In this episode, Dr. Deven Tellis sheds light on the challenges educators face and how she turned her frustrations into opportunities. Join us as we explore her journey from educator to author and publishing entrepreneur, showcasing the power of resilience and passion in the face of adversity.
    Dr. Deven Tellis
A mom, wife, children’s book author, publisher, and veteran educator. She writes books that feature black and brown main characters, with the intent to narrow the diversity gap in the ‘kid lit’ space. All the books in her collection inspire, build character, promote positivity, and spark imagination in children. One of Dr. Tellis's goals is to create books that affirm and encourage young boys and girls to be the best version of themselves! She enjoys sharing about her books, her author journey, and the writing process via school visits, workshops, and speaking engagements. Dr Deven would like nothing more than to extend the reach of her books through partnerships, so that we can work towards changing the world, one book at a time!

I always said that I wish I was exposed to more while in school. The only professions I knew of was professions in the medical field, a profession in teaching, a lawyer, and if you wanted to pick up a trade. Having a career that encapsulated creativity was not a part of a career choice I felt like I had. And I can relate to the statement that was made about parents having a idea of the success that they want their child to have and so that does include getting a college education, but now that I am older, I know that you can be successful and creative without a degree. There are many people who have college education and is not successful. I’m not getting an education because he has education is needful. However, it would be wonderful to expose children to more creative careers and not limit them.
    This was a great episode!

I remember I wanted to pick up a trade while in high school. I wanted to go to the career center and learn how to be a nail tech and my guidance counselor told me that the career center was for people who were not going to college in my mind, I was thinking that I could learn how to be a nail tech and make money while in college, but my counselor thought it was a bad idea and so I was not able to go to the career center.
