It's awful how noisy that motor is even in low speeds at low power. I have the same issue and I hate the motor for this reason. With a little bit more load it actually becomes a bit quieter.
@@ShardCollector yeah, the noises don't instill confidence but the performance is still really good - still waiting for To7 to have something to say about the noises.
Thanks Onotsamada, The torque sensing is immediate now. So much so that some people with the DM01, the big brother of the DM02 motor, need/want brake sensors so the motor doesn't start while resting a foot at the traffic lights. I have not found this a problem but I only go through one traffic light. It also stops immediately when the pressure is off the pedals BUT there is still a bit of 'spin' that runs down and makes a rattling sound. This spin is good for changing gears under load, when I take the pressure off (stop) the pedalling to change, the spin guides the chain up a sprocket/down a gear and then the torque helps take up the load and lost momentum. Always better to be in the gear you'll need before hitting a 20% wall so you don't need to change under load but real life ain't perfect.
I've never had a shift sensor. And for the last couple of months have never 'wished' I had one as the torque sensing is now very good. Nor do I have brake sensors and want or need them even less. For the earlier firmware versions, pre Janurary 2024, I did have one of the brake levers rigged up like a 'dummy electronic clutch' to immediately cut power for gear changes and it worked ok but it never became 2nd nature to use it. As above, there have been two firmaware upgrades since this video and the torque sensing is constantly improving. Every upgrade seems great until the next one shows how much better it gets, and so I can't see additional sensors adding much advatage.
I've currently got a 15ah 48v battery but it is nigh dead. I think you can run 52v with the DM02 - There are options for changing the battery details in the standard T24 display and I think I have seen one person refer to using a 52v battery but I'm not sure if they have a DM01 or a DM02. I'll get back to you here. Please Note, the DM02 needs a totally different build/controller install for 60v batteries. As for a 10ah battery, it will depend on where, how far, what power level you use etc... But I'd expect you'd get about 40kms with some reasonable climbs included... And I can confirm people are running their DM02s with a 52v battery. Their caution, which I echo, is quality of power cell and the smaller the Ah, the greater the voltage lag effect. I'm waiting for some well made batteries to arrive and then I'll do a video about batteries and run the DM02 over my 'hardest' local blacktop roads for comparison
Now there's a thought, timed route, points deducted for every foot or hand touch outside of designated touch points, points lost for every second spent at a touch point
Pretty much factory settings. I change the basics to match my bike and local laws, like wheel size, battery voltage, top speed, etc.The rest I leave factory. The goal of the videos is to show people who are wondering what kit to buy, what the DM02 is like 'out of the box'. Not what it's like after spending 100s of hours of programming and $100s on different controllers etc. I'm pretty much 'Ian Average', average Australian income, some trade skill, mortgage, wife, kids, dog with an above average desire to see more people living healthier lives, desire for our roads to be safer for children and above average commute to get home. In these videos I want answer simple questions of performance and ride feel.
That's why I love about Torque sensors, Natural pedal feel,
Natural pedal feel, real-time responsiveness, reward for effort

Love your approach and philosophy Ian. How much do you have to spin the crank before the assist starts is it around a quarter turn?

Hi Ian. Can you change gear sensibly with dm02 without shift sensor

What size battery do you run? Do you think the dm02 could run a 52v 10ah battery?

Are you using factory settings or have you changed any parameters in the advanced menu?

@@Ianane2 If we all had 'Ian Averages' as neighbors, imagine how much better the world would be. Keep being yourself. Great videos.
@sbturtle5345 thanks for the thumbs up.
