re taking the security + before they start fulltime!
What is the pay rate after this cert? Weekly monthly etc? Nice video btw
Since this cert wasn't required by my current team, I don't get a pay raise sadly haha.. but I will definitely be including this in my EOY review as an accomplishment. But if you're looking for an average salary for Security+ cert holders it's about $59,000 (based on ZipRecruiter)
@@WithSandra Sounds pretty descent.. I was offered a grant to study CompTIA A+, network+, security+, Microsoft MCA sure administrator associate, Amazon aww cloud practitioner, Amazon solutions architect associate, & Cisco CCNA, all for a 24week course. But since I don't have experience in that area I'm not sure if that is for me and I'm not sure if I'll be able to nail a job after 6 months. But I'm curious because i do like the world of coding even though I don't have much experience in it either. What would be your suggestion?
Wait. Youre happy you passed that. Then got an IT job. And youre sitting on the floor in an apartment clearly?! And YOU are giving IT advice?!?!?! All the while with the flatest hair EVER with such a cute Thai face with no accent?!?!?!?!?!?! This deserves a youtibr vid unto itself....
Hey how long did it take you to get through your studying
Hey! I started studying late july/early aug but didn’t actually get serious about it until mid-september and took the exam in mid-november so i’d say 3-4 months is a good amount of time if you’re studying on top of work/school/etc
So many doors in a small room?😊😊
LOL 2 closet doors, door to an attached bathroom, and a door to the hallway 😂 you’re the first person to point that out haha
@@WithSandra Attention to details ma'am, is the first thing you learn in the military.😂😂
So you didnt pay for the course $2,500
👍🏾👍🏾
Is this sy0 601
I took sy0-501, the main difference from what i've seen is that sy0-601 has a mobile security section, but everything else should still be applicable!
Was the exam online?
Yes, it was online through PearsonVue!

Honest Question: I am in school for a BS in Cybersecurity, is it necessary to get A+ and Network+ before I go for Security+ ? Or wait until after college? I am so confused on how to tackle this dilemma. If I can go straight for Security+ I'll do that. Any recommendation would be great! Thank you
You can go straight to a security + that’s what I’m doing. Also I’d recommend joining Black Cybersecurity Association for a lot of free resources and study session every Saturday 🙂
@@LadyPhoenix93 Thank you so much! 😁
@@LadyPhoenix93 where can i find “Black cybersecurity association”?
@@jsmoove9947 LinkedIn there’s also several others Blacks in Cybersecurity is a good one but I’d start on LinkedIn.
